line of the day – ‘It’s like smelling Batman…dark’

Great show, absolute classic. Mott back to his psychophantic best – after saying he smells a heavy dose of barnyard GV says it’s not there, try it again. Mott caves in – ‘it’s disappeared’

Great to see GV so pumped for a show, His enthusiasm is contagious. Capped all by the hilarious ‘hair on chest’ moment at 4.20

My Italian friend is the most old school Japanese dude I know. He's full blooded Italian and only in his late 20's but dude does Ia-do (samurai sword martial art), Judo, Flower arrangement, Japanese fan dance and tea ceremony.
That's old school like no other.

I know my comments are late, but it was fascinating to see your reactions to wines geared more for “European” palates. I only wish you commented more on the oak level in the Gilli, and also whether you've tasted aged versions of similar wines & what you think of the odds of it evolving (given that it's not a prestige Barolo/Barb). And for the Nidoleres, since it's a bit pricey for a Roussillon wine, I was hoping you'd compare it dollar-for-dollar to other Languedoc reds or even CDR's from 2007. Still, great show as always.
QOTD: My old mechanic was a cross between Archie Bunker & Clint Eastwood and looked & talked like a relic from the Elk's Club. He's so old-school that when he stroked out & was paralyzed, wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life he decided to off himself with pain meds & a plastic bag!

  • Never had a Freisa D'Asti. Is that the wine that people mistake for Tannat? Though it sounds much better than Tannat. Also, Vernaccia and Falanghina are “under the radar” whites from Italy.

QOTD: I would have to say my oldest brother. A big fan of Italian wines, bourban & cigars. He's very selective with his wines and they are usually the leather belt run throught the dirt kind of profile.

  • JayZee13

Nope, never had a Freisa. Both wines sounded great to me.

qtod: I would say my brother, even tho he's not but yeah outdoor guy steak, tho he does like his wine.

and of course my grandpa but thats old country, eat the turkey neck et c etc

Way late posting my comments. My Gilli has just arrived from LCBO so I’ve watched this episode again – awesome. I do love this wine (glad I bought two). thanks for helping to expand my pallet.

QOTD – have to say Daddy. He’s 88 WWII Royal Navy. Love him to pieces. There’s something about Dad’s – right Gary!

  • Marcell0cat

Im really big on the Black Pepper flavors too, Gary. Bring on some more of that!

  • Victoria Vignare

    Dear Gary,
My dad is one of your biggest lurkers. We get our fair share of winelibrary wine. Every time my best friend comes over for some wine he has us watch his favorite episode of late. Today it was this episode. Let me tell you, we consider ourselves ‘new school,’ but we both loved these wines. We feel like lumberjacks cutting the heads off moose and we are NOT going to waste this wine on our uncles. Although the Italian was our favorite – we want to thank you for another on point rating.
    Cheers,

    freisa: no

QOTD/Old world person: No grand parents left, so it would probably be my mom. Made almost every meal for years, now at 76 has just started going out sometimes.

    Hooray, two good wines!
