    Joe,

Actually, I said that the ’68 Vina Valoria was the NEXT Spanish Wine I would be opening. It won’t be until next week.

I live in New Mexico, and I haven’t heard from any lurkers in my neighborhood.

QOTD: I’m going to have to go native and say Vijay Amritraj. Got to support the mother country, “what can brown do for you,” etc. He never had the stamina, but he was a classy player who beat Connors, McEnroe, and Borg in their primes. Add to that his ATP tour presidency, Davis Cup play, and he was good to his little bro Anand, who could swing the stick himself.

And to top it off, the man was was in Octopussy! ‘Nuff said.

GroÃ?es Erscheinen! (Great show) Headphones? That’s my first observation but most importantly, one of my most fav wines. I was introduced to this wine at my favorite restaurant in DC (actually VA) that featured Gruners at a cooking demo I attended. My fav Gruner: Anton Bauer though I will order some skjdd you just reviewed. I like the Pichler bottle though not a fan of watermelon. Interesting.

QOTD: Ohmigosh! Favorite tennis player of all time. Well, being the tennis freak/aficionado that I am, hands down it’s JC, a la Jimmy Connors. Not that he was the best of all time though his record says he is, the best I’ve seen has to be Bjorn Borg though Federer is amazong me each time he plays. Bets female: Gabriela Sabatini. She puts Sharapova to shame.

Also, why not film some short snippets of your travels. I’m a travel guy and would love to see London again.

Last but not least, I would adopt a lurker. That would be fun.

    Auf Wiedersehen!

    For the men’s game:

Definitely Jimmy Conners- feisty, made the two handed backhand and metal racquet popular, colorful,
great for the ratings/tennis and like, wine library TV, changed everything.

    For the women’s game:
Anna Kournikova- never won much of anything but who cares!

“Instead of the lion, the tin man, and the scarecrow, we’re gonna meet the dragon, the vampire and Frankenstein.” Truly a classic Vaynerquote.

Thanks for the Veltliner tasting, I’ve enjoyed the few I’ve had, definitely need to try some more. Austrian reds- not so much, though I’m sure some good ones exist.

QOD: Arthur Ashe, not only for being a great player, but for breaking down barriers and being a positive social activist.

Never had a grooy…Maybe I will pick one up on Sat. at the shop. Love a little frizz in my whites.

MONICA SElES- When she grunts as shes hitting the ball, forgetabouit…lets leave it at that.

  • I’m willing to adopt or sponsor a lurker. Last summer I paired a Gruner Veltliner with some salad nicoise. Tuna. Grilled romaine. Peppery white. Fan-freakin’-tastic.

What to do while you’re in London?
Here’s what I say: do a really FANTASTIC, blow-us-out-of-the-water type of episode the day before you leave. Then the Vayniacs will have plenty to discuss and dissect in the forum to keep them at least moderately busy. And to keep us lurkers amused listening in.
What that episode ends up being, of course, is up to you. (a blind tasting of pinot noirs in paper bags? Watching you distiguish a 2000 from a 2005 bordeaux without knowing ahead of time?)

Then just put up random, you-tube videos up on your website for the diehards that have to watch something while you’re gone. I’m sure Erik can find some. He’s one of those video editor types, isn’t he?

Brandon, you’re right – that would be a killer show!

GeneV: I like your wine-style. You sound like you know your way around more than a few wine regions. Are you more “old world” than “new world”? Another question: Is California (or Bordeaux) Cab built to last anymore (are you cellaring anymore – or buying and drinking)? I am serious. Lately I find even the great lables (Staglin, Leoville Barton) immensely enjoyable/drinkable now and wonder if my cellar was innappropriately stocked for the aging paradigms of 70’s rather than the millenium.

Count me in. I am all about being someones “role model/big bro”. Please do not hold me legally/financially responsible for any behaviors that may be modeled. Also, I shall not be held responsible for any massive “head ach” following any sort of tasting of mass quantities of wine!!

if heâ??s gonna be in London on business, make a video montage of it and make that the one year anniversary video. Gary could do some great things while in London and we could get a sneak peek at one of his business trips. I know he did it before but I think theyâ??ve learned a few things since the last time. I bet it would kill!

    Brandon M,
    Fabulous idea!
I know he did a montage of Spain – that was great!
A montage of his London trip would
    ROCK!

Went to my first tennis tournement at a local St. Louis country club as a kid; saw Pancho Gonzalez (the McEnroe of his time), Ken Rosewall (nice, classy guy), Butch Bucholtz and Rod Laver. (Showing my age here.) All the players partied with the locals every night; they weren’t making much money, so might as well get a free meal and drinks. Rod Laver was the greatest. Period.

Runners up: Borg, Conners. Worst influence on the game: McEnroe. Best match: Borg v. Gerulaitis at Wimbledon. Player I most liked to watch for technique: Steffi Graf. For looks: Sabatini. — Mark B

John McEnroe or McNasty. The guy was great.

thanks for a nice surprise on the gruner veltliner. they accidently dropped off for me a couple of years ago. i’ll be exploring them again soon.

while your gone i would love to see some wine producers talk about the wines they drink outside of their own. i always find great restaurants by asking chefs where they eat.

Bjorn Borg no doubt. i was just learning to play as a kid in the seventies and dreamed of winning wimbledon someday and falling to my knees on the grass the way he did so many times. connors and agassi in a tie for second. gotta love the passion of those guys.

I prolly need to watch this episode again, but did I hear about free shipping or something?
Also, about the lurker situation. From the perspective of a recovering lurker, I’m currently taking donations to support the brady’s wine experience fund! Any takers?
QOTD: Anna…and it’s all about her backswing 😛

Thanks for the heads up on Gruner Veltliner.

Famous Tennis Player: Pancho Gonzales — the best male player in tennis history, primarily because he was the World No. 1 tennis player for probably 8 years (in the 50’s). Gorgo, the nickname by which he was known by his colleagues on the pro tour, was a hamburger and hot dog guy and had no concept of diet and training. On the court Gorgo would down Cokes through a match. Also, Gorgo was a pretty heavy cigarette smoker and had terrible sleeping habits. Sounds like my college experience minus the tennis!

I’d be glad to adopt a lurker. My cousin’s husband, with whom I drink wine, is a lurker. (Come on, David, come out, come out wherever you are.) Come on, lurker. I know you’re there. Find me on the WLTV Forum!!
