I bought some of the ’02 Oroppas from WL a few months ago but haven’t tried any yet. I’ll probably get some 03’s as well. I doubt the 03’s will age as well as the ’02’s but I think you’d get 4-6 years out of them. Gary?

The 2000 Barolo’s and Barbaresco’s are becoming a freek show. Every one I’ve tasted was disjointed and dumb. I think Daniel Tomases has it right. I’d love to be proved wrong but, for my bone$, the 1998 and 1999 vintages are the nuts. Have a good weekend all.

I was shocked by Spectator’s ratings of Cali Cabs a couple issues ago. Dominus ’03 mid-eighties, ’03 Hourglass 87 points, and 2002 Montelena 70 some points. Do you think Laube is tryign to send a signal to the old California gaurd with these ratings? Can you taste a Montelena 2002 Estate for us and rate it? I had a 2002 Montelena a few months ago, and didn’t find it life-changing – but it certainly wasn’t a under-80 point wine!

Great opening, awesome ending. I’m going to have to try the Oroppas. It’s as close as I’ll ever come to an Opus or Insignia. I just can’t bring myself to fork out so much cash. Plus that, my hubby would totally freak. Thank you, Gary, for the info.
