It’s tough. My husband doesn’t love the stuff, so it’s hard to sneak it in. However, I’m always expecting great things from rose and they never seem to deliver. Good example is the first wine tasted…had that a few times, gross. Also, I find the roses have these watery, flabby, flat, sad finishes. It’s like, can you give me some more? Please?! Going to seek out the last rose. Here’s hoping!

Hmmm, I’d almost be tempted to try a rose. I guess I still have some crappy pre-conceived notion that prevents me from actually taking that first step and buying a bottle.

I noticed the Guigal Cotes du Rhone in the store today, and picked it up. I’m just starting to think about developing my palate, and so I *had* to know if that ‘deadly-chemical’ thing GV mentions would come through for me.

In a word, yeah. Yeah, it did. But I’m learning something, and that makes it kinda worth it! Not really, but kinda.

I love the Jose Reyes (Mets) reference but you really should have sung it.

QOD: I’m scared it will be sweet. And if it is, I don’t want my girlfriend liking it then being stuck drinking sweet wines. I don’t have much of sweet tooth to begin with in fact sweets quickly make me feel ill. I know I know that’s strange but I was that kid who’s Halloween candy lasted almost untouched till the next year. I’ll probably pickup the Copain but Gary you’re really tapping me here and I’m also scared about one other thing. That other thing is that I won’t be able to pay my bills if I keep spending money at Wine Library at this rate. I need a frequent buyers card for you… some rewards points or something

I tend to like Roses, but prefer a good white as it seems to have more on the nose and palate than a rose. I will continue to seek out some good roses that can stand up to a nice white.

QOTD — A couple of things — (1) Absolutely the fear that everyone around you thinks you are drinking white zin, and (2) I usually can’t get the aromas or flavors out of the pink stuff like I can with whites…

Not a big fan of Roses in general, but Jason from the Olney Beer and Wine recommended a sparkling Rose to go with ham for a family dinner and it was a huge hit. I wish I could remember what it was.

QOTD: Well, as I just mentioned, I’m not TOO scared of the pink stuff. But, usually it just reminds me of White Zinfandel. If I wanted Kool-Aid, I’d drink Kool-Aid.

Not at all scared on Pinks. Tavel Rose was one of my first tastes of non-Concord Kosher wines. That said I have had lots of bad pinks and am always looking for new ones. I have tried Roses made from almost every red grape. Many don’t cut it. The last one you reviewed sounds like a keeper so I will have to try a three-or 9-pack. At 12 bones not a bad deal at all and great with evening barbecues (well all but the brisket) what was that accent? New Joisey?

QOTD: Nothing at all. I opened a served a 2006 Sophia Rose from Francis Ford Coppola over the weekend and it was a big hit. Purchase for $11.99 here in Central NJ and really liked it. FFC does many wines very well.

Gary, I’m sure a BILLION people have already told you by now, but “printemps” is French for “spring” while “ete” is “summer”. Still, nice episode. Too bad only one was worth getting.

QOTD: The 850 bottles of red in my cellar are holding me back a little, but I do have some Tavel in the cellar as well and it is really nice with BBQ on a warm spring/summer day.

I’m trying to “think pink”. Enjoyed a few at tastings even have a couple on the rack. I just don’t seem to reach for them when serving. Maybe we need more warm weather in Chi-town.

Expanding our horizions, great show. Bought a case of 2003 Alderbrook Rose last year. Excellent wine syrah based. We gave some away for Xmas presents, received compliments by all. Have a few left, enjoyed them and will more Rose’s this summer.

Love the show. I just hosted a Rose tasting with some friends this weekend. We tried a Coppola Sofia, a Snoqualmie Cirque de Rose, an A to Z Rose from Oregon, St Michelle’s Nellie’s Garden, a Pares Balta and a St Lauren’s Syrah Rose. Being from Washington State you can see my Northwest bias. I tried to get a bunch of die hard Cab drinkers to admit that Rose’s were a nice drink on a nice day on the deck. They didn’t buy it! In fact, with eight of us drinking and six bottles only the St Laurent got finished. In aggregat scoring the A to Z came out on top. Given its good score in the Spectator it wasn’t a surpising outcome. I thought the St Laurent had the best complexity. Anyway, thanks for the great shows and the great inspiration. I recently tried a half bottle of Swiss Château D’Auvernier Oeil de Perdrix Neuchâtel 2005, free-run 100% Pinot Noir. Magnificent, and made me interested in going pink, though I wonder if I will be disappointed unless I get excellent guidance, or lucky again.

I sort of like the rosee’s, like Fiddlehead’s Pink Fiddle free run pinot, OK, but probably better soaked to fullness, but then of course, it would be different if it hadn’t have been bled.

I can’t believe you came out to LA to party, and didn’t even ping me. I’m grieving today (here in sunny Santa Monica).

Definitely not afraid of the pink. Ask my wife. But as for rose, I’ve been meaning to try it. I actually own a 2005 Domaines Ott rose and a 2005 Etude Pinor Noir rose, but I haven’t had occasion yet to bring either one out of the fridge. Looking forward to it soon though.
