Great Episode. I enjoy learning about the places that wine comes from. It gives me some context when I am enjoying them. Though it took me two days to watch because the first time I only got halfway through before the connection gave up entirely.

Great episode. You must go back to try more of the ’06 in a year or so. If you want company, I’d be happy to volunteer!

Finally sitting down to watch this… I didn’t expect to enjoy it anywhere as much I did. Fantastic! Thank you so much for doing this. Also, thanks to your cameraman for setting up the various shots outside, as well. Very different, but good all the same. Looking forward to watching part II later tonight.

Also, to chime in with Colleen, if you decide you need a chaperon next year, I’m probably free. I can speak a couple dozen lines of French (all with a fantastic American tourist accent) and look great in a beret…

Gary, been waiting for your Bordeaux episodes for weeks now, glad to see its finally here. Nice tour of the chateaus. Like some comments, listening it through headphones certainly helped. Even then sometimes it was very hard to pick up what was being said even for someone who is resonably familiar with the French accent.

Suggestion (for the future), would be great if you could either include a quick summary after each Chateau, run through some of the wines and your comments. Eg: At le Gay, I couldnt catch the other wines apart from Montviel and Le Gay itself. Alternatively you could devote a future episode to summarise both episodes and draw the highlights and lowlights together.

QOTD: I love how you ran around looking for a spit bucket at Margeaux and ended up spitting in the sink. I like the fancy title screens. Fascinating episode, and I’m impressed with the production value. The poster who suggested a soundtrack reminds me of an executive producer from bad network television – don’t do it. More commenting from you would have been welcome, but I love the verité aspect also. Well done.

First off, I’d like to say this was an awesome episode, but then again, from what I’ve started seeing, there aren’t really any bad ones. This is my first post, just came across you three days ago, and I’ve managed to spend all three nights up till 5am (EST) watching you, all the while knowing that I should be in bed as I have to work. My question to you is (which I believe should probably be in the question section), are the ’05 Bordeaux Premier Cru’s (in your professional opinion) something worth buying for a normal consumer of wine (not a collector), or am I better off taking advantage of the excellent vintage on the whole, by getting some values from the second and third growths? (I can dream about Petrus, Le Pin and D’Yquem, but thats about as far as I get)

What a great job you have Gary. It’s interesting to see the process of how wines actually make it to the shelf. One suggestion: next time, mike up all the people speaking – it was really hard to hear what was being said. Otherwise, great episode.

Very informative. Would have been better had the sound quality been higher, but that would be tough. It is interesting to see the different styles of the different chateaus and winemakers/directors. It would be cool to see a wine buying trip to other areas as well (Cali, Spain, etc.)

You look like you have a very tough job.

Very interesting to hear how the wineries talk about their wines and their land. They take great pride in both.

SOund quality definitely leaves something to be desired. One more set of lav mic’s would have improved the show greatly. Remember, Eric Anderson Productions is right around the corner if you need things shot. Will work for wine!!!!!!!

Awesome episode – I’m looking forward to part 2!! It was really cool to see how close the vineyards are together. But I wonder if Gary thinks Petrus is a better wine than Le Gay. Not qpr wise – but just overall if it’s better.
