    Gary, love the episode!! OK, here’s the deal. If you are tasting a wine you’ve already tasted that you’re recommending, it’s very linear. All we’re getting are the wines you like. When you’re tasting blind, not knowing the outcome, not only are you educating the masses on that particular wine ‘as is’, but your tasting is a surprise to all, and THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!! You end up critiquing the wine overall, whether you like it or not, and that’s much more educational in the long run. Just my 2 cents…

    QOTD: I’ll add to what seems to be the consensus – Keep as is.

    Several reasons:

    1. It’s more educational to see a wider range of quality. If everything is “awesome color, explosive nose, clean fruit, good structure, nice balance — this is a 90-point wine” what are we learning?
    2. It’s more fun. I play a little game as I’m watching: Guess GV’s score based on the face he makes while swishing the wine around his mouth (before he pulls his head out of the Jets spit-bucket). I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I was dead-on for the first 3 wines tonight, but off by 2 points on Marquis Philips.
    3. How much wine do you have to drink to need multiple bottles recommended by Gary every day of the week?! That’s asking a lot. Over the course of any given week, I always feel like I’ve gotten several good recommendations among the 15-20 wines he’s tasted, and that’s plenty for me.

    I’ll also add that I love the blind tasting episodes and would enjoy seeing them more often.

    I like the fact that the outcome is not assured – I’d rather you step on wine bottle shaped landmine than me :). I also agree with a lot of Jim Wilkerson’s points above.

    That being said, I can see the value of maybe the occasional episode where you would outright recommend something – maybe some insight as to what your daily drinkers are, etc.

    Keep it the same G , doing only wines you already had may make it a little to fake or sugarfied . Some of your first reactions on a wine you never had are priceless . Like some others said maybe once a week do some wines you had recently and liked . Thanks for all you do .

    QOTD: Love the current format! Very interesting and great. However, once every week or two, it would be nice to have a G’s picks show. OR even better… Wines you HATED, a “beware” show. Also fun to watch I expect.

  • QOTD: For the most part, I like the way the show is already, but, that being said, a show every now and then with a wine that you liked and would recommend would be nice. DON’T CHANGE THE SHOW, but special episodes would be cool.

    Gary: I like the current format because it keeps it/YOU fresh. Maybe on Fridays you could pick grapes or regions that are not popular. I’m a big fan of Barolo’s from Piedmont and always drank red. I just broke out and tried Gavi. I also tried Erbaluce from Italy from Ferrando, which I thought was very good.

    It is easy nowadays to pick a fruit bomb with 90 rating.

    Gary, I loved VaynerPop’s phone call. You’re blessed to still have your parents. I lost my Mom early in her life, 10 years ago, and still had a lot to learn from her.

    QOD: I love the show the way it is. It might be cool if somehow, we could know in enough time what wines you are tasting, so we could get our own and taste along with you. I learned so much in Chicago from doing just that. Kind of like the WOTM on the forums.

    I think one of the best parts about WLTV is that even though we’re not ACTUALLY tasting with you, it’s like we’re discovering things together. It’s a lot more dynamic that way. With the new cork’d integration, we can just look at your wine journal to see what you’ve liked “behind the scenes”. Besides, I learn just as much from wines you bash as from the wines you like, if not more. So, as far as what side of the fence I’ve fallen on, I suppose I never even tried climbing it in the first place. Keep it the way it is!!!
