Oh wait, I’m a couple years too late.
Love Chablis by the way but until I had it recently, I used to think it was cheap garbage, so never bought it before, what a mistake.

The green screen, the headset, the crew, the multiple cameras. This can only mean one thing:

    Wine Library…The Movie

Question is, who will play Gary?

QOTD: Gary, there can be only one choice. The Meadowlands!

  • Matty Van

GV way to twist the knife deep into my bills fan heart, now I really hope the bills spank your jets at the meadow lands later this year so I can make you cry like my bitch. The jets played a good game…they won, they outplayed the bills and I can respect them for that.

Three god damns and an OJ referance..wow

Who would play Gary in the WLTV movie???….my vote is for Fred Savage, anyone else have any thoughts?

QOD – the only obvious answer is NYC, much cheaper to get his wine and staff to the location.

QOD – My house! It would put an end to the “east coast” – “west coast” banter. Austin, Texas – equal distance for everyone to travel – except, of course, for those of us already in Texas…
Other great reasons to choose AUSTIN-
    It’s the best city ever
Every drunken, partying idiot in the world is not going to Austin for New Year’s – they’re headed to NYC OR SF
    Excellent weather (usually)

To add onto yesterday’s great comment regarding “dance with the one who brought you” – I agree. Plus, I did some price comparisons on a few GV picks, from recent WLTV episodes, that I could actually find in my city and here’s what I found:
    A. Mann Gewertsteimer (sorry, no spellcheck in the comment box) – $22.99 vs. $15.99 WL
Casa Julia Merlot – $13.79 vs. $9.59 WL
Ben Marco Malbec – $18.99 vs. $15.99 WL
    Nora Albarino – $14.99 vs. $11.99 WL
So, even with the $3/bottle shipping (per case to my state), the WL price is STILL equal to or better than what I’d pay locally.
    The spreadsheet is GREAT.

Fred Savage!! That was VERY funny, Matty Van!

Re the real QOD – Why not have the party on-site at Wine Library? After the last episode, we’ll all have a pretty good idea of how to get there.

Thanks, Gary, for the sobering acknowledgement that marketing plays a significant role in what we think about wines…Chablis is a perfect example. Without your enthusiastic recommendation, I might have been afraid to try the Droin.

P.S. Steve from Blues Clues wants his shirt back…

Allright…I’ll change my vote from bowl game to San Francisco…just for all the Californians out there. Actually…the more I think about it, the more SF makes total sense. I say, if it’s in SF…the Cali boys will bring the good shit!…I’m in for a special bottle!

Gary, Great lively show on white burgundy. seems like you had a few “energy drinks” today. The show was an area I’m not overly familiar with and this should help. Those jug wines ruined a number of names beside chablis such as Rhine, Burgundy and Sauternes. Looking forward to the 100 show !

    Gary,

Great episode. I started watching about a month ago. A co-worker (I’m also in the industry) referred me to your site. I think your providing a great service. Especially when you pan a wine that you sell. Although, I don’t always agree with you (I’m a sliver more traditional than you) I agree with you most of the time.

The White Burgundy Episode finally got me to comment. Thank you for pointing out to others that there IS great Chardonnay out there, and that it’s not always a glass of hot Land ‘O Lakes with vanilla syrup in it. I too have had mixed results with Fracois [Fran-Swah] Jobard.

Don’t worry the Bears will beat the Giant (who I assume you hate) in the NFC Champonship before facing the Jets in the Super Bowl….yeah right!

A fellow wine and football fan from Chicago,

HEEEYY YOOOOO!!! Gary…..its obvious where the party should be held…..in New York City. It seems as though most of your fans live in NYC or it surrounding areas. Oh, and I am gonna bring the good stuff to the party baby….two buck vaynerchuck, carlo rossi, fetzer (yea the box one), and yellow tail….and to top it off, we will celebrate with some good bubbly..nothing else but Korbel…..and I will be there in my GIANT jersey. Yea yea yea let me hear it Gary….tell you the truth, I’m not much of a football fan, I’m a huge Yankee fan. Can someone say Jeter for MVP and the Yankees in ’06……

Oh and by the way for those of you who don’t understand scarcasm, I was kidding about all those CRAP wines…

If it’ll brighten my day like that, I’m having me some Chablis for breakfast.

So above and beyond watching the Jets pull one out, did you also take vicarious pleasure in watching the Giants get absolutely steamrolled?

I’ll be in on Saturday for the Droin. I need it after yesterday. But there is one thing I always have believed when it comes to sports – It’s never as bad as you think and it’s never as good as you think. QOW8 – Which MAC QB will have a bigger game? Which one will have more completions over 5 yards? Will one of them be holding the clipboard with his sore shoulder?

Watch out for the Browns…they know they should have won yesterday and their pissed. They are pissed and their coming for da raiders.

I looked at Episode #27 and #28 again. I really like the side by side comparisons. I think there is more to be learned from side by side comparisons than from serial tastings. Get four glasses and pour each one. Make color comparisons. Do the smelling before the tasting. Rank them by color and smell before doing the tasting. Then rank them again after the tasting. At the end make a value to price comparison.

I have a Mile High Stadium Tours sign on the wall.

first of all, HERCULEAN effort by Chris. Many thanks.

I love NYC, but if you want a real party: LAS VEGAS BABY! My new family and I may be moving there for business, but there is no better place to have a party.

When your family started WL, was it as big as it is now? Can someone do well with a small retail store?

    GO JETS. “J” “E” “T” “S”, JETS JETS JETS!

What’s with the green screen? Is it Studio 60 on the Springfield Strip?

Hmm… WLTV party in January… Super Bowl in January… I think it’s gotta be Miami, where DA BEARS will certainly be playing… maybe against the JETS? GV, you better hold off on making those January plans, your team could be in the PLAYOFFS!

OK, forget about that suggestion. Obviously the place to be is Chicago… we are the middle of the country, easiest proximity for everyone, we got TimF and Tony S and other Chicagoans who I’m sure we’ll step up with me and host it in style

If the Jets keep winning I’m gonna have to get a bigger hard drive… such enthusiasm, and 60MBs on this episode (and i think it was almost 20 mins long)… nice work GV!

    GARY,

Many thanks to you, John Kassimatis and especially Brian Woolley for getting the Spreadsheet up and running. There are a few minor clitches, but it looks GREAT. Also thanks for the nice compliments.

HOWEVER, I DO HAVE A BONE TO PICK. You suggested adding the “non-recommended” wines to the spreadsheet saying that,”we don’t want to make it seem like it’s only the good stuff.” You know I’m your biggest fan, but I STRONGLY disagree. This is exactly what WLTV is all about…the wines either get the VaynerNOD or they don’t. Certainly, that is was precisely what the initial intent was when creating the spreadsheet (I even named it “The Chuk’s Greatest Hits Spreadsheet”).

This will also double the size of the spreadsheet (which is already pretty sizeable) with wines that you’ve not recommended, not to mention double the work. Remember, that people can always go back and view the episodes where, by the way, ALL of the wines are still listed underneath each episode. Also what would I put in the Tasting Notes/Comments section “This wine sucked”, “bad effort”? I could be wrong, but I think most WLTV Viewers are looking for the sheet with ONLY VaynerNODed wines. I’m hoping I’ve convinced you..let me know.

Fellow WLTVer’s, please chime in with your opinions. Respectfully, Chris

P.S. Nice 1st comment#34 from one of my BEST friends, Jeff Cast

  • Chris…I’m certainly not buying the wine Gary says pass on. I think your DB takes it a step further by narrowing down to the good stuff, however, it may open the eyes of some by letting them know what not to buy as well as what to buy. I think it will also educate some on the way that bad wine tastes, or what to look for in say, a corked wine. I’m torn cause I REALLY only want to know what Gary thinks is a good buy / must buy, but what if Gary panned something I bought and I wasn’t sure about? I would want to know what his explanation was so I could then try to make a more educated assesment of the wine.

Either way….your DB is what makes wine communities such a great thing to be a part of…thanks for the hard work!

    A Party.
Must be in Manhattan, for sure.

Gary, this question has been on my mind for a month. During the decanting episode, you said that more time cannot hurt the wine. Is this only the case for young wines, because I’ve come across some things that say mature wine should only be decanted for a moment.
    Thanks, Sean

I say you have the tasting right in the store. What better place is there than in the Wine Library?

Gary, I’m a NJ guy who is living in Maine right now. If you come up here I would be more than happy to show you a good time and make sure you have the best lobster of your life! Here you can eat the lobster that was caught the same day.

    Hi Gary,
Thanks for the great episodes! I’m really looking forward to the “100th” in a few days. Maybe you could recommend some wines for an Oktoberfest party I’m hosting this weekend. I have a few beers lined up for the appitizers, but I’d love to hear some ideas for wines to serve with dinner. Maybe some authentic German Reislings, Gewurtztraminers, Gruner Vetliners, or anything else you think would pair well, or other suggestions for wines from the region that are less well known. Thanks for taking the time, you’re the best!
    Sue
PS Are you now grouping the lurkers with us trollers?

    Gary,

I asked this question a week or two ago but didn’t get an answer (or comments from any other WLTV reader). My question is… is Napa/California killing the wine market due to glut and over priced wine coming out of Calf. I want to know what you think, are Calf. wines overpriced and do you think they are going to kill the wine market?

Hi Gary – I knew you would be in a very good mood today. I do hope you refrain from using the GD’s in the future, they are hard for me to listen to.
I am surpised you didn’t taste the very popular under $20 Louis Jadot white burgundies. I am a big fan – especially the Pouilly Fouisse. I would have liked to know how your opinion compares to mine.
For QOD – how about Hoboken, NJ? Easy public transit ride for New Yorkers, easy to get to for people flying in to Newark airport, and less hassle for NJ people (no tunnel/bridge/ferry crossings or ridiculous parking charges).

I just have to give my Bengals a mention after all that ranting about the Jets. 3-0 with a little revenge win against the stinkin’ Steelers on Sun.
NYC sounds good to me for a party. I’m sure you know all the spots, Gary.

  • Gary, I have an idea…figure out where the party is going to be and let me know ASAP. I only have so many buddy passes and want to make sure that I have one saved for this!!! Hell yeah! Finally a party for the WLTV Fanatics! I am there no matter where!
Great episode today. I was waiting for something to show up in the back ground like you were tasting “in Bordeaux” or something. Ha!
Great spreadsheet/web page. I think it will be very beneficial for everyone. I post your tasting notes on my bottles purchased from Wine Library on Cellar Tracker (www.cellartracker.com).
BTW collectors…Cellar Tracker is awesome. It is a donation based cellar inventory website that blows any store bought program out of the water…and it is donation based $aving you money.
Did anyone see my Falcons last night? Wow…if the Jets ever play like that I hate to think of what the next day’s WLTV episode will be like. Gary might just tape a show from the roof of the building throwing “jug” wine at the traffic below!
So Gary…let us know ASAP about the WLTV party and I will be there. Of course you know that we the posting Fanatics will NOT let you forget about the party…or the “heat episode”…EVER!!!!
Chris, I may be with BrandonM on the point of opening up the horizons of “bad” wines to people. It seems (as you may have noticed in my post/rant last episode) that many people don’t understand the bad points of wine; only that it “tastes bad” or someone said it was bad. Soooo, I don’t know. The extra work might be worth it to some (me…I watch every episode so I’m not too concerned). But you really did put a great effort into the spreadsheet and it shows. Thank you so much for your contribution. My glass is raised to you………….and SPACE.
