Are you still reading comments, GaryVee? I discovered these videos and decided to watch from EP 1! Thanks for the education.
New to wines, so I haven’t yet tried a Barolo.
Read today that cork’d has croaked. LOL! Too bad, but created an account with cellar tracker.

  • Alas, I wasn’t able to make the long haul down to San Francisco, so I’m up here in Mendocino wishing I was still flying high on a night of wine. Next time, next time…

QOTD: A knock-your-socks-off-spicy Penne all’Arrabiata, paired with either a good Barossa Valley Estate Shiraz (2002?) or, if I’m staying a bit cheaper, a big juicy Barbera d’Alba (2001 Boroli, maybe); if I’m staying local, which I do try to do, either a Copain or Fife Syrah. Yum!

  • Hi Gary,

I’ve only tried Barolo a couple of times. Here in Ireland the biggest turn-off is the price-tag which you mention in your vidyo.

However, there’s a great wineshop near the office (enowine) which has a cool set-up with a vending-machine, gas thingey going on where you can have a taster of a lot of the wines they stock for only 1 euro a pop. They have about 50 bottles open at a time so a great way to compare and contrast the wines in one sitting (like you do above).

In fact, I’m going to swing by it on the way home to see if they’ve any Barolo open.

PS. opened a great Spanish from Bierzo last night called Tilenus. (Grape: Mencia). Worth a look along with the wines from Ribera del Duero and Toro. So I’ve broken my commitment to whites for the month of June but kept my committment to commenting!

Big CK shout out! Too bad I can’t afford barolo. 🙁 .Glad to see another episode on Italian wines, though. I know almost nothing about Italians except for recognizing a few names that start with B.

QOTD: Veal cannelloni and a macon villages

If nothing else, these reviews are convincing me to splurge on bottles that are beyond my normal wine budget… Here we go again.

QOTD: Tough to choose a favorite meal, but I often order the very classic veal with parma ham and mozzarella – call me boring. As for wine, my favorite Italian restaurant’s wine list can get really expensive, so I go for any red under 30 euros that the waiter (whom I trust) recommends.

Happy to say this completes my 10 cents

QOTD: Grandma’s 6 hour homemade spaghetti sauce, with an aged Merlot

PS – You are incredible (for your ego) and I am shallow (I like free stuff)!!!

Nice show Gary! I like the big “B”s quite much from Italy (no, not Berlusconi ;). Would be interesting to compare them to some great stuff from Montalcino or Tuscany.

QOTD: Pasta with a tomato based sauce and a nice Rosso di Montalcino.

    QOTD: Sausage spaghetti with Chianti.

Hmmmm.. Do you have a table in the bathroom or is the laptop on your lap at the time? One way could be very disturbing.

PS Pray for us down south in Louisiana for hurricane season!

Lurker no more! I’ve been enjoying WLTV for several months now. Gary, you’re awesome. I’ve learned and laughed along the way.

Man, this episode reminded me what a big Barolo fan I used to be. However, I stop buying them after the ’97 release due mainly to being pulled in so many different wine directions. Life was easy back then, it used to be Zins, Rioja, Cabs, Chianti and Barolos. Now is really complex after I incorporated Whites, and other varieties, just name it, is there. The good thing is that I still have several 96s and 97s, with very moldy labels, almost unreadeable, but waiting for (QOTD) those cheese raviolies with sausages in a mushroom chianti sauce.

You could have been tasting glasses of flaming lava, I didn’t hear anything after you said “free stuff”

XLNT show I love the region and these wines are huge. I agree that it is hard to get a bad wine from, which is a good thing at this pricepoint.

Penne Abbruzzi with either a barolo or a super tuscan

  • QOTD: Hands down my home made spaghetti sauce(with or without meat, usually the hottest italian sausage I can find, depending on vegeterian audience) on top of some angel hair pasta with some fresh garlic bread! It is the shiznit! I have, however, never had it with wine so I can’t answer that part of the question .. suggestions?

Cork’d: I signed up for an account and never got an activation email, it wont let me login =( I created a support ticket about 2 weeks ago, still waiting to hear back on that.

There is a reason Barolo is called “The King of Wines”
GV: Yes these wines are for special occasions but special occasions in about 2015-2020. Newbies should know thes wines are made for decadeS of cellaring.
QOTD: Barolo and Linguine with Black Truffles

  • Jay

I am going to go basic Italian and say it’s either Chicken Piccata (no egg batter).. Or Linguine with Clam sauce (white).

  • Those wine rating don’t mean much to me since I can’t compare with wines I know and and tasted before.

I guess one of the better wines I’ve tasted was the Campofiorin Ripasso Masi veronese i.g.t. 2004, anybody know how that one is rated?

    QOTD: fried zucchini flowers!
I dont know what wine would go with that, but those things are amazing. Most people have never seen a zucchini growing or its flowers… http://www.fotosearch.com/comp/BDX/BDX131/bxp28748.jpg
