    Hey Gary,

As a frequent customer, I just wanted you to know that I downloaded the
program needed to watch your videos. They are excellent and very
informative. The decanting episode was very good to see as we have been
more than unhappy and dumped many bottles over the years as they just were
awful. We will decant all reds in the future regardless of price!

You are an excellent marketer as I ended up buying over $400 worth of wines
after watching 4 clips including the Quinta, Pessagno and Caves De Columbe
Chassagne Montrachet. Can’t wait to taste the Quinta form Portugal!!

    Thanks!

    Hi Gary,

After episode 18, I would think that you would be decanting every red wine you taste. You made such a strong case for decanting and the differecnes it makes in the taste and nose, that I would think you would decant all wines before you give your tasting review to give the wine a chance to fully show all it’s character.

Thanks again for introducing us to all fo these great wines and winemakers!!

    Gary,
Let me start by saying I really like the video concept you’ve started, and have found them to be informative and entertaining.

However with this particular video and the recent tactic of embedding video links into your daily e-mails, I fear that the videos will begin to be used as a cheesy marketing tactic to sell specific wines. Up until now I think the videos have focused on generic, educational topics or have been unbiased (e.g. conflicting with top critic reviews), but it seems now you might be becoming a video pitchman. I hope this is not the case, or at least I hope you continue to do the educational / informative pieces.

Anyway, that’s just my two cents.. Love the store, love the site, and keep up the good work…

This is an excellent price on a very good wine. I have also tried the 1998 and 1999 vintages. I prefer this over the Torre Muga, which I think is a bit pruny and overrated. I also recently tried El Nido Clio 2002. It was fruity, but too wet and not much of a finish. I agree that it has a bit of a Bordeaux style to it.

KJ I agree, this was 100% an oversight, you will not see this happen often but because the video’s have nothing to do with the business side, it may. Basically because I don’t choose the items that go on e-mail everyday this happened!

    Dear Gary!!!

Thanks for the enlightenment! Decanting is truly not ever discussed (until now!). Great info! Your enthusiasm is terrific!

Just saw the first episode yesterday and had to watch them all back to back. Love the enthusiasm and the down to earth mentality you bring to wine! Keep up the great work and look forward to watching for a long time!

    Cheers,

    Gary,
Loved and enjoyed every episode you have done so far even though some of episodes weren’t new to me just enjoyed listing to what you had to say about wine or just decanting…keep up the good work , I’m sure someone else will pick up on this and start doing it too but for now great job….makes it simple…its convenient, watch it at anytime…and get some insight to wines I probably wouldn’t have tried…hope to see some Italians in the future and maybe some cult wines from Napa if possible.

Thank you for listening to your email requests. You touched upon one of my requests (and I’m sure many other similar emails), on your last episode. You dabbled in how to find the flavors of the wine. Information such as this is very helpful to people such as myself learning wine.

I am a HUGE fan of the 2002 Paul Hobbs Crossbarn Cabernet. I find its flavors and complexity far superior to anything in its price range. Wine Library had it a year or so ago at a very fair price. I am hoping you pick up the 2003 vintage. If so, and it’s comparable to the 02, try it, if you haven’t already. See if you think it’s WineLibrary TV worthy.

    Just a thought.

    See you guys on Monday.

Gary, I’m getting there on the smells! Beginning to pull out distinct elements in the aroma of wines. The overwhelming aroma in the blah 99 Dominus I had tonight: dust. You know when you’re getting into some unused area in the garage or attic and you find a spot of heavy dust that hasn’t been disturbed in a long time - that’s the smell of the Dominus. Needless to say, not the most attractive aroma for a wine.

Sometimes the flavors are obvious, at other times they do need some attentive tasting to be learned. I remember at one tasting I went to, an importer was describing the characteristics of a particular wine. I tasted what I always described simply as “floral notes”, but she categorized it as violets. Then wham! It was ingrained in my brain. All the permutations of violets from eating that purple gum as a kid, to walking passed that patch of flowers at the botanic gardens came rushing forward. It seemed so absurdly obvious after that, but my brain was not trained to make that connection yet. Sometimes it helps to pick up a jar of black currant preserves to help identify that specific flavor in wine. I do find myself buying a lot of Spanish wines these days. There are definitely a lot of value wines coming out of that country.

Hey Gary, NEED RATING for 2001 REMIREZ DE GANUZA for SS

Hope you had a great Holiday. I saw that this wine was on “free.Winelibrary.com”, clicked on the wine and saw that this wine was on a WLTV episode…one of the back episodes.

Anyway, I just watched it (and will be ordering some). This wine is RP-94 and ST-95….you seemed to agree, but didn’t actually state your rating…what would you rate this so I can enter it into SS.

If it helps, here’s you tasting notes:

COLOR-pitch black; NOSE-by far the most interesting Spanish nose, tobacco, cigar; TASTE-very complex, truffles, black currant, finish is very dry, but complex, blackberry, blueberry, nice long finish; this is GREAT wine, purity & complexity, reminds me of top notch Bordeaux from Right Bank, pure silk, AMAZING wine, worth at least $100; ST-95+, RP-94, GV-

P.S. I’m hoping that you’re copied into comments from these back episodes

I saw this wine at my local discount wine outlet for $104.00. As always the Wine library has extraordinary value and great wines.

I know nothing about Rioja….I had a 1995 one a while back and was really underwhelmed. It was light, without any of that earthy goodness. I have got to get out there. Any producers you recommend that are again widely available?

Favorite GV soundbite so far, “This wine smells exactly like a cigar, but obviously a cigar smells different.” Fun, fun. Thanks for the scratch and sniff lesson though. Seriously. I am all about tasting with my nose.
