Gary, this is one of my favorite episodes to date. I love the “grab-bag” format; some interesting wines; some QPR going on; some tight tasting notes; and a great “QOTD”. You should bring back this format in the future! It would be awesome to chill on the laid-back friday couch, over some varieties I’ve never tried before (there are still many!) and just talk about wine, music, business…oh and as a 22 year old I resent the boy/man remarks!

QOTD: Ask you about your favorite music and reading materials. Get to really know you beyond just wine.

QOTD: I guess a question would come to me if we were actually sitting together over a glass of wine. It would depend on the mood as to what the question would be.

    Great wines.

QOTD: How do you keep focussed? If I was trying so much wine all of the time, then I would probably get locked into some types. How do you keep an open mind?

I love the Potel-aviron Moulin A Vent. I had it at Elettaria on 8th St. in the Village, and I was blown away by it. I’ve been drinking 2005 Beaujolais whenever I can find them, and they are all very good, but none were as good as the Potel-aviron. It made such an impression on me, that I still remember what it tastes like. And I was predicting your tasting notes even before you said them — strawberry, then cream, then silky. YOU NAILED IT!

I’ve been looking for this wine in wineshops in NYC since the Spring, and I could never find it. I’m so glad you have it. Your palate is really amazingly similar to mine. Kudos Gary.

That Gewürz sounds great and the Gamay as well! If only I could buy every bottle in your store!

QOTD: What do you do to chill out (or do you have any time for that)?

Nice show and way to give props to Cru Beaujolais. Cru Beaujolais was the wine that hooked me as a “serious” wine drinker. Which reminds me that there isn’t any in my cellar at the moment so I have to change that.

QOTD: If you had to suggest one varietal (one red and one white) that most people have never had and should try, what would they be?

I would ask how did you know that I was spending Thanksgiving with my Aunt Sue? Crazy. That Gerwurtz sounds right up my alley.

Back to the roots…or so it seemed, you were very relaxed and then the shows seem even better. Nice wines as well…I’m eager to taste them (although I’m off for Australia this Friday and will expand my palate there!)

QOTD : I would like to talk to you about your Russian roots (traditional celebrations, habits, …)…in my opinion, we forget too easily our roots (to fit in, I guess), but there are so many things our kids might enjoy what we enjoyed when we were kids…don’t put it aside, but cherish it!

QOTD: Given that sense experience is a subjective phenomenon, why should I listen to anything you say about wine analysis? Your common response is, “Don’t listen to what I say.” However, if I then don’t listen to what you say, I will be following your advice of not listening to what you say. Do you think this is an infinite regression or can you think of a way out of this?

Great episode! I shall have to look for Gewurztraminer and Beaujolais at my local wine purveyor. Meanwhile…

QOTD: What does your family do for Thanksgiving, and what is your favorite Turkey Day staple, and why?

HUGE SHOUTOUT to another great show. I’m a newbie to winelibrary (about 2 months) and your show is “hands down” the most educational & FUN piece on the web.
QOTD: With the slow ecomony and hence slow sales (for some) how would you go about a normal work week different this year than in the past. BTW this is my 2nd year in wine sales and could use any little piece of advice.
    Thanks

Great show as usual! And that particular beaujolais may be my wife’s dream wine. I hope we can find it in Hawaii.

QOTD: If you were to produce one wine bearing your name…what varietal or blend would you choose, and from where would it be?

QOTD: Considering that you have grown up (mostly) in the USA, how do you perceive Russian arts (ex. have you seen (liked) A.Tarkovsky movies, have you read (liked) Solzhenitsyn, have you had interest to see (or have seen) Red Army Choir,…).

QOTD: How often do you get a corked wine on the show? I’ve never heard you mention it, so you must replace one with a second bottle before taping. What happens when you don’t have a replacement bottle?

  25. November 12, 2008

    Roberto

QOTD: If you could live somewhere else (outside the US), where would you live?? and you can’t answer that you wouldn’t!!!

    thanks!!
