Gary, thanks for having C.P. on today. I’ve missed your having guests and look forward to tasting Mountford, Any plans to stock Mount Eyre, his other gig?

  • Flemboy

    Gary,
Nice episode. I have tried the 02 Chard and it was equally as wonderful. I had no idea the quality of wine that NZ is capable. Probably one of the best chards I have ever tasted.

    Kepp those guests coming!

Great episode today! I reaaly like the idea of the guest, especially the unique winemakers. It adds a great dimensions to the broadcast as when can we sit down with a winemaker, let alone a special one. We can when you have a guest on WLTV. We have enjoyed a New Zealand SB as it was one of the first wines that rocked my taste buds.

  • Paul

Thanks, Gary. My pic was on the video!! Again!
Loved the interview with CP. Gary, please give the Vayniacs a shot at his PN. Maybe even put a limit on bottle allotment so that we can all taste – spread the good word/juice.

Was that a real Wine Sensei?…:)

Great episode GV, C.P. seems like a very interesting fellow and I would like to try his wines. You must have had fun hanging out with him.

Excellent episode. I wasn’t previously familiar with Mountford, but it sounds excellent. CP’s world view was very refreshing to hear, and his love for his craft seemed quite genuine. Thanks for bringing him on!

  • CP was definitely a great guest. I’m still in shock about the whole ‘Monte Cristo #5’ thing. You think if you opened a bottle of the 2004 Razon Valsacro, CP would ask “who just cut open the dead deer and threw some cherries on it?”

Wow, I love this episode! I liked the little stories and the way almost dissolves into his glass of wine 🙂

He embraces it, smiling, tasting and enjoying.
@ Grasshopper: he’s a wine sensei for sure!

Low yields = the way to go imho.

Great episode! I really enjoyed listening to C.P.

So many people look down on others who don’t know much about wine. I appreciate that you are sharing your knowledge with us every day!

Great guest – as long as you know you won’t have to swallow your words along with lousy wine, keep the guest option open. It’s so enjoyable to hear interesting people share their knwoledge and love of their craft. C.P. was a true inspiration, and quite the saucy wit, too!

Again, Gary, wonderful episode. C.P. Lin appears very humble, however I bet there’s some rogue underneath, i.e., his comments about ‘women’s stockings’…loved it!!! I do have a question for him and if, in the interview, he had mentioned this, I apologize. How did he get from his native land to settle in Oz?

    Hi Gary,

C P rocks. Great insight with his world views of wines as well as food pairings. I think you should have him back every year for his take on his new releases and any new insights he may have.

Still watching everyday from Hong Kong.

Gary — great episode. I really enjoy having the guests on.

Can you do a tasting of Melville wines? Might be cool.

Gary — I just read an article in my Sunday paper about the problems Georgian winemakers are facing because of the trade problems with Russia. Previously 90% of their wine was sold in Russia. I can’t find any Georgian wines on your site! What’s the story?

Gary…THIS is what I love about WLTV. Expanding my knowledge base and being introduced to the people behind the label. This was truly a great episode. I did a search on CP Lin, and found some very interesting interviews that served as a nice complement to this episode. I’m sure you would tell us to use Yahooo-ahooo.

A question I would like to ask CP is how someone can, realistically, move into winemaking. What would he suggest as a path for someone really interested in the exploring craft?

    Cheers!

    Gary-
REALLY glad to see you interviewing wine makers again!
CP is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fabulous. He ‘sees’ and perceives better than most seeing people I know!
A truely humble wine maker. I didn’t know wine makers could be humble.
    Very cool!
I look forward to tasting Mountford wines.
    You did a great job.
    Keep up the good work.
    🙂 🙂

  • Great to be introduced to another winemaker in person. It was an enjoyable epsiode and as with many others found the insights from CP captivating.

A criticism however is that with a guest winemaker it it difficult to critically score their wine.

    Mr Gary,

What is the free shipping code for Chicago now that the Bears have beat the Jets?

Got to admit though, the Jets were looking great for the majority of the game – the Bears could not score. Jets stats were much better than the Bears for the 1st half.

    Cheers!

Ouch, I can feel your pain today, my Rams shut out along with your Jets, at least you were playing someone!

    Gary,
I imagine it would be difficult to discuss a wine with the winemaker right there, I’m married to one! You mentioned several times that the pinot was “very dry.” Is that a way of saying astringent, or perhaps tannic, without offending the winemaker? A wine can only be so dry. Once you reach the point where there is no sugar, that is as dry as it can get.

First time poster….Been watching WLTV for a couple of weeks now and checked out alot of the past episodes. Im was an instant fan. Definately a cool episode and just amazing in itself that there is a blind wine maker. And i like the Kenny Onish shout out, my uncle worked for his mother in the 70’s and 80’s

Gary, sorry about the Jets dude.

“A criticism however is that with a guest winemaker it it difficult to critically score their wine.”

Christopher’s comment is totally valid, though I really appreciate you trying out having guests again. I see where you’re coming from having someone on that you pretty much know you’re going to like their wines (though of anyone it seems like C.P. would be open to criticism). You should know though that I for one look forward to the day when you have to trash a wine in front of someone. As much as that would suck for you, your candor is one of the things that makes WLTV great. Just know that if that moment ever comes, whatever the wine maker’s reaction, you’ve got my support. 🙂

QOD: My favorite winery that comes to mind is Rusack (http://www.rusackvineyards.com/) It’s a boutique winery in the Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara region. I visited a number of the Santa Barbara wineries last year, sort of following the trail featured in Sideways, and at the end of the day, we had dinner at The Hitching Post. I loved Rusack. Their wines are outstanding, and their picnic area is just perfect and wonderful to sit down, enjoy wine, and life itself. Their Pinot Noir is truly delicious. Wish Gary tasted one of their wines one of this days. 🙂
