Chef’s Kobe Steak Selection at Chef Tom Colicchio’s restaurant Craftsteak. Some of the best steak I have ever had, great mushroom risotto, mix veggies, and this is the only place that could make 6 different ice creams work as dessert (but they did it)! When you go to Vegas Crafsteak is located in the MGM Grand. Give it a shot, but make sure you bring your checkbook, we dropped $750 for 4!

Best meal I ever had was New Year’s Eve dinner in Stockholm 2004. Our friends gave us money and left the rest up to me. You can make a pretty good dinner at home for $600!

  • Love the ending! Really appreciate the review of the kosher wine; I live in S. Florida and that will make a great gift for some of my friends.
QOTD- Best meal I ever had…top of Stratosphere in Las Vegas (the fact that I asked my wife to marry me may bias the memory a little though). But still…the food was great, the service spectacular, and the view is fantastic.

  • QOTD – Stone Road Grille in Niagara on the Lake here in Ontario, Canada (one of the best wine regions in the world, do a show!!). We had a great very casual meal Sunday night starting with oysters, and a Cave Springs cuvee. Next was a plate of house charcuterie with an awesome Stratus Wines 2005 White. We progressed to their chef’s version of poutine (fries, cheesy bechemel and fois gras) and then Lailey 2005 Impromptu PMS. We decided to end with a big chunk of Kobe beef and an 02 Nebbiolo from Ridgepoint. Unbelievable food, outstanding wine, amazing atmosphere, great service and beautiful conversation with a great friend of mine. Does life really get any better?

  • QOTD: About 5 years ago I organized a bachelor party in New Orleans for a friend of mine, and booked our group for dinner at K Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen. It was totally over the top, way too decadent and way too expensive, but we didn’t care. Was just a great group of people sharing really flavorful, fun food. We had so much fun and stayed out so late that I wound up going straight from the French Quarter to the airport to catch my flight home. Funny thing was, I wasn’t the only person on the flight who’d done exactly the same thing!

If you pull my name from the drawing, though, please pull another name and give the wine to that person! Super Tuscans are totally wasted on me.

My favorite meal was the last meal my mother cooked two days before she passed away in 1996. As she said her food was delicious because she cooked with love.

QOTD: My greatest meal in the recent past was when I was at the Rutherford Grill in Napa, CA. It was an ostrich fillet, soooo tasty, moist and meaty, like a good steak. Awesome brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes with horseradish and cabbage in it. I saved half for my next night’s meal since I was vacationing. YUM!

  • QOTD: My wife and I had an excellent dinner at Gary Danko in SF back in 2001. It was our introduction to Hudson Valley Fois Gras. Perfectly seared to that wonderful butter-like consistency, matched with poached pear, and paired with the most-excellent 1990 Chateau d’Yquem! It doesn’t get any better than that!

Hey, how many cases do you have left of the 2003 Saint Jean Du Barroux Lรข??oligocene?

A six course tasting dinner at davidburke and donetella. As an amateur chef I tried to mimic their recipes and came awfully close!

Gary, going off of your favorite region, what other regions are generally sure bets for a solid bottle between 10-15 bones?

QOTD: Best meal I had was at Fleur de Sel. A great Austrian Riesling, artichoke and goat cheese ravioli for starters and venison with pureed potatoes. Though the best dessert I’ve ever tasted was a goat cheese and peach tart at Pacifico.

Gary: Check out Cru du Cadoulet

Chad: Read “To Cork or Not To Cork, Tradition, Romance, and the Battle for the Wine Bottle” by George M. Taber. Best book I’ve found regarding closures.

QOTD: Filet Mignon, potatoes, mixed greens, w/ a half bottle of brunello @ 14,000 feet, not the most elaborate, but with the best seats I’ve ever had! (Not to forget the effects of wine at high altitude)

Best Meal: You can’t beat a Chilean Sea Bass rapped in Prosciutto on the BBQ. Throw it back with a great pinot and you’re golden.
