Classic episode, great Jets banter (helped by a humungous win), and the longest sniffy sniff ever. Awesome.

  • I was thinking of your choices of cider but I’ll take your cheese recommendations as well!!!!! 😀

  • Yeah, plenty of errors in your descriptions as you probably know, wrong sequence of wines… all that for what was supposed to be an “education” episode. And that makes it two in a row for Sherry. I remember the other Sherry episode you did where most of the wines were actually from a different DO Montilla Moriles. You owe the crowd a good Sherry episode IMHO, but it will require some homework on your part.

Nico, it’s good to hear back from you. We last hooked up in the Thunder Cruise. I hope everything is good around Frakfurt and that you’re enjoying the upcoming German red wine scene. Contact me if there are any plans to visit the US.

    Cheers!

Glad to have you back and no need to apologize for taking a break. It is much deserved! I was excited to see an episode on sherries and Madeira as I’m a huge fan. There is such a wide range of styles though, it would have been helpful to actually go into it a bit more. Start with a bone dry, light fino or Manzanilla. They are great aperitifs especially with olives and almonds, then a fuller bodied oloroso followed by the Pedro Ximenez, which is made from dried grapes. I love it when you get nerdy!

Anyone having trouble downloading the three 2011 episodes on an iPod? I get a message that says the episode cannot be played on the iPod.

  • I’ve never tried; you could, the alcohol is high so it should be interesting to try…

@007 Unionville Riesling with Stilton Blue cheese. The cheese brings out amazing ripe pear flavors

Gary glad to have you back man. No worries on the vacation hope and it was a great one. Amen brother on the tragedy, May God Bless America the greatest country on earth. Nice show today I m going to have to try these wines being a coffee and wiskey drinker I think I might enjoy them.

GV – You’re just a good dude! Keep it real broseph!

QOTD: Sauternes and the big Bleu!

Thank you for reviewing the Madeira from the Rare Wine Co. George Washington was a great fan of Madeira, and too often you go into a wine store and ask for Madeira and they don’t know what you’re talking about, or try to get you to buy Port, which makes you think of Skid Row, right? So thank you for spotlighting this great historical wine.

QOTD: how could I ever choose? Roquefort with a sweet but not too sweet Coteaux du Layon is a particular favorite. I’m also very fond of Sancerre with crottin de Chavignol but that’s a classic. But seriously, no way to pick just one!

Think you’ve asked this one before, GV. I really love German Reislings with many different cheeses.

Wish you had linked the cheese below.

QOTD JC Cellars makes a really nice late harvest viognier and it goes well with a variety of cheeses, but I’d have to say my favorite would be a super funky bleu.

  • Loved this episode!!! The honesty all through the show is really great!
And the wines picked were …wow! Just a small comment : not all sherry is sweat, so take up a fino in the next sherry tasting, or only concentrate on finos, even better!!!

QOTD : I really like a Jurançon moeuilleux with cheese, although (I just saw someone else’s comment and admit he has a point) I can really appreciate a Riesling (one from Luxemburg for me, please…less known, but great value for money!) with the stronger (especially sheep or goat milk) cheeses. And for Belgian abbey cheeses, nothing better than the corresponding beer : Orval being my favourite there.

Had some teething issues with the comments section! My sis has just had a baby – yesterday! Crazy times – he’s awesome!
QOTD: Have to admit I know practically nothing about cheese but give me a dry white wine and a lighter style of cheese and I’m more than happy!

Excellent show – definitely keep doing more Sherry shows!

QOTD – probably one I tried recently: Barolo with Stilton.
