qotd wow powerdered toast man was a great answer. im goin with Batman. the old stuff was cool, but was too cartoony and kiddie. the darker, edgier Batman that's been more contempory is the one i prefer.
Gary, how about puttin one of those wines bottled in a 620ml clavelin on the show? (a vin jaune)
  • Phredd
QOTD: The Bat-Man. That's right, the old-school version from when the comics were first released, when he was a shadowy underworld character and the commissioner still wondered whether or not the Bat-Man was even a good guy. So not "Batman". I like "The Bat-Man".
  • Adrian
wow again great show with more info on another varietal...Tocai Friulano..tried to check for more info on the wiki but it was not listed......maybe wltv should update it....
  • nnothing
    powdered toast man
  • Dessert Wine Nerd
QOTD: Wolverine. No dobut about it. I always wanted to be him when I was younger. Healing powers, the claws, etc. Couldnt stand Batman, Spiderman, and Superman though. Worst heros ever. And now for something completely different.... the wine! I am def. in a rut. Im stashing away dessert wines like theres no tomorrow..... Which makes no sense because if there was no tomorrow I should drink them, no? Nice spill job on the Russiz, by the way. I think I'll try to find one of these wines over the weekend and pop it. Hope you got some serious shuteye after this marathon.
  • in the comic books, spiderman
    in the movies, batman
although the punisher came out with a very underrated film in my opinion
i'm talking about the one with tom jane, that's the only one i've seen
the original punisher, which some amazon reviewers said was even better, starred the big russian from the rocky movie
there is also a new punisher film coming out soon that has a new guy
  • Dan B
Spiderman , Batman depending on my mood
  • steve
    Gary,
have you ever tasted Dario Raccaro's tocai friulano? One of the top 5 tocai out of Friuli Collio.....
    best
    Steve
  • Tried this for the first time a few weeks back playing bocce with some friends. Absolutely fantastic. I may have a new favorite Italian white!
  • I've never had Tocai Friulano. I'm looking forward to it, though... it's on my list.

QOTD: Before last week, I'd say Batman. He's got no special powers. It's just him. And he's a bit dark, too. Sometimes he crosses that line to do the right thing.

But, last week, I read the Watchmen. *Awesome* My new favorite "superhero" is Rorschach. That's one bad dude. Of course, he's a bit crazy at the end, but I like his uncompromising principles.

I am among the 95% - I will definitely have to try a Tacai F! QOTD: Well, my favorite superhero always was Spider-Man. However, perhaps more interesting was my number 2 fave, the Green Lantern: "In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight, let those who worship Evil's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's Light" ;-)
  • Mr. Ambassador
I really liked your descriptions of the last "Tokai F" sampled today; should I decide to try one of these whites that's the one I'll go for!

QOTD - Don't know why but I always liked the Green Arrow and Green Lantern.
  • QOTD: I really tried to enjoy comics but could never get that into them (too many NES games to play!) The one that I always latched on to had to be Wolverine though... perhaps it is that we have so much in common: a loner, quick temper, and extremely hairy.
  • greg owens
GV- thanks for the intro to a new wine. QOTD: mighty mouse?
  • Winodontist
Gary, I;ve been drinking a lot more whites lately and these will definitely be on my radar.

QOTD: Wonderwoman. Bikini pants, invisible plane, face it, she's hot!
  • Matt the Lurker
    What about Lacrima Christi?
  • JonC
Thanks to the US Air Force, I lived in Friuli for 2 years. Tocai F. was the universal house white wine, very inexpensive & very easy to drink. There are many other wonderful grapes & wines from this region, many hard to find in the U.S. I'm looking forward to future shows featuring these unique wines. Does Maxwell Smart count as a superhero?
  • QOTD: Not exactly a superhero, but I love Tintin.
  • mcj
    QOTD: Arthur from The Tick
  • tim
    Cliff Clavin, what a genius
  • Ralph Rocco
Batman for sure. But, I don't think Wayne had a wine cellar in that castle. Too bad with all that dough$$.
  • Billman
I dig the push to increase trying new types & styles of wine, and an entire WLTV episode dedicated to the new varietal makes the task much less daunting.

QOTD: Batman, because he's mortal (does that disqualify him from being a superhero?)
  • Adrian
Batman without a doubt, though not really a "superhero" per se.
  • MikeBro
    QOTD:Spaceman
  • Dude Man
QOTD: BATMAN!!! His list of women include Katie Holmes, Nicole Kidman, Kim Basinger and Elle Macpherson. No other superhero has come close. BATMAN!!!
  • Jorgevan007
    Hey Gary!
Good episode! Can you make one on good cotes du rhone wines under $20??
You mention you are a fan of the Rhone all the time. tell us about your favorite rhone valued priced wines.
    Thanks,

QOTD: my fave superhero has to be the Spleen from Mystery Men.
  • No favorite superhero. When I was a kid, I didn't read those sorts of comics. Instead, I read Archie.

Look at it this way. Superman and Batman fight crime, save humanity and all that kind of thing. Archie kisses both Betty and Veronica.

Honestly what sounds most appealing? I can tell you, all that super stuff, not being the athletic type, I will never try. Archie's moves, on the other hand...
  • David Toney
    Super Hero Guy

my own pencil-drawn time-killer in high school.

and i had a tocai f in vegas last week:
    delicious
  • Nightcrawler! One of the most complex superhero's out there. I tend not to go for the big boys, Batman, Spiderman, Superman (gag!), Wolverine, because they are like...N*SYNC, they have their armies of cheerleaders. I go for more under the surface guys (Ringside, The Kills, Muse if we are going to stick to the music metaphor) like the blue demon which probably would remainin obscurity if it had not been for X2. Great episode!
  • Nathan L
DUDE...Batman of course. How could it be anyone but the dark knight? All you Superman and Mighty Mouse fans are nuts (and you Spiddy fans just like bad movies)
  • Karl Laczko
QOTD (OK a day late, but I was working) - The Webslinger himself, Spiders are cool!

Another grape I've not tried - I'm falling behind here.
  • newguy
    QOTD: Nacho Libre
  • ecola
    QOTD: Mighty Mouse!!
  • clouder
QOTD: Freakazoid! Can't beleive no one else said it before me. Who the hell else 'flies' around town making their own swishing noise. nuff said
  • Never have had any collection of Italian Whites other than Gavis and Soaves. Will have to try the Fuiilis. Funny and nostaglic reading everyone's ideas of superheros. Just to keep it timely, when I was a kid my dad was my superhero. This time of the year I think of him and miss him. Bet your dad was a hero to lots of you. Always liked my heros with some reality, Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Clint Eastwood.
  • Superman, for all the reasons Tarantino outlined at the end of Kill Bill Volume 2.

Gary, thanks for another new wine and the beaujolais.

    QOTD:Popeye
  • Neil
QOTD: When I was a kid, by far, it was Spiderman. This was before the recent movies and all the recent hubub(I haven't seen any of them).

I also liked Underdog and Bullwinkle.
  • QOTD: spider-man
