A big thumbs up for calling out the Kim Crawford Chard…I have found the wines from KC to continually under-impress and wondered what everyone saw in them – way to stay true!

I’ve got to say, i was _just_ thinking how i’d like to see you do some Virginian wines just as you said you’d been getting a lot of requests for non-west coast wines. I live in Virginia but sadly have little experience with Virginian wines so i can’t think of what to suggest. That being said if you know of anything you’d like to try hit me up and i’ll grab you a case.

Keep up the great work! I’m going to try not to be a nasty lurker any longer.

    Cheers.

Saw you on Ellen, way to go!
I work for NBC at 30 Rock, would like to say Hi if you come by.
Have you ever considered doing a show featuring home made wines?

    Keep it up, Gary.

    Lurker revealed!
I’m at work on a Saturday night, and it sucks. But someone just gave me some Godiva chocolate and life tastes better now.

QOTD: I’m a beer drinking by habit/nature/upbringing. So I am going into unchartered waters with the Thundershow.

I finally caught the Ellen bit and it was great! It must be great to know that you’re responsible for the Ellen employee of the month award now.

Keep up the great work Gary!

  • Nice to have you back…on the other hand, it sounds like your Friday was much like my own. Wine (whine) and all.

  • Jesus, I never saw you freak out like with that Kiwi vin! I have a soft spot for New Zealand wines, it couldn’t have been THAT bad?

Offsetting that, I also saw tonight your most glowing apparaisal yet (that I’ve seen, at any rate), albeit on an old episode. Some class of Clos du Vougeot, I think.

I’m halfway through a bottle of 1996 Beaune Premier Cru (Clos du Roi) – burning acidity with a raspberry and menthol schtick too. I’m not sure I love it but it’s ballsy.

I’m up for work in just a few hours but I gotta admit, I prefer drinking wine to selling it 🙁

    Wow, tough episode!

QOD – I’m going to triathlon Nationals, baby! Well, amateur nationals, but it’s a start. I’m also going to try to find a bottle of that Kim Crawford to see if it’s really that bad. Their SB is terrific, hard to believe their Chard could suck a$$ so bad.

To the Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta. Missed hearing your rants. Too bad about the wines on the episode. I, for one , am not a Kim Crawford fan.

Being patient on the Cab as I know this is a work in progress.

  • I have found the show very inspiring and informative. Thinking of pursuing a career as a sommelier myself, I enjoy the experience and sensations of wine so much.

One wee suggestion though, if I may… how about a search engine for your fans to research the wines you have tasted? Perhaps in an Access type format that gives all the info such as rating (a blasphemy you are forced to commit, I know), vintage, vineyard, type, and characteristics? I think we would find it helpful and then perhaps including a link to the show that featured the wine would make it all come together.

    Just a thought.

Thanks again for your valor to go where no other sommelier has gone before.

Hey Gary – you have never done a show on Rutherglen muscat or tokay (of which you currently have zero examples, unfortunately). These are fortified wines made nowhere in the world outside Australia (and are best in this region) – as I am sure you know – and whenever I serve them to Americans they are kind of blown away (yeah, you are right on the sweetness thing!!).
Pitty you don’t have the Seppelt Show Reserve examples of these wihich blow the Chambers and Bullers versions away!

Gary – I’ve never commented before but thank you for doing this, and please please keep it up for as long as you can! I love wine, but my wine-confidence has always been to low to really go out there and live on the edge a little 😉

thanks again and greetings from sweden

  • Gary!

I rarely say this but this was a great ep. Dont worry about the (lack of the) wines. You come through better when you diss a wine. Maybe that sounds crazy.

QotD : First London then Chicago and New York. After that towards happiness but first to bed.

  • Shame about the crappy wines today.
The wife being from New Zealand it is a shame to see some of the Kim Crawford stuff not come up to scratch. Think they are becoming too big and losing some quality there.
As far as a good Petit Verdot, anyone ever tried the Wayne Thomas Petit Verdot from Mclaren Vale? Great to see lesser known Bordeaux grapes being used really well in the new world

QOTD I am going online to try and get some tickets to watch the Yankees for a trip to NY in the post-season. We’re gonna win in the east you know. From 14 1/2 games back, bring it on!!
