  • Nice Job! Good to see a decent Pinot for UNDER $40! Rare to find a good one for that price these days, and we’ve all but stopped drinking them.

Really good episode! I’m glad I picked it while I had some interweb time! Oh and I’m spreading the Gary Gospel here in France. Slowly but surely it’s working!

QOTD: I’ve been very lucky, so I can’t quite complain, but I would ask for no mayo. Eek- eggs and oil? That’s just a bad experiment!

    Good episode.
I really like the wines of ORE.
QOTD – I would have it this way – peace and understanding throughout the world!

    Boedecker Wines:

I ordered three bottles directly after the show and corresponded back and forth with Athena Pappas after the order. She was blown away by the great response your show had on sales and was so wonderful to deal with. She even wrote to tell me that while I ordered the wine on a Thursday or Friday, she wanted to make sure that it was all right to ship on Monday so that the wine would not sit in a hot warehouse over the weekend.

Great people to deal, and I’ll be ordering more. Thanks, Gary.

This is a late post but I just caught something Leif said when reviewing the episode a second time. He gave a shout out to August Cellars in Newberg, OR which is just down the road from Portland on Hwy 99W. They do have some great wines of their own plus several tenant wine makers (Barking Frog!) who utilize the facility. Unfortunately, they can’t ship to many states because of outdated laws (freethegrapes.com).

Their website tells a lot about the operation and if you can visit the winery, talk to Tom Schaad if he has time. It is a beautiful place, has a great story, and the whole concept of tenant wineries is really innovative.

QOTD: I like the challenge of weathering the uncontrollable ways of the world… BUT if I could have it my way I would prefer a USA that was as conscious of recycling, alternative fuels, and other “green” practices to get up to speed with other EU countries, and I wish less people neglected the gift of family.

–A wise man once told me that a smart way to live is to give 80% in every relationship, and the 20% you’ll get in return will be more valuable and willing than any 50-50 relationship could ever bring. Cheers, BIG G.

  • Hi Gary – How are you? Still playing some tennis? I played, if you can call it, that a few times too lately.
Rusty suede, whoa, that’s an unusual tasting note.
Your NY Jets are doing better than our Pats. Brady is the franchise: truth *and* cliche.
No to wet dog, girly or manly.
QOTD: I don’t answer Burger King inspired questions. Heh.

Gary, I’m slowly catching up on episodes. I really liked this episode. Great idea to have another sommelier on the show. It’s nice to get another perspective on the wine. Gave me a Siskel and Ebert vibe. I am going to seek out Oregon wines at the local Costco.

Which brings me to my next question, can you do a show on some of the Costco (Kirkland brand) in house labels. I have heard they are good, but haven’t tried them yet.

QoTD: They say you can have it good, fast, or cheap but you can pick only two. I say give me all three.

Great episode with a fun guest. I need to embrace my inner Oregon wine drinker more often. QOTD: As much as I am for a peaceful world and ending violence, Im going to sadly go with a more realistic answer: To be happy with the love of my life for the rest of it.

I liked the guest. I think it brings a lot of value to the show to have differing opinions from guests that are well educated in wine. The more I watch, the more I realize my pallet is so different than Gary's. Hey, I wonder if this guy wants to start his own show? Gary, you need some competition. 🙂
