Loved this show, especially the way you described the last bottle. BUT, I have to disagree with you when you hate on Marquis Phillips. I know, I know, not the most complex bottle in the world, but I have enjoyed several bottles that they’ve produced. I WILL, however check out the Innocent Bystander. Best wishes for 2010! Cheers

There are wines out there that many people hate (over oaked California Cabs, big sweet barossa/mclaren vale shirazs) but the fact that they are still being made in mass quantities surely means many people like them alot. Otherwise, those wines would stop getting made if nobody bought them. Gary also mentioned previously that NZ sauv blancs have become a parody of themselves, but the consumption of those wines is probably as high as ever. There is surely a big disconnect between what many wine critics like and what is bought by consumers.

I believe that any wine that tastes fake can be made anywhere not just Australia, I recently drank a Pinot from France and it was one of the worst wines I have ever tried, see ( wine-lx.com. )I am a big fan of a well made Shiraz, and have thought that Marquis-Philips, Mollydooker and Ben Glaetzer have made some fabulous wines, the 2005 Marquis-Philips #9 is truly a awesome wine and The Boxer is a consistent wine that delivers each year. If a wine is over oaked don’t bash the entire country just that one wine you just tried.

Something that bugged me a bit is that you keep referring to ‘Victoria’ as a wine region. Victoria is a state that is home to 22 different wine regions and probably offers the most diversity of different styles of any wine producing states in Australia. Please don’t just say ‘Victoria’, but start looking at regions – you would never just talk about ‘Portugal’ and Victoria is a lot bigger than Portugal.

I have no idea! I hope he brings some wine, because I don't have much wine in the house at the moment. Something fun, maybe an Australian or New Zealand wine!
Other than that, good health for my friends, family and all of you out there in the vaynernation!

I find it tricky to buy wines from Australia. Sometimes the value is great and sometimes I get really disappointed. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that Australian wines are more unstable than wines from other countries. I don't know, probably just coincidence?

I feel the same way about Aussie wines. I really have never liked a single one, and I keep at it, keep trying. They all share a common taste – Mogen David with Isopropyl rubbing alcohol dumped in. I've also tried variously priced options – $50 or 5$, they have all tasted like amateurish one liners. But, one of my new years resolutions was to be less prejudiced against Australian wine, and less pro-French wines! So far, it hasn't worked. I had a Saint Joseph (you reviewed it in late January 2010 on episode…806 or so) that blew me away.
