Wines tasted in this episode:

2005 Harlequin Chardonnay play review at cork'd
2006 Cougar Crest Viognier play review at cork'd
2006 Nefarious Cellars Riesling play review at cork'd
  • EaglesRollHard
Those aren't the best representations of what winemakers in washington are doing right now. Rulo's Viognier, Syncline's Roussanne and Cor Cellars Alba (Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer) are much better plays of what Washington is capable of. I wonder who picked those out for G.
  • Dessert Wine Nerd
Ouch. Overall thats a tough first showing. Has to be hard calling it like it is with some of the winemakers in the room with you but I respect you for not bending over.
  • CaseyLee
kind of an awkward episode. the wines seem interesting. thanks gary and your welcome.
  • Don't you have better things to do ?
  • Personally I haven't been too psyched about Washington whites, but I haven't had any Viogner from there and I'll seek that one out.
  • James Marinello
Just for the record GV I'm raising my hand as someone from WA that didn't like the Cougar Crest!! Well....didn't love it. I'm picking up a ton of oak from a lot of wines from CC.

    I'm ready for part 2!!!
  • Nick R
Way to tell it like it is, regardless of the audience. Hopefully the winemakers know that we vanyiacs know that every palate is different!
  • yowens

  • Harley Stan

great presentation and comments as usual. you might try columbia winery's 2006 cellarmaster riesling, 2005 and 2006 wyckoff' chardonnay and the 2002 red willow syrah. look forward to each commentary. your presentations are interesting and fun to watch. thanks jeff lantz attylantz@yahoo.com

Go so far, on to part two!
  • Hey Gary,
Sorry I missed you in Seattle. I am trying to open the tasting room in Prosser, WA and getting married next month back in Kansas City. TOO MUCH on the plate. Well you know what that is like. Great shows as always. You mentioned Albarino. Obviously you didn't forget I mentioned it. Next week we will be planting 7 acres of it in a real sweet spot in the Yakima Valley. Very excited to start making some of this. Been a fan for years. Will definitely send a sample in 2010 from the tiny amount we get on second leaf.
    Have a great weekend.

I like the sign in posted to the black board.

    GO JETS!

Gary!! So great to meet you in person. Enjoyed being able to attend a live taping of your show - very cool. :-) Thought you were right on with your reviews of the whites. Disappointed that they didn't present you with a better array of what WA has to offer! I look forward to seeing the reds portion of the show. Hope you get back to see us again real soon!
  • Kapers
    Wuu...tough crowd huh?

Nice short one Gary. Too bad the W wasn´t up to standard this time around. Maybe in the next episode?!

All the best from Denmark :D
  • Tom K
    Gary,

Come visit us in Missouri this September and taste some Nortons:

  • Martin
Groovay, I wish I was in Washington this spring. Is that a chalkboard in the background? What is this, the 20th century?
  • You love Morrow.
  • So now your dragging Mott around all over the world. Waiting to see the rest. Only two good white wines from this group so far. Assume the rest will be reds.
  • Wow, day 2 and I am still in the top 100. Sad!

Gary, I am not sure if I like the live format. I know in the end that you are still telling it like it is, but you seem a bit tentative. Must be very difficult to judge the wines when there is a winemaker staring you down.

Looking forward to the reds later today.
  • A 13 minute show that has to be continued....and without a QOTD? Love Washington reds, hope they do a little better in "Washington WLTV III". I've had a few WA reds (and whites) on my blog over the past year, most have been well received.
  • Len
Interesting episode! Like the live format, sounds like everyone is enjoying the tasting although I was a little disappointed in the white wine choices...there are better ones...hope the red-wines are better ....GV, love your honesty even infront of the wine producers....those wines wouldn't bring the thunder for me at all...even the viognier.
  • Chippewamike
Great 1/2 show. Can't wait for the reds (?) tomorrow.
  • Sean
Seriously...what is going on with iTunes? How come the shows aren't making it over there anymore? This is seriously cramping my commute!
  • Karen
Hey Gary--I haven't even finished watching this episode, but your sincerity from the get-go is overwhelming. I'm a big fan (have been since day one)--and it is shows like these, where you talk about how humbling this all is (having even one fan), that makes me misty-eyed! You bring the thunder 24/7--for this we are the lucky ones! And the wine, yeah, that too is only secondary to the bigger picture! Cheers from OH-HI-OH (let us Buckeyes know when you are coming this way!)
  • Nick
hey gary, a good washington state riesling is by Kiona winery. their late harvest and ice wines are also great
  • Alfredhayes
    Unbelievable...
a surprise 2-parter. Appreciate you keeping it real in the lion's den.
  • Gary-thanks for the shout out to eating watermelon rinds. Pickled Watermelon rinds are a gift from above.
  • Adam J
Multi-part episode..nice! Thanks Gary and Mott for coming through for the Vayniacs at home with some on the road tasting, we appreciate it!
