line of the day – ‘seemed a little conservative, then got a little freaky deaky’

GV was convinced that one of these wine was young, and one definitely a little older. They were both from 2004…proving that our leader is human after all.

I am far behind in my WLTV episodes because I just worked in retail for the first time ever during the christmas holiday season. We sold Wine and Spirits aplenty. The State of PA made lots of money in wine and spirits this year. I still shop in DE though (shhh).

QOTD: I’m tempted to try BRICCO ROCCHE CERETTO BRUNATE BAROLO 2003 Price: $34.99 because that’s a discounted price in PA. I have a 2002 G.D. Vajra Barolo in the cellar. Since it was a bad vintage, it was a risk buying the value barolo last year. Moore Brothers in DE has the 2004 Ettore Germano Barolo Cerretta at $60 but that’s not in my budget. I usually get the Rosso wines instead.

Barolo’s are something I want to get into more in 2010, I have been putting them aside because of the price point…they can get expensive. I want to find some good ones but dont want to break the bank, I have to do some research.

QOTD: I love Barolo wines! Excellent show. The 1997 Massolino Barolo Parafada that we had a couple of weeks ago with lamb shanks was spectacular – I gave it 93 points. Wonderful wine.

Great show.. I rarely get to have Barolo, but always love it when I do.

QOTD: my favourite was a 2004 Renato Ratti Barolo 'Marcenasco' – had a magnum of it in Prague.

I've never had a Barolo. I'm so lame! Well, I guess I'll have to give one a try.

have had a few an loved them, but cant remember the names because hard to pronnounce remember i ashamed to say. have 6 bottles each of 2004 and 2005 Pio Cesare in the cellar, but have yet to try them so have basically bought them on reputation.

QOTD: just had an inexpensive nebbiolo d'alba, a bit like a blend of new world and old world pinot noir. Tasted like real wine, was very impressed, as it was my first nebbiolo.

I've had a Pio Cesare Barolo 2005 at my boss's birthday party and it was amazing. just 3 guys and 2 bottles of barolo. i killed them as i went unaccompanied and nobody stopped me. previously we had finished around 5 bottles of prosecco cuvee di boj from Valdo. i've also been promised a 2005 Barolo Cerequio from Michele Chiarlo, i'll wait in see….

I think the best I’ve had so far was the 2003 Cascina Francia by Giacomo Conterno. Amazing stuff that traditionally goes well with truffles. Barolos have a huge deliciousness-factor to them. Love’ em.

Great show ‘espisode 786’! (but you have to pronounce Germano with “G” not “H” ;-).

For me the two outstanding Barolos opened in September 2010:
    — Silvio Grasso, Barolo Ciabot Manzoni 1995. Sublime balance, although hate to admit – felt La Morra fruit vs. my favorite minerals concentration ? former is pleasing. Aftertaste wins it all ? saga of emotions, continuous challenge of palette sensations.
    — Elio Altare, Barolo Arborina 1995. Tar, tobacco, rose petals, warm sage or other spices. Truly surprising apogee of properties for 2010. In fact, knowing the terroir and vintage, drink it 2011. If your wait for 3-5 years, be warned of the classic Barolo ?closing down? effect and then?you roll the dice 😉
