6 months ago, I decided to try out some serious coffee and grind it right there. I tried this mainly because of a friend who made fun of my chock full of nuts habit, saying that’s what his grandparents drink. And I got a french press and grind ed some Hawaiian Blue and I was blown away, It was the first time i really tasted the coffee, yeah I’ve been to Starbucks and got a coffee or a frapaccino (WHICH ARE AWSOME)but i never really thought about what I was drinking.
Now, I am a full fledged junkie, I have multiple grinders and a slew of french presses, vac pots, aeropress’es, drip percolators, high end espresso machine, a super-automatic espresso machine, Turkish coffee pot.
I get all my beans fresh roasted and expedited shipping then I immediately vacum pack them to keep them as fresh as possible. A total coffee nerd. And, I love it.

First time watching the show- hilarious! And I learned something about wine, always a plus. Gary definitely knew what he was doing bringing Sarah and Streeter on: as a college student myself, I was drawn in and will without a doubt stick around for more episodes.

    Q1: bangs=awesome!
Q2: one big tooth, but pray you don’t get a cavity!

One thing that struck me from reading the comments, though, is that I think the irony of the show was lost on some viewers. Streeter and Sarah know just as well as Gary where Portugal is, and were appealing to their CH demographic by being silly about it.

“The two themes in the comments above seemed to be either “I hate this episode because it was low-brow and idiotic” or “I loved it because it was irreverent and funny.”

    blah blah blah typical holier-than-thou-bull”

Wow. I’m not exactly sure if you understand this show at all. What’s the catchphrase again? Changing the wine world? Because your attitude reminds me of every wine snob I’ve ever met. If it doesn’t suit you, then it just isn’t good at all, is it? If you don’t think it’s funny, they just need to “shut up”. That’s not a reasonable thing to say, and the only reason you would is because your horse is so high that you’re starting to lose oxygen to your brain.

Also please rewatch more episodes of the show and take note of how often Gary goes off and talks about things not related to wine. He’s notorious for going off on a tangent about random things that get brought up, often having to catch himself. Notice that he was the one who kept going on about the punching thing. But seeing as he’s a wine drinker, and these “snarky college kids” aren’t, it’s easy to see why you’re so bias.

Gary knew what he was getting bringing on CollegeHumor guys. He didn’t bring them in to get their expert opinions on wine. He didn’t bring them in because of his love affair with their boss. He brought them in to expand his user base. Much like how he wants to expand people’s palates in wine drinking, he also wants to expand the show’s palate so to speak by bringing in different people. How is it changing the wine world if he’s just preaching to the choir? And obviously Gary agrees with me because he even brought in Jake and Amir, who had even LESS to say about wine.

I honestly have to stop reading comments on this site, because I feel like a lot of you go against everything that Gary says this place is about. It’s like this site was trying to be about changing the wine world, but a bunch of wine elitists found out about it through the grapevine and ruined it. I know not all of you are like that, but it is a major turn off for the crowd that Gary is trying to bring in. When J&A came on he got a huge amount of people coming in to the site, but a lot of them saw the nasty comments and felt like they weren’t wanted. So I have to congratulate you Smiddy, for attempting to undo what the owner of this blog is trying to accomplish for the wine world. It’s rare to see such dedication towards an antithetical view from one who claims to be a fan of something.

HAHA I loved the intro to this episode, Streeter is from Connecticut like myself, nice to see some CT love on the Thunder Show, however Gary on his own has made me a massive fan of the Dirty Jers, so no hate there, just glad to see a Connecticut peep on the show, even though I’m living in Montana now…

Too bad Gary said Connecticut was the “…like the worst place ever..” for real Geevee? Show us some love, we invented the hamburger.

Overall I think the episode was very entertaining, even though I kind of wanted to see the college humor folks be a slight bit more serious about what they smelled or tasted in the wines that they were introduced to in this episode.

Thank you SO much for using the term Bo-Bo!!! I use it ALL the time and I get the same reactions that you got from Streeter and Sarah. I’m hooked on this site because I want to learn so much more about wines….but Bo-Bo?? So money!!

Ok, it took me a while to get around to watching this one! Funny show – nice change of pace. No need to hate on the CH folks if that isn’t your style. Just as with wine: go with what you like and respect the fact that other people like other things.

Back in the day, the rule for the jinx game was that the jinxed person couldn’t speak until someone said his or her name. Since Sarah almost immediately called Streeter by name, the jinx was lifted and there was no need for Streeter to stay silent.

    Bangs = sexy
    Big tooth

    Weirdly fun episode!

    QOTD #1: Huh? Gross!

QOTD #2: I would rather have one big tooth because then I wouldn’t get food stuck between my teeth.

I have been super busy lately, but finally got to sit down and watch this episode. As a CKC, I was looking forward to this episode and it didn’t disappoint! I was laughing so hard; they all got along quite well and kept cracking some good jokes. Of course, CH doesn’t hit all demos, so I can understand why many people might not have enjoyed it. But I did, so thanks guys! (See, not all wine nerds are stuck up!)

QOTD1: Probably like the inside of the industrial furnace used to burn all of that junk up, off the Jersey Turnpike just south of NYC.
QOTD2: Big tooth. Opposable thumbs are awesome! Plus, hasn’t anyone ever heard of dentures?

Btw, Pétrus was originally in the “Sideways” novel as the wine Miles drinks at the end, but had to be taken out as Christian Moueix didn’t want it in the movie. That’s why they decided for Cheval Blanc, although they obviously didn’t do their homework.

    Great episode!!!
QOTD 1A): It would taste like Selaks Ice WIne
QOTD 1B): Yes, definitely like Sarah’s bangs
QOTD 2): If I had to have one or the other, this one is EASY! I totally need all of my fingers- it’s frustrating enough when I cut a finger ad try to work, wash my hair, brush my teeth, wash dishes, etc. Having only one giant upper tooth? That would be great! No flossing, no shifting of teeth, and I could’ve avoided 3 years of braces when I was younger!!

GREAT questions and an extremely fun EP.

Such a cool episode. I have so many friend who when I ask them to tell me what they smell and taste first answer ‘wine, it smells like wine…’ and then later really get into it and discover that they can actually identify tastes and smells. Way to go to show this on your show…

qotd:it would smell bobo… with a hint of lightness, obviously
and:it would have to be one freakishly big tooth :-P

In regards the negative comments: This was a show about “college wines.” The great thing about wine is that there are so many variations and qualities that it can appeal to a very wide group of people. The particular episode is recognizing the fact that it can also appeal to college kids. So they brought on the “college kid” experts. Bringing on wine experts or mature individuals would have ruined the message of the show! And it was very entertaining and well done.
And good grief! They knew Portugal was a country! It was a joke! If you took a moment to go to their website (like I did) you will find many of the articles from Streeter and Sarah are insightful and very in touch with today’s world. (OK, definitely not all of their work, but these two are very smart, very successful, young individuals who have accomplished quite a bit so far)

QOTD1: It would probably would smell like what I imagine India smells like.
QOTD2: Bangs? They look…. nice?.. good?.. fluffy?
QOTD3: Easy. One tooth. As long as it’s curved, you could draw lines on it to resemble multiple teeth. With one finger and a huge fingernail.. that would look totally gross. You couldn’t hold anything, couldn’t pick your nose.. Terrible idea.

Definitely one of the funniest shows and a great one to watch if people are just getting into wine (and Wine Library).

    QOTD 1 – Riesling?
QOTD 2 – Without a doubt the finger.. the tooth would be horrible!
