Cool episodes! At first, I thought I heard the theme song from “Waynes World”, but when the convo got started, I couldn’t turn it off.

QOTD – Estate Bottled only means something if the vintner/viticulturalist knows what they are doing. Someone could be a fantastic wine maker but suck as a viticulturalist. In that case, “estate” could be a negative. I do love, however, that rare wine maker/viticulturalist who knows what they are doing and knows how to coax exactly what they want to from the grapes to make the wine he/she wants to. That, to me, is true artisanal wine making – regardless of scale – and if I like that style, I am willing to pay the coin for those bottles. Supporting the little guys is sort of a passion. When we travel to wine country, which we frequently do, we always try to seek out some smaller producers who might be off the beaten path. We almost always find some incredible hidden gems that way.

QOTD: Estate Grown should lend cache, but only on the initial purchase if there’s no proof in the pudding, and satisfied repeat buyers will come to appreciate the terroir association that goes with it. An ‘Estate Growers Mark of Quality’ group would be an outstanding move to better validate the term, a la ‘organic’, although not mandated by the FDA, the BTFA?
