I would say that Fiano is even more of a “best kept secret” in Campania, than Greco. That being said, it’s in my top favorite regions in the world right now. Across the board, red and white, DOC(G) and IGT, I’ve never had anything less than great and the most expensive I’ve had is maybe $25. Eastern Sicily ranks up there too, but I’ve had some clunkers from there, and the whites from Campania are far superior.

  • QotD: Spent it at work serving wine to folks who don’t usually go out. A grueling day that I’m glad is over! I commiserated with fellow server folk over a bottle of Belle Vallee Willamette Pinot. http://www.bellevallee.com/index.cfm/product/3_1/2007-willamette-valley-pinot-noir.cfm

Great show, GV – clearly back on your game. No need to apologize, though. I enjoyed this show a lot and I am sad to say that I have never tried Greco Di Tufo so I need to change that. BTW, I’m not thinking Mark Sanchez cares that you think he is more handsome than Tom Brady. 😉

QOTD: Sadly, I am on a business trip in Europe so I ate dinner with a couple of male colleagues and we had a 2008 Los Altos Malbec from Argentina with our Thai food and it actually worked surprisingly well with that cuisine. I really wish I was home with my Sweetie, Jane.

  • Hell of a show.

QOTD: A 2008 Sineann Pinot Noir with my beautiful wife.

Great episode GV … good to see the wines showing so well. Good focus with some nerd thrown in for the kids (thanks for that). I have never had a Greco di Tufo, but I will seek one out. Thanks for the knowledge.

QOTD: worked from 6pm Sunday until 6pm Tuesday = no wine for me

Never even heard of Greco! Love the rare varietals… would love even more!

QOTD… Holsten Festbock (strong German brew) and a big bag of BBQ chips!

  • CKC from Virginia Tech!! Like the drop on mochi? Never heard of that and would like to try it. Definitely going to be looking for some Grecos now.

QOTD: Drank a Chocolate wine (Chocolate Shop, The chocolate lover’s wine) with my girlfriend. Was really good, we were both scared it would be way to sweet and were pleasently surprised by the balance.

  • CKC from Virginia Tech!! Great show really interested my in the Greco Di Tufo, I will seek them out.

QOTD: Drank a surprisingly well balanced chocolate wine called “Chocolate Shop the chocolate lover’s wine”. Promise it wasn’t too sweet!

  • thought my first one didn’t post…sorry

  • Very thankful you did a show on this varietal! I don’t know why but I haven’t made the plunge on this varietal at my local wine shops even though I have been eyeballing them for five years now. I think it is because the most anyone has ever been able to tell me about it is “it’s from Italy I think.” I am going to go buy one tomorrow now and open it up after work!

QOTD: Tormaresca Neprica 2008 with my wife and 1 year old son.

Question for Gary V. – You always say that you enjoy drinking your whites at room temperature because you get more flavors out of them than if they were ice cold. How do you serve white wine if you have guests over? Do you serve it ice cold because that’s what most people are used to or room temp? Or somewhere in between?

Hey Gary, I’m catching up on this week’s shows. This brought major thunder. I love golden, oily whites from the Rhone and Italy. QOTD: Although my wife and I were not together this year for Valentine’s Day, we usually enjoy champagne and York peppermint patties.

  • Big G, ya brought the thunder and I like it. Good show. I look forward to trying new Grecos, because the two I tried in the past did not excite me.

QOTD: Scotch in Vegas with a friend. We had just finished a 12 hour work day. Still need to make it up to the wife.

Hopefully better late than never….QOTD: NZ Sauvignon Blanc (Mudhouse) with my lovely wife. Anybody who thinks they can put up close to 1,000 episodes of content without putting out a dog once or twice isn’t right in the head.

I need to track down more Greco di Tufo – it’s not something you see much of around.

QOTD – Some premier cru 04 Champagne that wasn’t all that great.

Hurray! The “most passionate wine program” is back! Great old school show Gary! Educational and short.

I agree the Rhone white varietals are tremendously underappreciated. There is some good stuff starting to be made in the CA Central Coast area around Paso Robles from a few producers. A great alternative to weak CA sauv. blanc or viognier.
QOTD-VAl Day wine this year was L’Ecole 41 syrah from Washington on a cruise ship out on the Caribbean sea with my lovely wife.

  • QOTD: We -my friends Claudia, Anne, and myself- had Asti Spumante with a Pasta Primavera that Anne made, and Chocolates for dessert, it was a lovely evening.

    90/100

Lines of the day – ”Mott, who’s prettiest, Mila Kunis or Jessica Alba? (Motts answer) – ‘Who’s Mila Kunis?’ and ‘It’s a double 90, and in my book that’s better than a double rainbow.’

    High energy show
