Links mentioned in todays episode.

  • Luden's! Luden's Cherry Cough Drops! Those things were the cher-izzle. Used to fake whooping couch just to get more of the Luden's action. And Boedecker is bodacious.

You had to mention pork belly, didnt you? Thats it, Im throwing down. I will out pork belly you anytime, anywhere. mmmm with a sherry jus and some potatoes and quails egg. Youre going down Vaynerchuk, youre going down hardcore. Nice showing on some of the pinos. Oregon is def. something I need to check out in the future. QOTD: Probably something simple. I want to cook some veal saltimbocca. Watched a recepie on the Food Network and it looked like perfection. Family will love that Im sure.

Isn't Oregon in the mid-lower North West? Washington is the "upper" NW.
  • Oh boy, Randi didn't like the Boedecker! Now I have to try it... and compare notes...
  • MattUD
Had people over for a BBQ and then had a softball tournament, it was a great time.
  • GARY! I cdnt wait to get my hands and mouth on Boedecker...Im drinking it now, have to say my palate doesnt agree about this wine. I agree its complex, I get the tea, I get the heat, I get the Ludens cough drops...but I wasnt blown-away. I have a question...when I received the wine, as it was shipped overnight, the bottle felt warm to me. I taste more of a "sour" flavor and want to know if you think that too much heat could cause this sour-ness.?

    Good Show.

    Q-Not sure.

II really liked that episode Gary. QOTD: We went the North Fork of Long Island and tasted! We were really suprised at the quality especially of Merlot. There's a small producer on the south fork called Channing Daughters who's doing some cool stuff make small productions of blends and rarely heard of varietals- right up the WLTV alley!
  • Tommy Vernieri
QOTD: Different weekend, but this weekend we're going to drink some sparkling wine with friends.
  • glenn
    nice show, nice tee-shirt!

i am heading to SF, shortly i pray!

i liked that Shaw Siduri in the the context of the rest of their wines this past
RRV Winter Wonderland; thought it only behind their way pricier Keefer Ranch PN.
  • Carlitos
QOTD. We went to Montreal for the third time for the long weekend. What a great city!
  • Jason Schermerhorn
Love the show. Really enjoy pinot noir, please keep trying "New World" stuff - some great pinots from NZ and Australia.
  • Victor Mellado
i will spend the last 3 days with my dad before he leaves for Chile, kind of sad, but i will see him and the rest of mi family on December
  • Saw a bottle of Siduri at a local wine shop in Kobe, Japan that I go to. But the Boedecker sounds like the real deal. I've had Patricia Green, Drouhin, and some others and generally enjoy Oregon Pinot quite a bit. Old school funk with new world pizazz.
  • Kenny Dion
    Just relaxing around the house.
  • HI GARY, HOW ARE YOU? Was there a question? If so I missed it. Pinot from Oregon can be very nice!
  • Phil G
i visited some friends from grad school - it was great to see everyone!
  • Nice ep GV...I loved those Dot candies too! They were so great!

QOTD: I worked all weekend at my two jobs, but I got to spend some quality time with my friend, so it was all good!
  • LauraG
QOTD: Had an impromtu party on the 4th of July, my son's 4th birthday party yesterday, and getting ready for a tasting @ my house tomorrow night - busy busy!! :)
  • GV - Hope things are going well in Bordx! QOTD - lots of BBQs and chillage...
  • Oregon Jim
Had a great time at your book signing in Portland! Thanks for coming out. We hope you enjoyed your time here. I was so pumped at how many people came out to the event. You were charming and entertaining and insightful as usual. I even paid full list for the book, but it was worth it once it had your sig on the cover page.

We went to the beach and barbecued chicken and had a Chinon Rose with friends.
I took the book with me and our friends started reading it and now they are interested in your programs.
  • Thanks Gary

A screwtop - good on them; they do sound like they care about their wine. Coming from Australia I still can't believe so many US wines are still produced under cork.

QOTD: Well it's Monday so ... the weekend just gone was about a spectacular afternoon on a friend's junk in Aberdeen Harbour Hong Kong. "Next weekend" I'll be back in Australia an getting very excited my trip to the Claire Valley next Monday morning.

    Cheers
    Andrew
  • QOTD: cooking up some reindeer.
  • Mike Nelson
    Gary,

A lurker makes his first post! After watching 10 episodes I came to realize you taste a lot of f***ing wine. Forty Malbecs in a week? Question of the day for you: What wines do you drink at home?

As for my July 4th I had a friend get us access to the Cabrillo National Monument after hours with his high security pass and got to watch all the fire works for down town San Diego, CA from a cliff overlooking the Pacific. I hope yours was equally amazing. And from the bottom of my heart thank you for such a passionate wine show. Your commitment really shows.

    Mike Nelson
  • QOTD: Me and the family just returned from four days of camping in New Hampshire. So as I catch up on the long weekend's e-mail I watch the last episode of WLTV I missed.
  • Dan-o
    Love the Pinots from ORE!
Have not had any of these, except I have had Siduri from both CA and ORE and I have liked it.

QOTD - Had family over the entire weekend and had a great time!
  • Derek F.
Went camping at Normandy Farms right next Gillette Stadium...your favorite stadium Gary...LOL.
  • Great Show! We've been fans of Boedecker Cellars for years. I can vouch for their quality across the board. They have mad skills. If you order from them, get a few bottles of their rose and purity chardonnay too. Just incredible!
They're one of the invited winemakers at IPNC (http://www.ipnc.org) this month.
If you're coming to IPNC or find yourself in the Willamette Valley/McMinnville area, you can buy their wines at Roths Market in McMinnville right across from the event.
This weekend? Repairing our hacked website but squeezing in a mtn bike ride in Falls City and a few bottles of the aforementioned rose. So it's not a total loss...

i'm already on sunday so i'll tell you what i've done/did/doing: apartment shopping, sweating in the summer humidity, meet with good friends, make some AWESOME curry for me and the wify.

Luden's Cough Drops... one of my favorites. I'll be looking for the Boedecker when I travel through Oregon up to Portland.
qotd: It's been quiet, busy and smoky here in California on the 4rth weekend.
  • jawsh
Excellent show, Gary. I am so excited about Oregonian pinot...I'll have to check the Boedecker out.

QOTD: I have chef duty, so I am cooking the usual Independence Day fare on the grill. Couple that with some great wine and family and it is going to be a great weekend.
  • Steven E
Great show! Have you tried or heard of Cristom cellars-- they make a great Oregon pinot noir in the same $$ range.

QOTD-- Going to the St. Paul rodeo for some all-american fun!!!

I have a question for Gary-- How did you like your visit to Oregon? Did you enjoy the Thunder Storms?
  • We went to the blues fest in Portland.
Thanks again Gary for the cupcake.
  • Cuse Wino
QOTD- Heading to Lake Michigan for week with inlaws.

Another great show. I second the letter read. You have given us all so much knowledge that we use to impress others and to just enjoy the wine we drink so much more. Keep it up.
  • Russ
QOTD.... Stampede time in Calgary! Yahoo!!
  • QOTD: I'm hanging out with my peeps tonight at a BBQ, and then chilling for the rest of the weekend. And hit the gym once or twice. :-)

So Gary, when are you going to do a Canadian wine show? Lots of shows dedicated to wines from around the world... yet the Canadian contingent has been seriously lacking! :-)
  • wayno da wino

Gary - those dot candies you mentioned - are those the ones that are dots of candy on strips of white paper ???
Well... if so, they are an old candy type called shoe buttons from the time when they wore high-buttoned shoes.
This weekend with the family - no definite plans but we might just have a casual cook-out type deal.
    Have a good holiday yourself.
    Michael

    Gary,

Great show, I'll be ordering the Boedecker real soon. I'll be spending the holiday with my awesome wife. The shout out for my 50th was such a hoot. Thanks. Happy & safe 4th of July celebration to all ! If the 4th is just another day for you, celebrate anyway !!

    Gary
