  • Good show, never had a Santanay before, but based upon the non-stellar showing here today, I might not want to! :o)

Lot’s different ~ Rosenblum 06 Cuvee Syrah, Crandall Brooks 05 Napa Meritage, Snapdragon 07 Chardonnay, Coppola Alicante Bouschet, Opera Prima Tempranillo, Opera Prima Shiraz, Walden Cotes`du Rousillon Rouge, Gazela Vihno Verde – All very drinkable! Favorites? The Walden, Snapdragon, and the Meritage – Yummy!

QOD It was our 32nd anniversary today and we had lobster from the fish market and Allam Scott Sauvigon Blanc 2008 from Marlborough, New Zealand. It was very delicious!

05 Santenay Les Charmes, Vincent Girardin; luscious cherry with a new-world yet balanced approach, not too hard to locate…a good cherry Santenay to pop your Santenay cherry.

QOTD: Magic Hat variety pack, Bell’s Oberon, 2008 Pic St Loup Chateau de Lancyre (Languedoc Rose)

This week I drank an Imperial Stout from up your neck of the woods (being the US). A label we just got in to work, the Rogue’s XS RIS. Honestly not my cup-o-tea.
Considering the raps it had received I would say this was a very disappointing bevvy. Unbalanced and overtly bitter with an overwhelming Vegemite and yeasty extract character which was utterly unappealing. For the cash this is a beer that should rock my socks off, instead it just sent me to the fridge to grab a palate cleanser.
Rogue’s other beers have been over all fairly good to great, but this was a shocker.

I liked the look at Santenay Mr V. An overlooked little slice of Burgs that can produce some excellent drinking wines.
Cheers from the land down under.

GV – interesting show. I love Burgundy! I particularly like the stinky wines and stinky cheeses.

QOTD – I am weeks late in watching and commenting and I do not remember what I drank a few weeks back. But this weekend I drank some 90+ cellars wines, which are actually pretty good – Malbec, Cabernet, Shiraz/Viognier, Chardonnay, Sauv Blanc. (I didn’t drink bottles of all of those, I tasted them all).

You really need lessons in French pronounciation, haha, but what you know about wine would fill this galaxy, so I shouldn’t carp and quibble.

It’s FRANSWA (Francois) and VYAY (Vieilles). Call me. Anytime. Spell the French word, or even the Italian one, and I’ll tell you how to pronounce it.

QOTD: De Martino, 2006, Old Vines Carignan, Maule Valley Chile.
nose is menthol, milk chocolate, red fruit. Flavour is really fresh fruit acidity, then red fruit, high cocoa count style tannins, needs a few more years. 88-89

  • Enjoyed this NERD episode, travel down this road more frequently man. Santenay is not a region I shop without a somme but I smell a RN 74 visit in my future and Santenay may be the call!

qotd: Had a gamay-pinot noir blend out of Loire from the tiny v.d.q.s. appellation of Chateaumeillant. Not expensive which was good as I was not very impressed.

Keep those nerd episodes coming Gary
