Wines tasted in this episode:

Here it is finally, the gift pack tasting episode. Sit back put your feet up and enjoy this very special special episode, it’s a long one!

  • John J.
Thanks for doing the show Gary.
Love that you want requests too cuz I'd like to request a vin jaune episode and one on tasting some of those charbono's out there.
  • MtnCharlie
Great episode. I just wish I had gotten in on the 2001 Convento Cappuccini Barolo when it was available, but I did just get a bottle of the 2003 Chateau Sansonnet with free shipping! Thanks!
  • The Fanjestic
Good episode, but didn't really speak to me. This would have been much better if I saw it when it was brand new.
  • Mike U.
Gary, I was a first time viewer last night because of an article I read in Men'sHealth mag. Just wante to say great show. I don't know much about the vino, but I do know how to now learn.
    Mike.

Just watched my 1st episode (#147) and will definitely be watching from now on. Originally from NJ and am still a Jets fan. Have got to get a bucket!Learned of your show from the "LA Times".
  • JBelleJinx
I made it through the first wine tasted on your so called "competition". She might as well change her sweater and shoes right before the tasting begins ala Fred Rogers. Oy!! Competition?? Pahlease go and look up the definiton of the word as I fear you may be confused.

    Gary-
You entusiasm and genuine attitude ring through in all of your epidsodes. They are enjoyable yet informative to watch, leaving viewers yearning for more! Shazam!

Another great episode. If one thing I have gotten from wine tv is Garyv is most likely the same guy on WINETV as off a GOOD GUY. That said, watched an episode from the "competition" Winetastetv it is very funny if you remember the skits done on saturday night live the 2 girls doing a PBS radio call in show this woman is so sedate and then after tasting a wine she exclaims this is "very sexy oh can I say that oh my it smells sexy like a man who has just run a mile not 4 miles but a mile so sexy I truly think she had an oh I won't be crude it is hilarious it is pure comic relief not intentionaly though got to give it a watch for entertainment value. Keep up the good work Gary and company ruly appreciate it. MIKE P
  • The CNBC spot was great. Wow! How many million a year? Once upon a time I used to shop at a wine shop called "The Wine House" in Los Angeles. I thought it was pretty good while I lived there. When I moved to New Jersey I would long for my trips back to LA to get my favorites. Not anymore.
  • Slick Nick
    Yo Gary,

You've done some funny things, but the lunch box!!.. I'm still LOL ROTF PIMP!!!
  • OMG, I luv you. Wish I had this idea first!
  • Doug T
Another fine episode, too bad I wasn't more proactive and joined the tasting. Nonetheless, I appreciate the breadth of the experience that you presented. A token chardonnay, some great QPR reds and some quality but reasonable old worlders. Kudos !!!
  • Shotgun
Gary-- Congrats on the CNBC spot. That's great. You and your Dad and your business deserve the recognition. You are an absolutely adorable dork.

BTW, I am officially giving up on my stank-rank Carolina Panthers (6-4 a month ago and cruising their way to a wild-card, now scrambling for tee times in early January) and becoming a Jets fan.
  • Willis McGrapee
Nice pub on CNBC. Just make sure you and your dad give us the first crack at the IPO when you go public. Boooyah!!!!!!!!
  • Dana
Just looked at the CNBC clip again, I saw it live and was very proud to have watched winetv before you became a big shot! It's awesome to see someone make it big. The greatest part is your family just recently came to the US. This just shows why the U.S. must be more open to immigrants! If we would open our hearts and minds to the diversity of the world the U.S. would be an even greater place then it is today. Again, congratulations on getting the CNBC segment, I won't be surprised to see you on other shows in the future. How about a Wine TV show on the food network?!? How cool would that be?
  • I don't think Gary needs defending but I didn't really like the CNBC interview either but they are about sales and money and not terroir so be it. Gary has panned wines that he has described as his stores biggest sellers and praised wines that were sold out so he can sell, great, that is what he is supposed to do and he has trained himself to do. This video blog is still one of the most informative in the wine world today and thanks for every episode. By the way we here in Virginia Beach enjoyed tasting the six pack with you.
  • JayZee
To the skeptical not-quite-Vayniacs out there...

    Gary V says:

    "Drink what you like"
"Educate your palate - try different things"
"You can get a great wine at under $10 and a terrible wine at $100"
    "Wine is fun!"

Does this sound like someone who is only trying to sell wine? If you watched the CNBC piece, do you think someone with that kind of success NEEDS to do WLTV to sell something? Have you ever looked at Chris Stan's Spreadsheet and noticed how many wines that were beiong sold at Wine Library that Gary trashed? C'mon! And beyond that, I cannot even tell you how many times I have e-mailed Gary with a question and he has answered me personally or how many times he has given me personal advice on wines based on my likes and dislikes. Hail VAYNERCHUK!
  • AlisonD
The CNBC interview was great..it was nice to see you with your Dad!
  • Rebecca
Wow! Today I read the comments before I even watched the episode. There's a lot going on out here..

Gary, you've been on trial today huh? Well, I guess you are used to it - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Not for nothing, just more people jumping on the WLTV band wagon. So, with that said, Welcome Smiling Pelican. Trust us all, once you start viewing the episodes that SSChris directed you too, and all the others, you'll see what Gary's all about. Amoung all the others, check out the Thanksgiving episode (#128). That episode, to me, was the most genuine Gary V. - definately not a "sales pitch" Or, episode #133 - His quote for the day on the dry erase board says "Family". I promise, you'll be hooked and you'll be a Vaniac convert.

QOD for Friday (today) should be totally non-wine related: "How many Jets trinkets/things/schwag do you think I (meaning you) own?"
  • Jaye
FYI - Gary answered my above question via e-mail. Wines were open 2 hours before tasting.
  • Jaye
Just a quick question -- I don't remember hearing this specified in the video -- how long were the wines open before tasting?
  • Claudio
Duh - what I meant is that it is 34.99 a bottle in Chicago at Sams Wine!
  • Claudio
Another reason that I shop Wine Library - the Sansonnet is 34.99 per bottle. It's cheaper to buy and ship from WL.

Gary and a shout out to Mick Zack in the store - thanks for the excellent service!

    Claudio
  • MaryS
I believe Gary is a very honest and sincere guy. He truly enjoys what he is doing and cares about his customers more than making a buck. I know he has taught me a lot :)
  • Jaye
FYI - as of today, this "6-pak tasting" episode still has not downloaded to I-Tunes. I really wanted to get this episode on I-Tunes because I will be doing this tasting "off-line". It sure would be nice to know what happened. I have never had problems before. Also, when I go to I-Tunes store, the most recent episode there is the one from 12/13.

    That’s pretty F-ing funny!!
Joyce, there’s a thread on the “Forum” about this. I suggested that Gary have her on as a guest. What a delicious juxtaposition….don’t you think?…”The Odd Couple” of wine.

Could be a hilarious episode---kind of like the guys from Orange County Choppers meets the stuck up, aristocratic Mother Superior from religion school!.....that boring wine blogger would certainly cramp Gary's style!
  • SS Chris
    To any DOUBTERS of Gary,

I posted a response (comment #89) to HAPPY PELICAN. In it, I provided a roadmap of which back episodes to watch (3 episodes), where Gary talks most directly about his philosopy for WLTV. I believe that this philosophy comes through on almost all episodes, but on these 3 videos, he talk directly about it. This is specifically for all NEWER Viewers.
  • Herm... The Kosta Browne is a truly unbelievable wine. I have had my share and have never been dissapointed. The problem is that it is so hard to get. I'm paying around $40 on the list and have seen it as high as $200 a bottle. I would not recommend paying $200 for a bottle of wine that will not age like a $200 Bordeaux....but if you can find some in the $50 - $60 I would go for it.

I enjoyed the show....also heard you speak of Kosta Brown Pinot Noir...I would like to hear more about this wine...I couldn't get the CNBC to download...
  • What a joke....do I have to go into it some more? Pelican was not right. HAsn't Gary adressed the "two-hats" issue before? Geeese...pathetic
  • rich loughrey
The pelican was right on about the CNBC slant but all publicity is good after all. Your father came across as a real nice guy. Today's episode was excellant.
  • wey
Btw winetastetv sucks... a big PAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ;)

I had the Adara on thanksgiving and thought it was great and didnt encounter too much fake fruit flavor. Whats wrong wtith "extremely appealing and satisfying"? Should we drink something that will cater to our masochistic side instead? If you are looking for something subdued and tricky, this is not your wine. Rather, I think it is a great wine to drink on its own: its got 13.5 alcohol and has no heat.
We experience habituation to sensory input. You cant say that a first sip of wine will taste exactly like the last. Usually, the flavor mellows since this is a normal reaction to stimuli. Then youve got fatty foods etc that coat your taste buds and changing oxygen levels/wind patterns that all have great effect on the nose. So the flavor your start off with, will inevitably dull. This wine seemed to maintain a consistent "interesting" taste which I was sold on...i wouldnt hesitate in giving this a 90 in my book. Maybe someone (Gary?) can recommend a similar blend that would rival this.

I'm up to episode 65 in my retrospective. Having lots of fun. How about a couple of episodes doing verticals - Old World vs. New World. Explain what to look for and expect from aging. Got to get in on the t-shirt contest. I NEED to go tasting with the vaynic himself. Hell... if I don't win can I pay to go with you too?

RE: CNBC....was I the only one that was taken with the fact that Pop's started that place in some 400 sq ft place to what it is now? Kudos to the growth of your Biz
  • Deano
HOLLA BACK YOUNGIN WHOOOOO WHOOOOO lol. Thats great Gary I cant believe that is your ring tone haha. I really enjoyed todays episode next six pack I will purchase in advance so I can taste along too. No QOTD however but its all good. My official VAYNIAC shirt is on the way so I am ready to sport that like a champ.

Ok, I tried again to watch winetastetv.com, forced myself to watch the whole webblog. It’s kind of like forcing yourself into a cold pool––it’s painful, but builds an appreciation for the hot tub that awaits you at the end of the torture—winelibrary.com……aaaahhhh……so much better for the soul.

Quite a serious post by a someone with a jovial name (smiling pelican) Ask yourself this: Do YOU think Gary can sell anything? OF COURSE he can. Then why wouldn't he answer accordingly. At the end of every show he says "with a LITTLE bit of me we're changing the wine world." There's your answer. And let's not wax poetic about wine . . . wine is a special thing???? It's alcoholic grape juice that's fun to drink. I love it, you love it, but it isn't world peace. And when CNBC does a feature for a segment called "ON THE MONEY" ummmm, there has to be a sales angle. Don't forget Gary and his family built the best wine store for what they do, that's exciting. If you play or played team sports with any level of seriousness you understand what building something means.

So crack open a bottle and errrbody chill.

I thought it was 248 days to the ~HEAT~ episode.
