Great guest and wine discussion. I thoroughly enjoyed this guy. Nothing like a language barrier to keep it all so honost. you move a little fast for the foreign guests, though. Just you, I know. Would like to know where i can get the Negra 2.

    Hey Devinos
I'm not that much of a soccer fan, but what I do know is that I like the mentality and playfullness that seems to be characteristic of Barca more than I like what's has been going on in Real for the last 10 years. Obviously, Barca is buying good players to make a world class team (with the emphasis on 'team'), but they seem to be trying to build players as well. In Real, there has been a clear tendency towards buying players just in order to sell shirts. We all know that a world class team doesn't consist of ten Zidanes or Ronaldos, but of the right combination of players. You don't nescessarily have the best team in the world, because you have the money to buy the eleven best players in the world, and thank god for that. Right now I actually think that Barca is going the wrong way, in trying to have too many stars on the team….why do they need Zlatan when they have Messi?

He is looking good for the Australian open. Do you think he can win? I think he can beat Federer, but what if the final is Djokovic-Nadal? I'm not sure….

    Gary -

What's shakin' my friend? Good show, great guest, I know I've seen those wines around before, but haven't had the chance to try them. I am sure you're pretty pumped about the Jets turn out, but I gotta be honest I was routing for the Bengals!

One thing about Miquelangel, the only word that was bouncing around in my head for the entire show wa…”integrity!” He's a good dude! Keep it real…

GV-Great way to handle the situation…exactly what I expected from you – you always have been honest with us so I felt to answer honestly would be the only way!

Love the label. Red is such a forceful color! Bold! and his opinion about the biodynamic think I felt that way for a long time!! Terrific interview and will for sure seek this wines out to try something new!!

QOTD: no real opinion good luck Jets!

Way to go Jets! Seems they have a new life.

I think the Pete Carroll news really fired up Mark Sanchez for some reason. Thanks Pete for leaving!

Also, Bengals defense just stopped playing(running) the last half which really helped.

Next week at San Diego is going to be hard, but the Chargers always seem to choke in the playoff games.

Yes, the anonymity of the internet seems to embolden the inarticulate. Thank you for “puttin' it out there”, GV! I have learned so much about wine from WLTV.
And thanks for coming to Denver on your book signing tour. It was a thrill to meet you!
Loved the Anima Negra show and learning about the varietals.

Nice episode with very interesting wines. I really liked the AN/2 when I tried it.

QOTD. FC Barcelona's current team is one of the best I've seen, improving on the Dream Team from the 90's. As a whole Barcelona have a great playing philosophy of respecting the ball and playing attractive football. That being said their current management is mixing up too much separatist politics with what should be just a sport.

  20. January 11, 2010

    cgomezmoreno

WL. I like the new format of the comments, but please give us the option to display all the comments in one page. It was very useful before to be able to search for key words and now you have to skip through a number of pages which is a pain. Thanks!

    jwink

GV we know you encourage all opinions which is why the last episode had so many. Any guest with a “playoff-beard” like that is going to rock; he has kind of a Capt. Lou Albano look to him too.

QOTD: I know nothing about the Barcelona team, won't pretend to know.

Good job on the NFL predictions…have more faith in your Jets LOL. Tough game this week with the cross-country travel and a good Chargers team.

  22. January 11, 2010

    jacamp16

    Gary,

Were you able to work a deal for some of the AN/2? I saw it this weekend at the Whole Foods by my house. They were selling it for $25! Lame.

  23. January 11, 2010

    Mike in C-town

Double bonus!!!! Jets win and the Pats “dropped the ball”, fumbled and threw it away, etc. Outta here!

I really enjoyed this show. The wines were very intriguing from Gary's descriptions and I like the fact that the wines were made from predominantly unknown (to me) grapes. Very cool way to expand ones' virtual palate. Now I have to try some for real. Miguel seemed like a very cool dude, too.

QOTD: I'm just not a soccer fan.

  28. January 11, 2010

Nice opportunity to bash Jay Miller, Gary!

Guess what, 7 times out of 10, Cellar Tracker scores meet or exceed his scores on Aussie wines. There are the old world fans who chime in with very low scores, but you can tell by their comments that it is not their style. In the same way, I destroy many high score old world wines on Cellar Tracker.

For me, Antonio Galloni is way off base. His 94s are usually 74s for me, The real solution is to rotate the reviewers regionally or only submit reviews they have all tried. It is all too clear that taste in style of wine is much more important any objective judement. For me, Jay Miller is a guide to wines I would love. That is how it should be, to pull him from Australia would be insane, his taste is perfectly suited to the supreme ripeness of the fruit.

    Hi Kasperhip,

If you're interested in purchasing Anima Negra wines in Denmark you can purchase them at http://www.theisvine.dk. For me, they are the best wine importer in Denmark.

QOTD: The current Barcelona team is, in my opinion, one of the best football teams ever. I'm a Manchester United fan and we were totally outclassed by Barca last season in The Champions League. Barca have reached utopia in footballing terms.

  30. January 12, 2010

    CellarRat5

Good show. More Australian bashing, I am sure you loved that Gary! Bring on the blind Auzzie show! have Ian pick some small producers, see if you change your tune a little bit. Great responce to the run away locomotive of 796, not so subtle in the beginning subtle toward the end, like a nice Shiraz from Molly dooker!! I am a little behind, looking forward to watching the Croatian episode. I dont know anyting about football but congrats on the jets win! They might have lost already for all I know and if they havent didnt mean to jinx em!

  31. January 12, 2010

QOTD: Iniesta is great, but Barcelona isn't my favorite team.

  32. January 13, 2010

    pguerci17

I liked that – seems like an interesting guy. Inspires me to expand the palate, indeed. Nice Jets win – will be much harder next week!

QOTD – I don't follow them, but like their jerseys…

I loved the story. Doing something new when it is really just beginning again to do things how they used to be done is always a great plot for me!

The “show all comments” function is a must-have, please bring it back!

Thanks for the great show, I love learning about new areas and new grapes!

    Aussie Chris

Great episode, really appreciated the knowledge that Miquelangel brought to the table. He’s obviously very passionate about his wine and the philosophies of his winery.

Gary, I live in Australia (Brisbane) and wonder why you’re not a fan of our wines? I agree there are definitely some shockers but surely you have tried some beautiful wines from Tyrrell’s, Yalumba, etc?

    PS love the beard.

QOTD: A few years ago I think Barcelona were a great team, now they may be a little too big for their boots (my opinion!)

  37. January 13, 2010

    jayhitek

QOTD: Soccer? What's that? Oh that thing with the feet. Ya.. Umm.. I prefer Footbal Americano.
Soccer is too boring. Not enough scoring.

I'd love to go to Mallorca. It sounds idyllic.
QOTD: Apparently the Barcelona players are superstars. Congratulations.
The Jets are looking like superstars too.

    Hey Gary,
This was an awesome episode, winemaker guests are always great. Plus, now I've got a new grape and producer to seek out, now all I need is room in my cellar.
    QOTD: ???

Great guest, will look for the wines. Good call regarding the Cowboys.

    Congratulations to the Jets.

I'm a “quiber”, one of the residents of the imaginay country “Quibia”, and the proprietor of SDS International Company, wine & liquor importers and distributors in Panama specialist in wines of Spain. We work with Anima Negra wines and after some years of colaboration we feel Miquel Angel more than a wine producer, is a good man, an excelent friend that we cosidered part of the family. We explain to ours costumers that in Anima Negra wines it's possible to found more than callet grapes or Mallorca terroir, it's possible to feel the soul of Miquel Angel.

Wow, what a great episode. Loved the guest, his passion about the wine (especially in contrast with the previous episode (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

Good show with great guest! I'd like to hang out for a day or 2 with folks like him. The pride and passion really came thru loud and clear.

Good stuff. I liked this guy. The wines sounded nice.

QOTD: I don't know anything about them, except the last time I was in Rome (this past May/June) thousands of Barcelona fans came to town, and 5 of them beat up a local kid beneath my rented apartment window so badly he had to be taken to a hospital. There was a pool of blood left on the ground 3' in diameter. Why did this happen? Because he was wearing a Roma shirt (in Rome!). Then another part of this group spray painted on a beautiful Renaissance building designed by Giacomo Vignola. They went away shortly after that. That's all I know about Barcelon FC.

I come from an old FL family with ancestry from Minorca, the sister island, so very interested to see anything to do with the gastronomy of the Balearics. I love Iberian wine, and would love try something from that region. Don't suppose anyone's found anything of interesting out of Minorca or Ibiza? QOTD: I know little-nothing about futball.
