OK…here is an idea.
Everyone that thinks they have what it takes should come up with a t-shirt design with what ever VaynerName they are, then we can all have a demo or a few demo shirts made on our own and we can show them off at the parties. Then if we have a few we can trade them and share our stories with each other at the parties kind of like trading your jersey with your opponent after a soccer game. That would make all of us do a little work and take the shirt design and upfront cost off of BrandonM. It is great that he is willing to do the work but we should contribute.
Then after the parties we will have pictures of shirts and stories to go with them. We can then try another vote to decide which shirt we would all like to have and sport on the streets. Because no matter how cool the VaynerName might end up being, the shirt might end up looking like (and maybe smelling like) crap and only wine should SMELL like crap 😉
BTW…I am going to do this no matter what and I will have shirts of my own come party time!!! I look forward to trading a shirt or two with some other people as well.

I agree that the sudden jump in Wine Librarian votes is suspicious. I think we may have had two people stuffing the ballot box – one (not so smart) for Vayniacs, and another (smarter, using real-looking email addresses) for Wine Librarians.

Brandon, you didn’t happen to capture the IP address of each voter did you? That might simplify the process of determining which votes are ballot stuffers.

We may end up having to take this to the Supreme Court.

Oh, and Wine Librarians on a t-shirt is lame. Vayniacs is far more clever…and cooler.

Obviously, I’m glad you finally got around to doing the Burg episode. I do however, have some seious nits to pick. To all of you out there, do not buy any of the wines on this episode. First of all, aside from the 2000, they are from a freakish year that gives a completely atypical sense of what Burgundy is about. Second of all, they are all pretty mediocre producers (well, Gouges is pretty good, and Magnien can be good on occasion). Third, these wines are badly overpriced. Gary is right. Burgundy is a crap shoot as anyone who has ever tried anything on a whim knows. And the more you spend the more likely you are to get burned. That being said, there is a lot of very mediocre, not to say bad very very very expensive bordeaux, napa valley wine and so forth–and don’t get me started what passes for wine coming out of places like auz. No, if you want to try burgundy, look for, for example, some of the 2002 beaunes coming from Jadot, or something like the 2001 Matrot Blagny which can be found for a song if you look around–wines that will cost you 20-30 bucks. 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004 all have some interesting wines (though the 2004 reds are proving to have some screetchy acidity–the whites are classics) that are worth looking for. But look in santenay, marsanay, beaune, and other smaller appelations. Learn to like to stuff. It will often be very light (not have “great color”) quite high, or very high, in acidity, incredible food wine, and when you get to know it, the kind of elegant thought provoking beverage that Gary speaks of–just not the wines he tried which all sound like syrah in a pinot wrapper. Few burgs tend to have power or color associated with them (though they occasionally do). Perfume, high-toned, terroir, mineral etc those are terms I hope for. Again, delighted it happened, disappointed at the choices and don’t agree with the assessments. Can’t have it all. And as the man says, you have to decide for yourself.

I then voted for Vaynerchucklers and wondered where the nominated names not using the Vayner prefix were. I posted this question. Brandon then within an hour posted that the full list we subsequently used as a ballot was now available.

For the remainder of the election period I posted a few comments with each succeeding episode, all containing the hyperlink to the polling site, quippish comments in support of Wine Librarians or Terroirists all in the spirit of fun. I openly admitted in one comment about the voting process, when Brandon brought up the issue of bogus emails, that I had invited some friends and family to support my choices and check out WLTV. I know we picked up a few new viewers as a result. Brandon quite satisfactorily explained the nature of the bogus email addresses.

With the sending of my Email to family and friends I only hoped to get Wine Librarians and Terroirists in the Top 5. At that point Vayniacs was running well ahead. I didnâ??t send another Email to gain more support, and was happy to let the electoral chips fall where they willed.

The big influx of votes came on Saturday afternoon.

All the â??sociopathâ? stuff came two days after the balloting ended, in response to Vayniac-whining about Wine Librarians not being belligerently aggressive enough name. I guess out of a fear that someone in a biker bar would attack a Wine Librarians shirt wearer ordering Opus One because they would be perceived as weak. My advice – donâ??t wear a Wine Librarian shirt, or order Opus One in a biker bar.

The possibility does exist that Wine Librarians is the electoral choice of people who come without commenting to WLTV for information about wine, coupled with the convenience of having the wine actually available for sale at a competitive price. Not because GV antics about the Jets or the Yankees, or blood sport banter. Instead they just tolerate that stuff to get at the wine information. Maybe what happened in this election was that rationality prevailed.

Most of the use of Vayniac came from than a dozen or so people using it constantly. That strikes me as the more Rovian approach – an endless calliope of echo chamber effect talking points from one source. Repetition is one mark of â??The Big Lie.â?

I did not stuff the ballot box, and furthermore I wouldnâ??t have if I could have. In fact, when it looked like Wine Librarians was going to lose I researched the horses that ran behind Secretariat in the 1973 Belmont – 31 lengths behind. If Wine Librarians had lost I wouldnâ??t have whined. I am not that invested.

To add a little something to what phig said, there are some great values in Burgundy as you go south of the Cote d’Or to the Cote Chalonnaise and specifically Rully and Givry.

It seems to me that most who actually puts time into posting likes Vaniacs, and it did recieve a TON of legitimate votes. I’m doing shirts no matter what the only question now is Vaniacs or Wine Librarians, and I think I know the answer.

I have gone through the DB with a fine tooth comb, and the votes for Wine Librarians look pretty legitimate. They are not all AOL, HOTMAIL, and the like. They are actually from private companies, public companies, government sites, and private home sites as well. I can email all of them and ask for a response, but I think that violates the “Email only for voting” rule. I CANNOT stand spam and do not want to become a part of it.

Here’s what I’ll do….TWO SHIRTS….that should solve it…Wine Librarians Vs. Vaniacs…hell lets have a football game!
Now I have allready recieved some great designs for Wine Librarians, so this tells me there are A LOT of people who REALLY want it….I haven’t recieved any design ideas for vaniacs, not that I’m asking for them, but the wine librarian crowd seems a bit more motivated.

After reading my previous post I realized that I may have alienated all those viewers who don’t neccesarily post. These may be the voters who want Wine Librarians so I do need to take it in to consideration in my decision. Again, as MarcT said, this is my decision for the shirts I am producing, you can certainly make your own if you want, it would be fun to trade!

Kudos on getting Elaine Bracco. She was one of the judges on the finale of the show “Top Chef” and they featured her wines during the competition.

Questions:

As to today’s episde. Why is there such a delta, in terms of price, between Burgundy and Pinot Noirs from other regions of the world?

Another question. Say your on the run, and not near a wine store. You find a liquor store that has a decent amount of wine in many varietals, but none made by producers you recognize beyond the â??training wheelâ? brands like Turning Leaf, etc. What is your suggestion for finding/picking out a nice bottle of wine when youâ??re in a pinch?

Last question: What producer, or producers, do you think do the best job producing multiple varietals? You’ve had several vineyards on some of your earlier shows.

Holy smokes… cage match! Vayniacs vs wine librarians! $50 a ticket $100 for VIP. This is crazy people, I am sure you could make both t-shirts, couldn’t you? I for one think Vayniacs makes more sense because it reflects on the host of the show. Like for fans of Bob Barker (price is right) you wouldn’t name is fan club the price is righters…you would have something involving his name to show that you support what he is doing.

Though wine librarians does come off snobby, I would still wear the shirt. Mainly because people would ask what it is about and I could direct them to our wonderful obsession. Regardless we need to remember that this is about fun right? As long as people are paying for the shirts what difference does it make what it says on the front/back

Here is a question for all of you.

Recently I purchased a $30 bottle of wine and a $10 bottle of wine for bbq that I was attending with some great friends. They were both Cabs and we were looking to see which one we like better. The most frustrating thing in the world was after decanting them for about 2 hours the $10 bottle tasted like a champ while the $30 bottle was more suited for watering the plants. So here is my question to all of you Vayniacs/wine librarians. Have you ever had a situation like this that you were so disappointed that you were turned of from the $30 bottle’s maker for quite some time? I don’t know if I will be purchasing from them for awhile…however like gary says…it might have been the bottle.

I loved the episode. They are the most serious wines on the planet. Yes they are an expensive crap shoot, but like you said they’re worth every penny when you hit a great one.

I like Tony S. would pick Burgundy as well if I had to be stuck with one area for the rest of my life.
