  • Currently the Simpsons are tops, but especially the cartoon within the cartoon: “The Itchy and Scratchy Show”. As a kid I loved the original Spiderman and Tom and Jerry.

    Go Bears.

GREAT EPISODE!!!!!!!! luv the “Gary Picks” episodes; Had the NO a few months ago…bought it in the store per the little card on shelf with Gary’s recommendation….excellent Sauv Blanc!!

    QOD:

    1. OLD SCHOOL Cartoons: It’s not debatable….it’s the “BUGS BUNNY/ROAD RUNNER HOUR”. The opening song sequence with all of the Warner Bros. charachters singing and dancing on stage is worth the price of admission ALONE (remember Jerry Seinfeld performing this number for Elaine outside the Opera House just before “crazy” Joe Davola appears in full clown regalia). Also grew up watching FLINTSTONES every day after school.

    2. NEW SCHOOL Cartoons: SIMPSONS(I know…not so new anymore), FAMILY GUY & of course, SOUTH PARK.

Well, what an interesing QOD. For me, it’s a toss up between Bugs Bunny or The Roadrunner and The Coyote. And I’m talking about the original shorts made for movie theaters, not the inferior quality(IMO) cartoons made primarily for TV starting in the early 60’s. Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck messing with Elmer Fudd are classics. I enjoy them still.

Favorite cartoon is BUGS BUNNY. Best cartoon EVER!!!!!!!

Gary, funny little tib bit. I was at an Amerone tasting over the weekend with some friends. I took a good sniff of one of the wines we were tasting and said “Fig Newtons”. Everyone looked at me and chuckled. The host of the party said “I just so happen to have some Fig Newtons”. So I told her to break them out, and pass them around. Bam, dead on….who’s laughing now. I have learned more and more to just say exactly what the wine reminds me of and not care about what people think.

Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Super Friends, Simpsons, Family Guy. Most hated Pokemon, Digimon, Beyblades or any other crap like that my son is compelled to watch. Although, Teen Titans and Justice League aren’t bad.

I’m dating myself. Favorite cartoon……….Mighty Mouse with Pearl Pure Heart and Oil Can Harry. Watched with my dad every Saturday morning.
Tasted a Norton at a recent wine judging in Washington DC. I loved it. It was something I had never heard of. Was it ever popular? This one was from St James Winery in Missouri.
    Looking forward to 100!!!!!!!!!!

  • You mentionned that you’d like to be corrected on pronounciation. I’ve done so before but here it is again: “Blanc” has a silent “c”. Just pronounce the word as you would normally but drop the last letter!

As far as cartoon characters go, Homer Simpson is a classic of course, but also the Road Runner, La Linea, and Family Guy’s Mayor West.

  • South Park
    Futurama
    Simpsons
Ren and Stimpy (remember them? Happy happy joy joy!!!)
And of course all the old classics that I grew up on, particularly the Warner Bros crew.
Wiley Coyote and the Roadrunner were my all time favs as a kid, though Rocky and Bullwinkle were up there as well.

BTW, the Covey Run Riesling wasn’t bad at all. Nice touch of spritz. The Hess Select was a generic chardonnay. “Buttered oak” was the first thing spontaneously out of my mouth.

  • Hey everbody, long time watcher first time poster…

I need some advice, for storing wine…any advice as to what kind/brand of wine refrigerator I should get. I am thinking low-mid range and holding from 20-40 bottles. Will a run of the mill fridge from like home depot work?

Gary thanks for directing me here!

A way to for us viewers to smell the wines…that would be fab! Sadly, DigiScents tried but failed (see http://www.thestandard.com/article/0,1902,23654,00.html)

But,there may be hope (in 14 years):

  • the professor and….

Micheal P. I’d have to agree with your cartoon choices EXCEPT Magoo. Hated that one, wanted to slap him, even as a kid. Also loved Scooby Doo and Couragous Cat and Minute Mouse.

Gary, loved the episode today. This is one of the reason why I watch, for the diamonds.

Great episode. We can always use more diamonds in the rough. Fav cartoon: Batman, the animated series. Keep up the great work, so I don’t have to.

  • Mike C…I asked a similiar question a few epsisodes back and there was a lot of great advice.

#1 piece of advice…Buy a bigger unit than you would expect. I originally bought a 54 unit and thought I would never fill it…then had to ask advice on 300 plus units.

#2 People might disagree with this one, but it’s worked for me. The stuff from Home Depot, and the less expensive models will work, but usually they are refrigeration units only. They do not usually have humidity to them. They will work if your just trying to keep wines cool for a short time 2-3 years MAX. If this is how long you like to store before drinking…then go for it.
If your becoming a serious collector, or need to protect a valuable bottle or two, I’d go for a more expensive, bigger unit, because you will be happier in the long run.

Episode #74…Comment #43 is where I ask the question and there are a lot of answers after that.
    Good luck
