I only discovered Gewurztraminer quite recently, at a French wine course. It’s been one of my favourite white wines since.

QOTD- Gary, come to Europe! Maybe London, or somewhere in Germany/North Italy would be nice and central…

The Malivoire 2004 Pinot Noir has been getting HUGE reviews – Gary I want to know what you score it!!

    Alex from Montreal

RESPECT Gary! I love the Malivoire Gewurztraminer too. It demolishes most of the Gewurztraminer’s from Hugel that i’ve had. Malivoire has an amazing Gamay too. Seek it out, it will make your jaw drop! The best part about Malivoire is that the wine maker’s name is Shiraz. Yeah, how perfect is that!

Love wines from Alsace… they really know what they’re doing.

    QOTD: Washington DC

Too bad the Malivoire Gewurztraminer 2004 is no where to be found now. I’m in chicago and I can’t find it anywhere. One place in Ontario will ship but s&h is the same cost as the wine itself so I’d be paying over $40 bones! Order some more GARY!

QOTD: Seattle, though you were already here some time ago. Hey come back, Im sure you’ll get even more love than last time. Nice to actually see some Gewurztraminer with some really nice golden color. I like the wine but the only ones Ive had are from local wineries and they do not bring the thunder on the color like those do. Once again I need to dig into my coppers and shell out for some wines outside the US. And believe me, I have no problem doing that. Wine rules.

GV – ya gotta do some more Niagara region wines! I’ll send you the wine! I’ve even got the title – “Canada does Bordeaux”, I’ll send you half a dozen bordeaux type meritages. We’re like no. 32 on the list in the world in terms of wine production, but we’ve got some stupidly high quality wines coming out of Niagara. If nothing else c’mon up and see us sometime – do the Tdot tourist thang and a couple o days in Niagara.

    CKC, and LOVING Gewurtz.

QOTD: I know this is old, but I am sure you have plenty of fans here in Atlanta. The city has a very “changing the wine world” attitude, but can always use a push.

QOTD: Burgundy? enough said….(I think this is a little late but that is just me)

Have you ever tried Claiborne & Churchill’s Gewurtz. They produce purely alsation wines from the edna valley region of Cali, and do a pretty good job if you ask me.

    Gary,
Come to Hamilton Ontario Canada! We will take you to our favourite wineries in the Niagara Region. Malivoire is on our list of wineries. There is also the Hamilton Tiger Cats football team which plays in the Canadian Football league. Your two favourite passions, football and wine!

I’m just finishing the first bottle of Gewurztraminer I’ve ever had, so I remembered this episode. It’s a Bestheim 2004 from Alsace and it just reminded me of the lychee martinis I make with shaken Smirnoff triple distilled and lychee syrup… gorgeous!!

By the way, I would probably never have had this wine if not for GV, so thanks man!

I love Gewurztraminer. i have a wine crush on Taber Hill’s Gewurztraminer when i lived in ann arbor they had a tasting room i would stop in a lot to pick up a bottle, but alas the rent was WAAAAYYYYYY to much and they had to shutdown and there is not a close place to pick it up. Taber Hill is one of the best winerys in michigan.

Atlanta is nice in the fall. Enjoy Navarro Gewurtz from Anderson Valley. Anything from Alsace is good. And it is a nice place to visit. Thanks for exposing us to new things.

QOTD: Well, as a RI native, I’d like to tell you to go to South Eastern New England and visit wineries such as Sakonnett Vineyards, Westport Winery, Glendale, etc. because (and this is MY fututre prediction) S.E. New England will be an extremely valued wine region within the next 10 years because of its representation of the Loir, Alsace, and Mosel wines and varietals with similar climate. The wines from these vineyards and this area show fantastic representation of the “terroir” with zippy acidity and reserved, complex flavors. I know you hate our Pats, and foorball season will be under way by the fall, but you have to adit that this area has potential, and if people start realizing the quality potential here then these value wines will reach “cult” status soon…
