Line of the day – ‘Grandpa Jack is gonna like this’

It’s almost turning into the Gary and Mott show at this stage (with Mott going back to his old ‘yes man’ routine), but a typically entertaining quarter of an hour

  • QOTD: Wasn’t feeling well, so no wine on Thanksgiving, but I did enjoy a bottle on Friday while making rock candy with my entire extended family (30); 2007 Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin, was quite yummy, and a good value.

A show on Madeira is needed, you haven’t done one yet.

Good episode, sorry I missed out on the secret pack, I have to stay more current with the episodes, but work has been a bear as of late. It is starting to be the busy respiratory season with kids.

QOTD – Had two (2) pretty good wines on Thanksgiving, a Malbec – 2007 Dona Paulo from Argentina, and a Zinfindel from Lodi, “Brazin”.

Hope yours was great, looking forward to more episodes and keeping up better.

MOTT!! My family is all about the pearl onions in cream sauce. Go Giants.

Great episode. I like to do the secret packs, because WL can’t ship to Washington State, and I can often ship the pack to my relative’s house. Plus it’s just fun. Couldn’t do it this time, though, since we went to the in-laws’ place. And they do not dig wine. Will definitely do it for Christmas, though, and hopefully even pick it up in store, as we’ll be flying into EWR.

QOTD: (See above comment about in-laws). Bogle Old Vine Zin, served at approximately 33 degrees. Because we were in North Dakota, and my wife told her mom to put the white wine in the garage (which is a substitute refrigerator in North Dakota in the winter) and keep the red in the kitchen. Mother-in-law saw Zinfandel on the label, and assumed it was pink. So in the garage it went.

QOTD: I had 3 pinots this year, one from California (especially good with the pumpkin pie) and with the next two evenings of leftovers, I had burgandies. I know that there are lots of other good turkey wines, but I just couldn’t get past the pinots. Pinots are particularly pleasing with popular plates.

GV – Hope you had a great holiday! Didn’t get the secret pack, sorry!

  • QOTD. 2009 Thomas Haag Schloss Lieser Riesling.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving GV and Mott!

QOTD – I had a Dr. K Frank Finger Lakes Riesling that was perfect as well as a giant bomb Prisoner red blend…

  • My Thanksgiving wines were a 1982 Chateau Margaux, 1985 Pichon Lalande and a 1985 Haut Brion. All unbelievable, I think it was my first time to taste an 82 first growth. Liked the Pichon the best out of all 3 but the caliber was excellent having all 3.

Hey Gary, our Canadian Thanksgiving was AGES ago, but I enjoyed a BC wine I’ve had at a few turkey dinners: Kettle Valley Winery’s Pinot Gris. It’s the most alluring amber color, as they allow the skins to sit on the juice for a bit to give it some color, so it’s a white wine that’s not quite white & always a hit! Gary would love to see more Canadian wines on your show! Do you sell any from Wine Library? 🙂
