QOTD: I had the 2006 Terra De Verema Triumvirat over the weekend and was totally blown away. Talk about a phenominal QPR wine! Only wish WL still had it in stock. Ester Nin is one very talented wine maker! Would love your recommendations of wines similar to her signature style.

QOTD: Last night I had the Mercer Merlot yu had on your show last week. Really good. We also had a Chatteauneuf-du-Pape which I really loved; nice and earthy.

Once in Chablis I asked if the wine was “oaked”. I got a glare for the owner and an admonishment that “We NEVER oak our wine!”.

Keep up the wine info sessions, there is so much to learn about wine and it’s hard to know where to start on your own sometimes.

QOTD: Fetzer Zin, and Trapiche Malbec Reserva 2006

QOTD – I’ve been drinking, and liking, some California Syrah. The Saison Des Vins Syrah L’hiver is nice, also Mandolin.

    Great show, Gary!

QOTD: I’m all over the place, man! I had a Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Rayas Pignan 04) at Clo NYC yesterday that totally fascinated me. I’m gearing up for a tasting club event on the wines of Spain. 2005 Bordeaux, right and left bank – I’ve been reading Parker, so I’m really excited about tasting more of these regions. Nebbiolo – I’ve got an 07 Grasso Langhe Nebb that’s going on 48 hrs and I’ve been tracking its changes as it gets better and better. Had a Gewurz that rocked my world. Tried my first Riesling Spatlese (didn’t think I’d like it, but I loved it – like a luscious saffron and fruit dessert!). Had a Burg that changed my mind about pinot – sparklingly pretty, high acid with forest floor flavors. I asked the guys at the Corkscrew to pick me out a couple random bottles that I tasted blind – I had a beautiful Chilean carmenere pegged as a Chinon cab franc! I had some Scholium Verdelho from CA that brought serious thunder as well…

What I’d like to know is: What are YOU drinking when you’re not working? Beer?

Although I’ve bought a few Barolos over the past couple years, none have really hit their drinking window yet, so I’ve not tried any of them. I went to a wine tasting a couple of weeks ago and tasted my first Barolos then. I’m now hooked. I bought a case of Barolos last week and tried one over the weekend. Another expensive habit has reared its ugly head.

QOTD: Don’t have a “go to” wine. I’ve always got something different going. There is always a white and red open on any given night at my house. Right now it’s a Godello from Galicia in Spain and red blend from Costières-de-Nîmes.

QOTD:Lately Pinot Noir, but tonight I’m going to have my first Austrailian Malbec.

QOTD: I’ve recently started hanging out with some wine industry folks out here in WA and they’ve been kind enough to pop all kinds of really big WA cabs. To be honest, I’m not as impressed as I thought I would be. Still very fun, though.

Nice show GV i appreciate the wine nerd stuff…I was someone who thought Chablis was just the big jug of wine….

Fantastic! Love Chablis, and nice work with the knowledge at the beginning. You know I like that. You didn’t talk about the 2007 Chablis, though! 2007 is suppose to be a FANTASTIC vintage in Chablis (perhaps the best in decades)… Already have a few cases on pre-order. Mr. Meadows is loving on them… (gave one point lower score to a Premier Cru I ordered at $20 than the Grand Cru you tasted today) And I love how you can get Grand Cru wines for $40-60 all day long, and I mostly prefer these to Grand Cru whites from the Cote d’Or at 4 times the price.

QOTD: Drinking 2004 Amarone! Galloni blew up the Bussolo Vigneto Alto which I have some bottles of… good stuff coming down the pipe…

OK…… I get it now. By the size of that wallaet I now know why you love it when the Jets win. You Bet on them!!! No wonder!!!

Well, now that I figured that out….because you know how NOT interested in sports I am…. but I do liek to gamble. I meean why else would somebody go so crazy when a football team wins a game.

QOTD: I’m not drinking Belle-Vue….because you ran out and I can’t get anymore. So I am drinking ‘BARRUA’ a Wine by Agricola Punica Sardinia….thanks to Ian. Now that’s a wine you should have on the show.

Gary, you had my mouth watering describing these wines.

I hate to have to give the Jets props since they beat my Bills, but I have to. The AFC East is going to be interesting these next several weeks.

QOTD: I tried my first Albarino last evening with Mussels. Wonderful. And this coming from a Red wine guy. Just goes to show…expand your palate!!! Now on to Chablis.

QOTD: Recently my go to wine has been 2005 Capolan Merlot. It normally retails from $9.99-13.50 but for some reason Trader Joe’s is selling it here on the West Coast for $3.99. I probably would think that it was a pretty good drink (better after 3-4 hrs of air) for $10 but for $4 it is an absolute steal. I have recently also had an 2006 Ancient Peaks Zinfandel $13.99 that was KILLER. Kicking myself that I didn’t try it sooner so that I could have bought more than the 3 initial bottles. The 491 cases went real quick.
