Good grief, Gary!!! What an episode to come back to!! I’m not sure if I should say, “Fan-freakin’-TASTtic!!!” or “calm down, man” (…this I say to the guy that suggested to me many episodes ago “maybe it’s time to lay off the wine just a little, Denise!”)

You are amazing. You ARE the man, Gary!!

    Denise

    P.S. Your haircut looks a little too polished…I like “rough-and-tumble Gary” better. : )

That sounded a lot like the Friday after work drinks really kicked in. I am almost certain that Gary pulled out the karaoke machine and busted a move after that.

I agree with Elliot Essman regarding reliable wines. 80% of wines I buy are new however for the reasons Elliot mentioned it is great to have wines that you know and like.

Woo Hoo ! GV’s on fire!
Wish I would have been around this weekend to post earlier.
To pile on to your point, I think you need to not only try lots of wines but
you have to try lots of GOOD wines. I mean, if you have never had a 95+ point
wine, how can you even conceptualize the experience of a truely fine wine ?
Not that you can afford to drink it every day, but you have to have that as a bookend
so mentally place the relative quality of other wines you are drinking. Once you can
do that, you can have your own personal rating & QPR & whn you taste something,
you will know if it is worth it’s price to you & you will know where it’s deficiencies lie.

Terrific show, one of the best I’ve seen when it comes to passion about wine.-
Chilean wines? I’m not suprised with your reviews.- I’ve tried them all and almost agree 100 percent.- The Cousiño Macul should not deserve more than 80.-
365 wines? The important thing here is the message, try, try and try again

    GV-
Was that a little “shoulder”? Did you just give “the shoulder” to the 2005 Santa Carolina Reserva? Go ahead, review the tape, it’s there.

Amen, brother — 365 wines — I am right there with you!! Also, I love Merlot and am sad to see it’s demise recently with a lot of vineyards — so see what you can do about that Gary!!

Holy Crap GV, that was the best rant EVER! You said exactly what I have thought for years. Keep up ranting and raving…you are changing the wine world.

Yes, Cork’d does blow a big one. I hope WL can change it….good luck on that, they will need it.

    Nice rant.

    I love rants.

Read the rant on the back of the “Double Bastard” beer from Rogue in California. One of the best ever.

    1. Thank you for the up close of your chest hair along with the label of the Santa Carolina, that was a nice touch.

    2. As a DPGS (Dirt Poor Grad Student) I’d like to see some really cheap wines ($7-8?) which, although not at all awesome, could at least be enjoyed. That’s the only way some of us DPGS’s and CKC’s are going to get anywhere near 365 wines a year.

    365 bottles a year!
Is that all ,try 730 you’ll learn twice as fast.

BUT IN AZ WHERE OH WHERE CAN I FIND “CASABLANCA” OR “SANTA CARALINA” CHARD.
    PLEASE HELP OUT!!
    THANKS GARY VAI-NER-CHUCK

Holy crap! Did Gary’s head explode on that rant? That could be the greatest entertainment outside of a wwf wrestler going off his script and yelling threats into the camera. I think I saw spit come out of his mouth.
    Fire it up Gary!

I am so inspired… GARY! GARY! GARY! GARY! GARY! yeah!!!!

QOTD Here! Here! GV hit it on the nose, stop paying for those wine mag subscriptions and just buy more wine. If you don’t like it the wine, just make a wine reduction sauce. But keep tasting and less point chasing.

i’m working a trade tasting in early august, one of the benefits is trying the wines beforehand, during and afterwards.

so hopefully i can knock out 20-40 wines that day only :)

Recently had Santa Carolina’s Carmenere and their Sauvignon Blanc. The Carmenere especially was excellent, glad to see you like the Chard.

Nice rant… QotD: Um… was there one? :P 365 might be a bit tough, but we’ll see. :)

Gary if you wanted to start a cult you are the guy who could do it. Its realy quite scary. Thanks for bringing us the thunder!

    Bryan

Great episode. Glad to see the QPR – tood bad Chile couldn’t go 3 for 3.

QotD: Not sure if I can make it to 365, but I’ll certainly try – not sure if the bank book (or liver) can handle a bottle/day ;)
