So, you’ve changed your name then, seems shorter than before 🙂 ?
Nice bottle swig at the end.

QOTD – Dolcetto is unknown for me, although I have just tried a Roero from Piemonte, which wasn’t bad at all.

QOTD: Just drank the 2005 Enzo Boglietti Dolcetto d’Alba Tiglineri earlier this week. It was my first Dolcetto but definately won’t be my last. I can really see why it’s the wine you order at a restaurant.

    Great Episode!!!

Well I tried the Dolcetto D’Alba Bricco Galluccio Destfanis like I said I would and all I can say is wow. I brought it to a blind tasting of reds we had at a friends house and everyone loved it. Nobody there ever had a Dolcetto before and all were surprised by it. At only 15 bucks from Bevmo we all agreed it was a steal. So once again thanks Gary and the crew at Wine Library for making my world a little better.

  • I’ve recently enjoyed the Castello dei Poggio Dolcetto, which is DOC Monferatto. Very drinkable, with both black and red fruit, nice sweet oak, dried fruit, fruitcake; nice complexity for about $19.

    Hi Gary,
please tell me, how do you evaluate colour. You are saying on the show that this colour is better than that colour, this is the best colour…
I don´t really go too crazy about the colour and rather think that it is an indicator for grape type, age of wine, region of production and vintage and don´t really rate the colour because it doesn´t have much influence on the enjoyment.
Do you think that a Shiraz from Barossa Valley has a “better” colour than a Pinot Noir from Nuits-Saint-Georges and should be therefore rated higher?!
And please: If you really like a region and rave about it take ten seconds to learn how to pronounce the name. Peeet mon tae!? A new kind of martial arts or a region in the north west of Italy.
    Sincerely, Konst

Have been trying to learn about Italian wines. I’d say I’ve liked 90% of the Dolcettos I’ve tried, 100% of the Brunellos, and only 50% of the Barberas or Chiantis… So for $15 Dolcetto is definitely near the top of my list!

  • For the price Dolcetto replaced Barbera for my go-to pasta wines long ago. Actually, at 12-16 bucks they have gone up in price but still a good value.

I’m down with the Big D! my favorite was one I found for 7 bones on the discount rack..

I believe it was an Abbona Dolcetto di Dogliani?

Those who love roses should really try a Lacrima Morro d’Alba!

Gary, I love Dolcetto as well, it always seems to have great balance and character. The QOTD is hard to answer(Italian wine names are difficult to remember) but I really enjoyed the Altare that we had with my wife’s beef stroganoff a few nights ago. Congratulations on your very well deserved success.

You mentioned rose aspect in wine, one of my favorite whites, Kim Crawford 06′ Marlborough Sauv. Blanc after breathing for 2-2.5 hours was strait rose pedal on the bouquet. I’ve been looking for that in a lot of wine i buy. great with duck for some reason.

I had my doctorâ??s appointment yesterday. Iâ??m doing fine. My dietâ??s over. Iâ??m drinking wine again. Iâ??m having my first delcetto ever. Itâ??s 2006 lo Zoccolaio Delcetto dâ??Alba. Iâ??m liking it. Thanks Gary. Itâ??s taking me back to an earlier time I canâ??t identify. To me this is real red wine. I need to try some more delcettos.

Ha ha ha… When you hate a former Jet, you REALLY hate a former Jet. Ive always hated the bugger, so there you go. Got to have the love for my Hawks always and forever. QOTD: Never had one, but this episode has inspired me to buy a bottle at the wine shop the next time I make spaghetti. Me, with a little bit of you…….. Also, whats with the “lets take a sniff?” You need to bring back the sniffy sniff, Gary.

Probably the second comment I have left on this episode. I have tried dolcetto since. I enjoy Di Dogliani best up to now. They tend to be more robust which I enjoy. I’ve had a Vigna del Pilone 2003 and 2005 and the Contrevent di Alba 2005. Tonight, I am drinking a Pecchenino Siri D’Jermu 2005. Awesome stuff! Thank you Gary!

qotd: I don't think I have, and trying new varietals in one of my fav things about wine, and after all the barely heard about varietals I have had (including quite a few I'm certain haven't appeared on this show yet), I really have no excuse on this one. I need to get one of those next time I'm out. Thanks for the reminder Gary.

Also, I just had a bottle of Dom. Tempier Bandol and it said the same thing on it-11-14% alc., and I thought it was silly how they can have that 1% or so deviation on alcohol in the States!
