Good episode. I find Grüner Veltliner to be almost as versatile with food as Riesling. Too bad the lower priced Grüner Veltliners didnâ??t work out. Huber makes some good lower priced GV. Be on the lookout for them.

QOTD: Roger Federer. We’re also enjoying an ice/sleet/snow storm here in Indy. Fortunately most folks played it safe and stayed off the roads today.

I love the gruner! I lived in Austria for a while and became a mainstay in Wachau. Willi Brundlmayer is also making some killer wines! FX Pichler as well.

Why not do shows from London? You can buy the wines at Berry Brothers for Farr and get serious! Maybe you could raid Berry and get some 19th century claret.

For your one year anniversary, go back and re-taste the same wines you did originally. Don’t watch the shows, don’t look at your notes. Just taste.

Great show Gary! I have never tried a Groovy wine before, but now I will. London is a great town and the beer ain’t bad either, so check it out.

Johnny Mac hands down. Being a fellow lefty tennis player myself, I was inspired as a kid to pick up the game and I still play competitively.

Gotta love the Thomas Muster call-out! That dude is such a stud, taken out of the sport due to a terrible accident but worked his way back in and was a master on the clay courts! I remember seeing pictures of him standin on the court, with one leg proped up on a table while he hit forehands for practice and wishing that I was that tough. However, favorite tennis player……..Michael Chang.

My guess is GV has the phones in to hear what the mic picks up, like, uh, a rock star. They use the phones to hear the output from the mixing desk and to filter out other noise. GV might be trying to filter out the birds……..

Do an episode from London! You could send it back to Jersey via FTP. That would be the perfect way to celebrate WLTV’s anniversary. The first episode shot from outside the country.

Agree 100% with Eric S. about Gabrielle Sabatini though all-time my faves have to be Chrissy Evert and Bjorn Borg. I’ll never forget those classic matches with Johnny Mac and Jimmy Connors.

First Gruner was from Nigl–purchased from Wine Library 2-3 years ago. Was very good–thought it was similar to Reisling which is my favorite white. Good show–learned a lot.

Favorite tennis player is John Newcombe,although the days of McEnroe and Borg and Breakfast at Wimbledon were outstanding. I’m dating myself.

Have fun in London–best city in the world.

GruVee is a difficult wine to taste as a stand alone I think, it often comes off as very sour and mineral driven for many people, but with food, INCREDIBLE!

Brandon, I was not sure what you meant. Do you mean a reality show of Gary….like a day in the life? Or a montage of the past year….a best of the year?

alternate idea:
In the very first episode, Gary mentions that the Verite Ja Joie is in the class of Harlan, Bryant, etc. He also mentions a similar comparison of the Togni a few episodes back. How about a BLIND tastingt of ’02 Harlan, ’02 Togni, and ’02 Verite and see if Harlan can break out of that, very magnificent pack….and answer once and for all, if Harlan is worth the money!
