  • QOTD: Wow, that’s tough, because I love food. I think the greatest meal I have ever had was when I first tried Indian food with my sister at a little place in downtown Los Angeles. It was amazing. I love spicy food, and the whole thing was great. Plus, it was completely vegetarian because, well, she is one.

The French Room at the Adolphus in Dallas, TX. I know the best answer is my mom’s cooking, but to be honest the food, atmosphere and service where some of the best I have experienced in my years of fine dining. However, mom does prepare a mean chicken fried steak.

Shoot. Didn’t get a chance to watch the show yesterday and what happens? I miss out on a chance to win a (probably) great wine. Gr.

Well…regardless. QOD – Best meal I’ve ever had was my first “real” steak at a nearby steakhouse. Filet Mignon, cooked to perfection, with a pepper crust. Wow. I used to think I wasn’t really a steak kind of guy, but that night I learned better.

the greatest meal i’ve ever had. once, while in zakapone, poland, i went skiing all day and was so stupid i didn’t eat breakfast. the skiing was so great and i was with my brother and we were having such a blast that i didn’t want to leave. i had no food on me so i was starving, but i was loving it. after skiing i took a shower and hit up this tiny little restaurant and had sausages, potatoes, salad and mulled wine. it was heaven. not just the food, but the whole experience.

    hope i win!

Probably missed the contest cut off, but oh well. A $500 bottle of wine would probably be wasted on me anyway.

QOTD: Christmas Dinner, 1991. We lost the electricity from it snowing all day in southern New Mexico (which never happens). Had to cook everything on a wood grill. Spent all day with my family by fire light. Awesome day. Awesome meal.

My favorite meal has always been Chicken Fricasse made in the style of the Cajuns. My grandmother lives in central Louisiana and is the best cook ever!!!! She made this dish for me last year, and I got to help out. The dish is made with a roux that is so brown that it barley holds the sauce together, so it is very thin but super flavorful (dark meat is the only way to go). Dished over some boiled white rice and 2 pieces of buttered white bread, this cant be beat. Viva La Cajuns!!!

QOTD: The best meal I have ever had was the engagement meal I did with my wife-to-be to our families: Reindeer carpacio with whitewine from rhone, fillet mignon with portwinesauce, fried vegetables and steam peas and valpolicella redwine, to dessert we had pear-bluecheese-gingerbread-wallnut cake and portwine. But I suppose it is the best meal I have ever had because of the atmosphere and the people, because THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT HERE IN THE WLTV…

QOTD: Gonna say I made a turkey on my grill a month After Thanksgiving last year. Some how I pulled off spectacular fete. Added apple wood chips to the mix, the thing had a damn smoke ring on the breast! Even made the gravy with white wine. The whole thing was amazing.
Tried it again this year and it was good but not as good as last year. Not as much of the smoke ring going.. Something about that first experiment last year that blew me away.

But I have also had some amazing steaks at Grill 23 in Boston. Can’t take that away from them.

  • QOTD: The best meal I’ve ever had was my grandmother’s cheese dumplings. I miss her…her food was the best because she always put all of her heart into it (figuratively speaking, of course).

QOTD. Best meal ever – On honeymoon in south of france at a tiny hotel (Mas Des Carassin) in small town (St Remy de Provence) sitting out in the courtyard on a mid-june afternoon. Every bite went down in my memory and some very nice local wine, of course too.

qotd: there have been so many great meals, but the one that sticks out is the day with some buddies after a round of golf, we grilled two big filet mignons each, baked huge potatoes and smothered them with butter and shredded cheese, and boiled up corn on the cob in beer and Old Bay seasoning – an inspired decision that I’ve now repeated many times. Never eaten so much in my life, and never did it taste so damn good.

QOTD: Best Dinner I ever had, happened on two occasions. Once with my Dad when I was young and 2nd with my Mother-in-Law some time later. I’m sure the food was great, but The two people I mentioned are no longer with us and you can’t have a great dinner without great company.

The best meal I had was in Grand Case, Saint Martin. With a beautiful water view, I started with a ‘Ti Punch. Appetizer was shark ceviche Entree was Devil Fish Creole with a Poilly Fume and desert was a homemade tropical ice cream and fruit platter. The waiter poured my wife and I a shot of coconut-infused and banana-infused rum and a after dinner drink.

there have been many but one that stands out was a lunch I had in the central square of Aix-en-Provence. A massive plate was served with such an incredible variety of prepared vegetables, pate, cheese, and more – it was as tasty as it was absolutely beautiful! Will never forget that one….

Best meal last night after a shit day at work…

Bottle of Coume Del Mas Schistes 2003 + Arroz con Pollo Dominican style (from a dive on B’way/110th Street, NYC)

  • Mat

Best meal I had would be a vegetarian cannelloni in Scotland a few year ago, it was served topped with cloves, which is unusual but tasted amazing. I don’t remember the wine served with it unfortunately.
