  • John J.
    qotd: right now? 5.
Gary how about doing an episode on tasting the different charbono's out there? Or one on vin jaune's? Don't think I've seen you tackle those yet.
  • Ok, I'm back.

    13.

    Goodbye.
  • Let me go count...
  • Andrew H.
I currently have about 33 bottles. 5 which are sparkling and about 10 which are 2005 Bordeaux that I won't be touching for a while. Man I can't wait to try them! :)
  • I have a bunch of bottles!

I have one mixed case of aussie shiraz, a half bottle of champagne, some Languedoc, some Bordeaux, especially a little St. Estephe... oh... you mean bottles that actually still have wine in them?

One lonely bottle of 03 Lafon-Rochet, sitting next to a heroic but empty bottle of 98 Kirwan. So sad. So sad.
  • Dave Canada
I am coming to that Super tasting this year!
QOTD - I have about 200 bottles in my cellar.
  • killer episode! bringing out the big guns!

Hey, Gary i've been watching for a while now and going to start to post. You and your show are aswome and have really enspired me to learn as much and drink every type of wine i can get my hands on. Ok, By the way great for all you lucky people who have lots of wine right now but i only have 6 bottle's right know. For a show i cool idea would be 4 bottle's 2 from napa and, 2 from bordeaux of your favorite , vinyards or grape and tell us why you picked them and which you liked the best personaly and of corse score them....

Great show and thanks for seperating Clio from the Nido. What do you think of the astronomical prices of the 05 Bordeaux futures?

Qod....about 1200 give or take. Italian, Bordeaux and California Cabs...with a few Pinot, Shiraz and a few various Whites mixed in.

Should I start another building another case at WL???

I finally got to see this episode and I loved it! George Harrison's got his mind set on me and this song brings back so much; it was a hit that was played over and over on the radio when I worked my first post high school job (as a pictures' frame maker). And I didn't even know it was debuted on October 12, which is the day Columbus set sail on his way to discover America, and MY birthday too!

I'd drink to that, but (QOD) I currently have only eight bottles of wine (four of which are Bourgogne reds, an Italian Ripasso, three Israeli Bordeaux-style reds) and none of them is ready for drinking. I need to go get some wine...
  • JayZee
How many? At the moment, there are about 780 bottles in my cellar. My wife and I drink a bottle of wine with just about every meal we make/eat at home. So I figure that we must go through about 18-20 cases per year, so 780 is not really that much (I know, I'm rationalizing).

    Gary,

Loved the super tasting...agree with the comment on loving the Tempranillo table. You should taste the Alto Moncayo (100% grenache) for WLTV...

Right now, I have about 500 bottles in boxes, and about 100 bottles waiting to be picked up at the WL...

G- what wine shoudl I have tonight as the Bears put on a Monday Night Football extravaganza bonanza?
  • Justin D
    Hi Gary,
I really enjoyed the Super Tasting and will be there next year.

QOD I have about 100 bottles and is always growing.

    Thanks Justin
  • Miguelo DiMarco
I currently have 15 bottles of wine (all Italiano, of course!), plus one 1/2 bottle of Banfi Rosa Regale which, in my experience, is the preferred choice of women who are not big drinkers (a future Q.O.D.?).

And what about the Italian values? It's hard to confine the selection to one area of Italy, but every area makes some good inexpensive stuff, so I say 'all of Italy' is an area of good values, after all, the comparison was California which is larger than all of Italia.

The tasting looks like it was a blast. Unfortunately, I live on the West Coast which is at least good for saving a dollar on my Charles Shaw purchases!

Great episode! I may be adding a couple of the Casa Marin with my Rocky Creek Zin and all FREE SHIPPING! One good reason to root foe the Jets! Send that code quick!

No. of bottles . . . I have around 250 give or take a few.

  • Bill Ipp
    QOD - 2,250 bottles
  • good old ludwig van
Thanks for the peak into your cellar, Tony. It's always fun to see what other people are drinking. We have several of the same bottles. You should check out cellartracker.com as a place to keep your inventory. It is an amazing site, and really makes it easy to keep things organized, copy and paste in the WA, IWC and WS reviews, see other users' notes on a wine, etc.

QOD: 254 bottles of 152 different wines.
  • PeteB
    QOD: 125
  • Noah Rosenblum
    Gary,

For a excellent California wine, please try the Amizetta Merlot 1998 on WLTV.

As far as wines from either India, or China,,,, I'll try them when they make a better Mercedes Benz, Porsche, or LX470.

But I only have one life,,,, can't wait too long.

Unless I get too drunk on some good wines from: California, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Lebanon, New Zeland, Bosnia, ,,,, so on, and then if Alzheimer doesn't kick in, I'll try wines from India and China (NOT).

Order a Diet Water whenever you go out to eat with a serious face

    Cheers

Somewhere in the 950 bottle range. 1/2 Burgundy (evenly split between red and white). Fifteen cases of Bordeaux (some 2000, 2001, 2002s) with a handful of 98s thrown in. A lot of Rhones, some northern and a lot of Chateauneuf, (1998, 1999, 2001s) with a few other years thrown in (1989, 90, 93, 96). Some German rieslings, some Italian reds, a couple of cases of stickies. That is why I drive a $500 car with 230,000 miles on it. Totally worth the trade off. The way I see it, a $30,000 car will be worth $3,000 fifteen years from now (or less if it is English). Whereas I will be just settling in to enjoy the fruits of my patience on something that is now worth two or three times that. A no brainer. Besides, I know where I'll be if the big one hits...and it won't be in my car!
  • DennisA
    Jaye,
Nice collection especially the Germans. Big riesling fan, especially German. Hqve you tried the Carl Schmitt-Wagner -Longuicher Maximiner Herrenberg. Real nice and WL has it at a grat price but haven't tasted this vintage. The Dr Loosen/Chateau Ste Michelle - Eroica is real nice. Gets consistant high ratings as well.

    Hi Gary,

Look forward to the Chicago Super Tasting, remember to keep me in mind if you need help with anything!

We currently have about 70 bottles as storage is an issue. But we do have a very nice mix. Italian, Spanish, Chilean, SA, New Zealand, French, Oregon...even a few CA....I have a 57 bottle cooler but looking to buy a Vinotemp 400-450 bottle unit.

How about some more info about you? Are you married? Kids?

    Take care,

    Bruce

    Rich S,
I have family in the Finger Lakes area that I visit every year. We've been going on the wine tasting tour for 6 years now. Some of my favorite Finger Lakes wineries include:
    Dr. FrankKonstantin - excellent riesling
Heron Hill - very good dry riesling
Hermann J. Wiemer - all very good, $$ to taste
Miles Wine Cellars has an excellent view right on the lake, $ to taste but you keep the glass
Fox Run - excellent dry riesling & gewurztraminer, good food as well
Glenora - loved all of the wines and the views
Standing Stone Vineyards - outstanding vidal ice wine!!!!!! Other food goodies too!!
Lamoreaux Landing - delicious pinot noir & cab. franc
Wagner - interesting beer & free popcorn, always crowded
Atwater Estates - had an interesting riesling/gewurztraminer blend called rewurtz. Not bad.
Earle Estates Meadery - If you've never had meade, this is the place to try it. I think I had at least 6 or 8 very good ones.
Fulkerson's Winery - good wine, plus, you can buy the juice to make your own:-)
Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery - they make cranberry essence and frost wines that are delicious!
Frontenac Point Vineyard - the locals like this place.
Lakeshore Winery - this palce does a nice wine and food tasting with food.
Hope I helped! I may have missed some (since we never spit unless the wine is absolute swill) and we're half in the bag by 1 or 2 o'clock. Have fun exploring & discovering the region. It's beautiful this time of year! BTW I'll be up there this coming weekend.
QOD - 60 bottles crammed in a 52 bottle unit plus 6 or 7 (maybe 8) assorted cases floating around. Lots of 2000 & '01 Bordeauxes, Cote Du Rhones, Crozes Hermitage, Gigondas, Chat De P's, Burgundies, Cabs, Zins, Rieslings, Sav. Blancs, and Sancerres.

Personally I like my Chewbaca to soak overnight in brine, The remove the Chewy from the brine and pat dry. Then take honey mustard and cover Chewy completely- In a bowl combine brown sugar, onion powder, garlis powder, a pinch of cyan, paprika and chili powder. Now rub the dry ingrediants onto the Chewy the Musatrd helps it stick.

Take thick cut bacon and cover the Chewbaca in it. Place the Chewy in a smoker for 6 to 8 hours with pecan wood. Remove the Chewy and place in a roasting pan and add 2 cups of pure Apple juice and 1/2 cup of orange juice- Cover in tinfoil and place in a 200 degree oven for 6 hours.

Remove the Chewbaca wrap it in tinfoil, then in two towels and place in an empty cooler. After two hours remove the chewbaca and you can carve it or take two forks and shred the meat.

Place shredded Chewbaca on a roll with a little coleslaw.

I would match a nice 1999 Edgewood Malbec or Foppiano Petite Syra

Would Chewbaca be dry roasted or braised?
  • My 17 year old son wants to know what wine Hans Solo would drink with Chewy? All right, maybe that was my wife’s question……
  • Great episode. 95 points? Guess who is buying that wine?

Oh, as far as bottles go - 1 opened bottle and 19 unopened bottles currently.
  • Eugene
    Gary,
How about a little experiment on the show. Let’s make a kitchen blend. Say we blend Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon and frank right here in front of the camera. Would it taste like Bordeaux?

Or say you taste some Rosenblum and it stinks. Well, pull a bottle or two of something according to your taste and fix it right there!

Falesco Vitiano lacking fruit? Add some Spanish fruit bomb and here we go, it’s pretty good now!

    Finger Lakes Wineries:

    QOTD:

    Gary,

    This is very personal question.

I have more than I care to admit and less than I really want.

I made a conscious decision at some point not to collect anything.

I was very tempted to collect guitars, fire arms, knives, books, wine, espresso cups, digital cameras and their accessories, etc.
    Just say NO.

QOD...We have aprox. 860 bottles in our cellar. We were very lucky when we were building our house in 2000. The builder was a small local builder. He knew I was into wine and he offered to build a wine room for me.He told me to get the plans, whitch i did (free off the internet),and to get the measurments for framing out the cooling unit. The charge was $200 for the exterior insulated door and $200 for the extra electrical circuit for the cooling unit and recessed lights.Right now I have racking for 1000 btls but can add more racking to bring the capacity to about 1200-1400 btls. The main problem is according to my software I have to buy at least 20 casses per yr. to keep the number at 800 - 900 bottles.I guess I'll just have to hit lotto to get more...LOL.
Great show and as usual a wonderful tasting...keep up the good work...D
  • jon777
Have about 40 bottles currently. Apartment living isn't conducive to a larger collection -- have about 30 that fit in my wine fridge and about 10 or so "everyday" wines that live in the bar closet.

BTW, the clips from the Supertasting -- not that exciting. Just lots of people milling around -- didn't need the 3 minutes or so in my WLTV. Did enjoy the Italian Stalion intro, though...

Let's Go Mets! I think Beltran's HR just landed -- that ball was CRUSHED!

Jets squish the Fish on Sunday.
  • I was wondering the same thing...in CA in so much more laid back at things like that

Just wandered over and was checking out Wine Library TV for the first time. Watched a handful of episodes. Gary, have to say great idea put to excellent use and done with good style and attitude. Good for your customers and good for your store. I'm surprised there aren't lots of people doing this to personalize the otherwise very impersonal business of selling wine over the internet (or so many other things over the internet for that matter, particularly in the growing "YouTube" age).

Well to answer your question....around 7,500 bottles either in the cellar or on their way, across perhaps 2,000 different wines/labels/vintages, from $10 bottles made from varietals I've never heard of from central Italy that sounded interesting to tried and true 1st growth Bordeaux. Clearly curiousity and passion mixed with obsession. With so many great wines out there why buy fewer different wines by the case instead of a broader selection to learn and explore?
  • Had 350 until today when I got 2 cases one from Elyse and one from Turley so I guess 375 or so now. 200 are reds. 100 whites and the rest are champagnes, ports and other dessert wines. Great episode. Will have to get the Casin Marin if it is still available. Would have loved to go the the Super Tasting but just went to one at the end of September in Santa Fe. I still would love to get to your store but it is a 6 hour drive from here. One question, why were there so many coats and ties at the Super Tasting?
  • Kahuna
    Gary,
QOD- Just over 1500 with nothing costing over $150 and most between $20-$60. I also have 200 gallons of home made wine in Barrels. Most of the wines we have we have gotten on our trips to Sonomoa & Napa that are wines at the time did not get distributed to New Jersey.

On the wine opener front - Buy the Brand SCREWPULL it is the only brand to get, we have opened thousands of bottles with ours without fail- Family members have the knock offs like Rabbit and others and they always have problems.

Good lord Growing Pains? Kirk Cameron- Did they only have one TV station at Band Camp?
  • Billy G
Approximately 250 bottles, mostly red, about 30 white.
