Why were all the comments on the Buehler show deleted? Talk about poor…!! I’m even more annoyed since I bothered to type a rather lengthy comment only to have the system respond that comments are “Closed”. What the F???!

Ach… you had to make that error about the decade, didn't you? 2009 is NOT the last year of the decade! There is no year zero, because the cultures which founded our calendars did not have a a numerical system that included zero. It begins at 1!
Decades, centuries, millennia, whatever, started at 1, so just as year 1 to 10 formed the first CE decade, this decade also goes from 2001 to 2010. 2010 is the last year of the decade. Sorry, I had to go there.
And for the Bubbles question, no such luck on my part. I had a gimlet based on the classic, yet oft forgotten Plymouth gin.

Am really digging Champagne. We had a bottle of Henriot for New Years that I had previously tasted at a wine show. It was too cold at first, but was amazing once it warmed up. I'll never cool off my Champers too much ever again!

    Happy New Year

well worked but the restauraunt opend yellow tail *cough* garbage *cough* sparkling it isn't even traditional style!

    It's been a l o n g time since I last commented. Sorry!

QOTD: I think a Thierry Triolet Ville Vignes. I love it – it is really toasty, dense tiny bubbles turning to cream in the mouth. Delicious.

  • Pierre

    Happy new year everyone
thanks gary for the time and energy

  • rieslingrich

I drink German rieslings at most occasions, However an Austrian Sparkling was the BOMB !!

  • Chaz

QOTD: Henry of Pelham (Ontario), Cuvee Catherine Brut $29 cdn – amazing deal – punches at more than double its price point, and in some cases, more than triple.

  • ahillsey

Paul Dethune Brut and Barnaut Blanc de Noir.

Its an interesting episode. I would love for you to do more episodes on exotic regions. Even Champagnes or so called sparkling wines could give really interesting tasting notes and not the usual candy, pear, cider and grass etc. for example there is a cheap indian champagne known as Omar Khayyam which uses a blend of Chardonnay,Pinot Noir along with Ugni Blanc which is associated with brandy/cognac more then Wine.

    what a amazing show!!
i'm korean and i'm freshman in maritime university.
and i love wine so when driving ship and trip around world, i will collect wine which fit me
actually i just enjoy drinking but i'm sure that if i know more about wine, drinking wine will be more interesting. and your show will help .

  • great show gary, very interesting

  • richardvinifera

QOTD: I had F. Bonnet 1999 champagne, think it was falling apart, still got two bottles hopefully they're not a waste of money, damn!

  • GFish

GV – Hope you had a great new year. Once again, great to see sparklers on the Thundershow.

QOTD – I actually did celebrate the new years much. I did however have a nice Sauternes but no bubbly.

    GFish – Peace and Jets

Interesting review on the ’85 Clicquot Rose Reserve. I wonder why it wasn’t impressive. The vintage or the style at the time or something else?

I was also interested because I just met some of my wife’s Persian in-laws for the first time. They opened a ’85 Dom for the occasion that had been stored sitting upright on the mantle of their bar for, I would guess, 10 years. The bar, meanwhile, appeared to have been designed in the same year as the 85 vintage – an oversized, glass mosaic leopard was the main feature.

I was tasked with opening the Dom, and I got a wide stance and braced myself so that I was careful that the cork didn’t shoot out and hit the hanging glassware or, more importantly, the leopard mosaic. To my astonishment, the cork easily slipped out. The bottle was toast, completely oxidized. Of course my in-laws saw the two or three bubbles per glass that somehow survived, and insisted it was still good. After all, it is “the most expensive champagne in the world!” they said.

Quite an experience. Not such a great showing for the ’85s for either of us though. So it goes.
