line of the day – ‘if you get your whole nose in there you’ll get a much higher level of sniffy sniffness’

Thought the format worked pretty well and GV handled the tasters very nicely…but the wise-guy in the hat annoyed me (for several reasons; a/ butting in, b/ the smug smile and c/ the hat). Also the sound was non-existent when GV went around the table for opinions. Hope the rest of the week turns out better

Great show but if you ever have that asshat with the fez on again I’ll stop watching. Was he high or something?

i had to put a piece of paper in front of “asshat” (Sheckler, 2009) so i could watch the show. decent show, you’re good as always, but lacks the intimacy of standard shows. i would have felt better if you made fun of “asshat” (Sheckler, 2009).

    Gary,
I’m going to repeat some of the things other people have said here, in hopes that you read it, or whoever is reading the comments for you will get it to you.
    1) There were too many guests
    2) Whether you picked them or not, most of the guests added little, and the rest added less than nothing (i.e., distracting)
    3) If the other guests are going to contribute their observations, which is fine/fun/welcomed, then get a Mic on them so we can hear it.

With regard to your comments on the Ramos Vila Santa, and as noted by another here, I take issue with the fact that you’ve given it 3 different scores, the first being the highest in the initial email announcement (92), the second in EP #679 (90), and third in this episode (88+). Given your description here, the 88 seems the closest to reality. As we drink a lot of Portugal wines for their value, I recently tried the Ramos Vila Santa, noted some of the same things you said here, and scored it 87. I can appreciate that wine is a fickle beast owing to bottle variability and serving conditions, but if that is the case then you should at least mention it to the viewers.

Thank you for comparing the characteristics of the Vila Santa and the Alvaro Castro. It helped to clarify the differences, and your preferences.

Hi Gary, I totally agree with you PT wines offer you the best value for money you can get ? and I?m not saying it just ?cause I?m Portuguese 🙂 For such a small country we have a huge variety of wines, from the easy drinking ?new-world? alike to the more complex but elegant wines. If you want some tips just let me know. Cheers, Norberto.

I am not sure what the point of the random wine drinkers was, but the show itself was fairly interesting.

It was an awful to see you drinking ( the Portuguese “Vinho Verde” at room temperature. The Vinho Verde is a type of wine that is to be drunk at 10ºC or less. At the correct temperature, it becomes one fantastic experience.
