Line of the day – ‘I could literally sit here and sniffy sniff this wine all night long.

I really enjoyed this episode as GV got a little serious as well as exploding with his normal enthusiasm.

    QOTD – At a business dinner on Thursday we started with Champagne and ended with an Austrian Auslese. Both were excellent. It reminded me that I need to drink more sparkling and white wines instead going straight to reds all the time.

    You may also want to see a chiropractor for that stiff neck. I did and it made all the difference in the world for my range of motion. QOTD – ham.

    Nice show, Gary. What a range of scores! 84, 90 and 95+! Wow. 90 bones is a lot but your description of the last wine REALLY intrigued me. I was guessing that you were going to give it a 94 or 94+ so the 95+ really surprised me. Interesting stuff. Thanks for the educational info as well. Burgundy is just a place that I have not paid enough attention to and really haven’t delved into enough. I am going to try and change that this year.

    In the wine world, I saw your recent show on Oregon Pinot Noirs and I tried some at a local wine tasting and I got excited and ordered a couple of mixed cases. I had forgotten how interesting those wines could be.

    In the non-wine area, I turned 50 late last year. This caused me to reflect on my life and how I have lived thus far and have led me to reexamine my spirituality and my own way of life. Not like marriage or job changes, because those areas are both great. But just a reexamination about what REALLY is important and hopefully a commitment to pay more attention to those things and to think about them before I act or speak.

    Qotd: I know a small unknow winery in Ohio. Yes, Ohio called Markko who produce some of the finest Chardonay I’ve ever had. The wine maker, Arnie Easterer, a man in his late 70’s srudied under Karsten Frank and has dedicated his life to quality, not marketing. These wines take you on time travel. Just as the White Burg did to you. You must try thses wines especially to 07 the current vintage. Great show, keep Mot isn the mix. Much like Jonny Carson and the inportant roll Ed M. played in in the show.

    I havent been drinking wine lately.. GASP! Sshhh…I know..I know.. lol
    So I will answer this on life..as you did..
    BTW..I LOVE massages…and I love giving them for some reason..lol
    I have re-examined so much in the last 6 months…had a life altering experience..and Im thirsty for time now..wanting to take in all new experiences..and open to understanding the differences between people.. LOLOL Kinda heavy, eh? Hee hee..

  • Good show, white burgs can be the bomb or the most overpriced wine out there depending on the bottle and the premox.

    QOTD: Hiking, having a torn hamstring for the past 6 months has really hampered me, but any time I go for a short walk it makes me crave it more and more.

    qotd – this year, i really fell in love with german rieslings and nebbiolo based wines. i surely have started to buy more of those for my cellar.

    QOTD: Actually on beer. I’ve been drinking pretty much exclusively wine for a while now. I started drinking beer again over the holidays and completely rediscovered its deliciousness. I’m still drinking primarily wine but I’ve been tossing in the occasional beer here and there and enjoying quite a bit!

    Great episode. I love Puligny – it’s always Puligny and Meursault I look to when I’ve money to spend on a nice white Burgundy.

    QOTD – I’ve been discovering lots about organic and biodynamic wines.. I think the wines to make me realise how good they can be were the Domaine Chasselay 09 Morgon ‘Les Charmes’ (red) and Barone Pizzini 09 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore (white).

  • QOTD: the introduction to dry rieslings, and Viogniers has put me on the hunt for more complex wines from these varietals. I love finding wines that start off one way, and finish in another, and I’ve seen it in these grapes.

    QOTD: Well we just had the one bottle we owned of 1995 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc De L’Orée! Well, this was unlike ANY white wine I’ve EVER had in ANYWAY! I would love to explore more of these Emitages now!

    Prager Riesling Wachstum Bodenstein Smaragd 2007 — one of the best wines I EVER tasted– and I have had some fantastic wines– I usually drink red, but this white excited me more than some first growth ’82 bordeaux

    qotd a Camus Cognac tasting – I tried cognac as a kid and thought it tasted like perfume – yuck. What a difference a more mature palate and better product make.

    GV congrat on a big 5 years man that awsome. I actually watched the show today with my 2 year old daughter and she was calling you Vaychuk it was pretty funny.
    QODT: Man there are to many great moments to choose from but some of my favs. are the shows with your dad they are always great shows and prop. the weather affect on wine episode #182 it was one of the 1st ones I watch and I thought this guys crazy I have to watch more of these and that was that I was hook. You and your shows really opend me up to wine and the wine world so thank you. Keep up the great work GV and bring on 1000!!!!

  • Congrats on the 5th anniversary, way to go on putting together a great show with a fun format. I’m not even a big fan of wine (being a beer-guzzling boor) but what I take away from your show is the vocabulary of taste and the emphasis on smell as a major part of the experience. I took a sniffy-sniff of my Stella and savoured it a little bit tonight. I even drank it out of a glass! Thanks for putting out a great show and keep givin’er for another 5 years.

    Everytime I put a good white burgundy down for a couple of years, I end up really disappointed when I open the wine after the ageing…The dry sherry taste is allways predominent…I have a good cellar and never have a problem with good reds….Ken from Chicago

    Everytime I try to age a good Montrachet, I end up disappointed. After a couple of years in My cellar, the wine takes on a dry sherry flavor that tells me the wine is starting to maderize….I have a good cellar and never have this problem with good reds…Ken from Chicago

    QOTD: Moving to the jungle made me re-examine my long lost love for the great outdoors. I now live in a subtropical region and commute to a small town in the Mexican Jungle where I’m developing a resort, made me re-think the whole “get outside and play” thing…
