A dumb Rhein king

My ears will be ringing for the rest of the day now 😀

QOTD: I would love to. They all would need to be priced at the three buck chuck range though. Maybe that should be the cork'd contest or challenge. 365 reviews. One a day for a year. The peeps that do it, they get something special.

I agree with ktw, what a week of WLTV.

That was the best rant I have seen yet, talking about bringing the thunder. This will get my Digg (My #1)..

Before the weekend is over I will find a wine I have never had before and give it a try!

QOTD: If I could afford 365 bottles * (at least $10/bottle) = $3,560/year for wine, I’d guarantee I’m on! Hmmm… time to expand my tasting group (wine club): http://www.corkd.com/tags/amiciwineclub

OK. I must admit that I have been a “lurker” since Feb. 06. But this last episode sucked me out of my leather chair and motivated me to send a response. Gary, you put Ernest Angley to shame with your inspirational sermon. I BELIEVE! Seriously, I couldn’t agree more. It’s all about tasting and enjoying. As for the QOTD, at 365 separate bottles in one year, that’s a tough one. When I find a bottle that I like (and I can afford), I stock up. So, I doubt if I’ll make the 365 mark. But it will be fun trying. Gary, I am amazed at your determination, desire and passion to share your love of wine to the rest of the Vayniak nation. I will be visiting my daughter in camp in Pennsylvania in August and will make a point to visit Wine Library. Hope to meet you in person and extend my gratitude for your efforts.

    That was fun.

I think the last really nice sauvignon blanc I had was from Chile. With a screwcap, even. (See, I do drink them once in awhile).

So when’s Tiki Barber coming on the show?

Gary-loved this episode. I have not looked/drank at any Chile’s wines except for Don Melchor for the past five years-so you inspired me to break out of my wine comfort zone.

Your rant at the end is SPOT ON. I have been doing wine tasting/collectin for over 18 years, and the only true way to learn about wine is to actively taste (look, sniffy-sniff, taste, ponder…). Having people over (4-6-8 people-dinner parties or just drinking sessions (I am Canadian after all)) with wine as the central theme-no pretentions, no preconceptions, no worries; the only rule is sharing. You can knock off 10 wines a night easy. This way I have tasted over 400 wines a year for the past five.

Keep up the passion my man!

gOSH!… what happened on the last minutes?
Whatever that was I´ll be definitely voting for you, man!
Are you creating a new church?… I am there!

Anyway, Casa Marin is not in Casablanca it is at San Antonio, South of Casablanca. Did you try the Cartagena (the economic line of CM) Chardonnay? Great wine. Fresh and No OAK Monster there.
Paste this “-33.5240049226, -71.5449155527” on “Fly To” on Google Earth.

Still daring you to try the Familia Deicas Premiere Cru Garage.

  • WHAT AN ENDING!

Folks, if you don’t watch WLTV, check out the last few minutes of this episode to know what Gary and us Vayniacs are all about!

  • Stevo

This show gets better and better every time. 365 is a tough number to top. The most I’ve tried was about 180. Keep up the great work.

    Gary- Great show, great RANT!

QOTD- Sure thing, although I’ll likely lose count. Going to try about 10 tonight. Cheers!

WOW, that was some thunder at the end, it was awsome!!!!
QOTD- I would love to try 365 wines a year but I don’t think my wife will be too keen on a second mortgage dedicated to wine. I will probably get 50 to 75 wines in by the end of the year, I have 37 different entries in my wine journal for the year so far, that does not include wines tried a restaurants or away from home.

  • There is no way I can afford to buy a bottle a day, although I’d love to. But with that rousing speech at the end, I almost sent my credit card to Gary with a note saying just put me on the bottle-a-day list.

Best rant I’ve seen in a long time. You are definitely correct about just going out and trying different wines. Melissa needs to extend herself. If she reads this I maybe she should start with Episode 1 and work her way through the WLTV episodes. QOTD if I could finish a bottle every day I’d be up for trying a different wine every day for sure. I love wine, and thanks to WLTV and the Vayniacs it’s been a great experience.

Love the philosophy of just going out and trying wines…tried my first albarino yesterday and was really impressed. Would normally have gone with a pinot blanc or sauv blanc but am motivated to try new things. keep on the rockin the wine world Gary!!

Kool episode. Not that relaxed though. Yesterday I really had a Skittles wine, first time for me. It was the Montgras Cabernet 2005 from Chile.
QotD : I think I´ve allready tasted 300 + wines this year, this week 7, but thats far from enough for me. All I´m trying to do is actually to try new ones.

    Thanks

    Holy cow!

I scrolled through some of the comments this morning, and just caught the show this evening. Fucking right on! This is exactly the kind of passion the wine world needs to get beyond the (stuffy) Parker’s and Spectators ‘fifteen-point’ (85-100) world we are living in now. Wine is so much more than “91 points -Parker”. Winemakers are pouring their soul into their wine, and respect is long over due. Try everything! (just hand over your car keys first).
