wow a pretty bad round of wines for you today…QOTD the entire Barefoot lineup that you seem to always get from co workers as a gift.. I guess it’s the thought that counts. later

Wow! Two “wet paper” wines two days in a row!

  • It’s not cheap, it’s QPR. QPR Pinot Noir. Or maybe it’s cheap until you taste it, then you decide if it’s QPR or not.

LOL, Gary, did you taste cooking wines by accident? Sometimes you do get what you pay for. Thanks for the honesty. Yeah a corked wine happened to me once. QOTD – I bought a certain sparkling Shiraz and after about 1/2 glass poured it down the drain.

Hi Gary, nice to be back. Cheap Pinot – had mixed success, never tried any of the ones you had here, and sounds like just as well (shame about the corked). Is this the lowest average score for an episode?

I like Tyrrel’s from Australia and Cono Sur from Chile, but those are more expensive than yours. I try to spend at least 12 bones on a Pinot.

QOTD – a Sangiovese di Romagna from a local supermarket. It was wines like that which made my minimum spend at least $10.

  • jason carey

the worst i ever had and unfortunatly am still confronted with at parties is Andre “champage”
that is my all time most hated wine.

That wasn’t Thunder, that was a deluge of mediocrity. You’re a braver man than I, Vaynerchuk. Don’t ever let it be said you don’t take one (or four) for the team. Tell me, was it a Talus rep that tried to bean you with the cork at the 7:50 mark? (Nice feigning it never happened BTW).

QOTD: I can only speak from since I began keeping notes and it’s Shoofly Aussie Salute 2005 (88 pts. Josh Raynolds), I wouldn’t give it to my worst enemy. However, I have had a few that went straight down the train pre-keeping records (which were promptly and forver forgotten being the traumatic experiences they were). Godspeed.

I was not surprised by these results…it seems impossible to find a nicely valued pinot. The best I’ve found is Rex Goliath (47 Pound Rooster) Pinot Noir. Give it a whirl…not bad for under 10 bones.

A Lindemans and a Talus…I don’t like the looks of this. You’re a good man Charlie Bro…Gary Vaynerchuk.

  • Shad

Funny enough worst wine under $10 was a Pinot Noir from Alice White…bitter, bad….could barely get through it even with food.

    Any Yellow Tail red.

Castle Rock makes a killer Pinot Noir at $9.99, available at Trader Joes and other major wine outlets. I wouldn’t put it in the category of the $40 to $50 Pinots, but it is as good as most $20 Pinots I’ve tried.

Woah, that’s almost as bad as the 2-buck chuck episode. Not a bad show, just a bad experience for your palate!

QOTD: The worst has to be a Rex Goliath Cabernet Sauvignon. Ewwww! I can’t describe it adequately, but it was just…terrible. It didn’t taste spoiled or corked, it was just, bad.

  • Back in 1997 I was on a date in college and ordered a Kendall Jackson Pinot Noir. I new NOTHING about wine, but favored Pinot Noirs ever since. The worst under $10 bottle I have had was the Charles Shaw Beaujolais. I remember it from your Two-Buck Vaynerchuk episode and since it was around, had to see for myself. The action figure in underwear description you gave was dead-on.

  • Cam

    You’re a brave man, Gary!

QOTD: Whew… I can’t remember the name of the worst, but boy do I remember the taste. It was $6 for a Cab, and it was absolutely undrinkable. We couldn’t even use it to cook with (which is often what we do with wines that aren’t great). Just terrible.

  • Dominus

No surprise here. Effort alone to make pinot noir should cost at least 15 bones.

QOTD: Worst wine under $10? I’ve only had two wines under $10 that I can recall (Summerfield Chard and Sunday Mtn SB)and both were pretty good. I don’t buy or try under 10 bones wines unless they have been recommended by a friend or the G-Man.

    Cheers
