So first of all, one of the funniest shows ever. 9th grade gym class – classic. One comment though – what’s up with the 7-31 prediction. I’m no Jets fan, but you’re not going to win anything with that attitude. Step it up, and have some faith. I expect better next week. (BTW – Seahawks 26, Bucs 14)

QOTD: Is there any doubt? Rootbeer.

  • flippy

An 11+ minute classic today. Seriously funny stuff. Got to try a bunch of the Treana/Austin Hope wines in Paso in June – really nice stuff and great people.

QOTD: Root beer… black cherry soda is good but not common enough ’round these parts to drink all the time.

  • I would have to say sasparilla……also good to be back posting to your comments!! I have been out for a while….now a daddy of twins….so the wine train had to pull into the station for a while, but I am back…leaving you posts and coming out of “lurker” status. It’s football time again and I am banking that my GIANTS have a better season than previous, but we will have to see…injuries are killing us already…. As for the wines…blends are becoming very popular and “Meritage” wines are starting to make more of an impact now than ever before. Hey any chance on seeing a Santa Cruz Mountain tasting?? Or better yet….a Central Coast tasting of some of the Chardonnay’s, Pinot’s etc? This scene over here is popping, and so much that your boy Bob P might come out and do some reviews here next year? Would be interesting….anyways keep up the good work…glad to be back from no man’s land….and proud to be a daddy of twins and a vayniac!! Rock on….Go NY.~

Cave and ice cream sandwich … man, how would I develop those tastes together? Next time I go to a cave, I’ll wipe my ice cream sandwich on the wall.

QOTD: Cream Soda, especially Henry Weinhard’s. A&W is decent too.

Cream soda. Hard to find good ones. Good root beers are more prevalent.

I had teh Alluvium last year. Low 80’s tops. All oak, no fruit. NOt as bad as Gary makes out to me but just blah.

QOTD; if i had to choose, black cherry soda would be the one. i surely don’t like my wine to taste like it though.

in terms of the berringer, i had a lindemans cuvee bla bla, the step up from the $9 wine and it tasted as if welches grape juice made rubbing alcohol. it was awful. would not use it for cooking.

Of course the Beringer sucked. Its made by the same company that makes a white zinfandel. I can’t respect a company that makes a white zinfandel.

Shows are running a little short. And I know that doesn’t mean you’re short on things to say. You have time for us right? Your knowledge fuels my unpretentious quest for wine knowledge. Teach me. Teach me with more time.

QOTD: Root Beer. I love IBC, Goose Island and the old classic, A&W. Someone above me said Barq’s – hell yeah. Also let us not forget Dad’s. Anyone remember Dad’s Root Beer? I also used to drink a lot of MUG. That being said, I am also a HUGE fan of cream soda and I always buy it when I see it because I don’t see it too often.

Gary, as you will find out in this month’s issue of Decanter, The Treana was given the California Regional Medal for Blends in the Decanter World Wine Awards. Here is the tasting note:

“Terrific balance of Californian ripe fruit, toasty vanillin oak and appropriate acidity. Full flavoured and muscular with a spice component and obvious alcohol. Finish goes on further. Up to 8 years.”

Sounds like you all agree. Send me a bottle in Ireland, I’d love to try it.

    I like Treana also.

I have always loved cream sodas, but they are a little hard to find in urban areas of my state (ALabama).

  • GV…..speaking of red CA blends and Paso, check out Victor Hugo Winery, also in Paso a very small producer. He has 2 blends; an intriguing inexpensive one called “Hunchback” and a Bordeaux blend (all 5 varietals) called Opulence. I’ve got 04’s and 05’s of both, but I’m preferring the 04’s right now.
Take care….good luck with the Pats this weekend.

QOTD – Cream Soda, but the good ones are difficult to get hold of.

Over oaked Cab blends from Cali, same old same old. Nice show on the couch though and some classic lines. See you next week.

  • Kristen

I think that comment on the oak monster in the Beringer had to be the most creative: “This is like a 9th grade gym class with pretty girls- it’s full of wood.” Very eloquent…I think that’d go well in RP or WS for a review!

    QOTD: Black Cherry soda

    Have fun at the game!

“More wood in it than a 9th grade gym class with pretty girlsâ? – plus an Ernie Shavers mention – plus a realistic appraisal of the j-e-t-s chances this w/e – plus cream/black cherry/root beer debate…

    OK, best show ever?

Treana was one of the 1st wines i saw undergo a serious price increase over 1-2 vintages. it was the late 90’s and i was living in Fla. Treana hit the marketplace down there like $25-26/bottle and we drank it up! next year or two it was middle 30’s!!!

love Black Cherry! Cream is for pansy j-e-t-s fans.
