Here’s the one bad thing about getting married: you feel like you have to finish the leftover Wedding Wine before spending a dime on anything else! I know I really LIKED the Step Rd, but once we polish off that last bottle, I’ll probably never want another…. Yes, I realize I could have worse problems.

Pouring wine on the table again!!! HAHA Great!!

QOTD: 3 favorite wines? I don’t think I have 3 favorites, and the wine I want to drink would depend on my mood, or how I’m feeling for the day. Some of ones I’m enjoying more often than others: 2006 LaVelle Riesling, 2006 Sokol Blosser Rose, 2005 Witness Tree Pinot Noir

QOTD – Two of my favorites right now are: 2003 Emilio Moro Tempranillo which is fabulous with lamb and the 2005 Rockpile Zin from Mauritson on Dry Creek. Rockpile is fantastic by itself or with most any dark meat and chocolate.

My three favorites right now: 2005 Ladera Sagrada Castello do Papa Godello ($14.99)- like drinking great Chablis for less than half the price – lots of pineapple here; 2005 Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Granges ($13.99)- Cabernet Franc at it’s best, muy delicioso; Domaine Roc de Chateauvieux Vin de Pays Pinot Noir Loire – stupidly good for the price, $9.99

It was a really good show today GV! I was interested to see your picks (and quite happy to see that they were all from France…way to bring the thunder France!)

QOTD: 1) Finca Sandoval 2005 (was also my transition wine, but at $46 it’s not an everyday wine)
    2) Los Alamos Malbec 2005 (had to try it after the Malbec show and I’ve fallen in love!)
    3) Burgans Albarino 2006 (had to try an Albarino after one of your shows and I was so happy to see this wine return to my work!)
    4) Mas de Gorgonnier 2005 (had it at a Rhone/Provence tasting last Friday and it was delicious)

    Hey Gary

QOTD: Samuels Gorge Grenache 2005 – tiny McLaren Vale producer run by a hospital, enthusiastic and nutty bloke. Visiting Samuels Gorge was the highlight (along with Dalwinnie and below) of the six different wine regions I recently visited when back in Australia. A trip to Samuels Gorge perhaps even brings more thunder than Wine Library TV.

Balgownie Estate Reds: Awesome, age-worthy central Victorian reds from the established but small wine region of Bendigo. Buying them in Australia they are fantastic value and offer some quality drinking, different from the usual stuff that Australia gets labelled as producing.

    Cheers
    Andrew

QOTD: Hmm…. three favorites tasted recently.

    Catena 2005 Malbec

As an answer to the question of the day, my one, not three, but my favorite wine is, a bit embarrasing. It’s really cheap (which may add to it’s cred as my favorite), but I can always find it, and afford it no matter how cheap it is. It’s the 2006 Louis Jadot BEAUJOLAIS VILLAGES. That’s the wine I really like. Sure, officially it’s cheap crap, but it treats me well.

Thanksgiving is around the corner, and I may need to go ahead and embrace the pink. I wear pink shirts (and I don’t even call them describe them as “salmon”) so why not try pink wine? I’m going to go for it.

I just got back from Crushpad in SF after sorting grapes that were the first batch picked for the Vayniac Cab. A great time! Stu and the team at CP are incredibly helpful and fun to work with. Everyone involved agreed that the fruit looked outstanding! Off to a good start!

It’s sad for me to say, but I’ve had a lot of crappy wines lately. I really like the Ravenswood Zinfandel, but I had that kind of a while ago now.

I’m currently in the market for better wine shops, so I hope my new discoveries work out. I’ll be making a trip next weekend to NH so maybe I’ll find something out of the ordinary there.
