I'm open to wines in a box, although I feel dubious about them and have never bought one and don't have any plans to. I'm definitely not into wines in a can however, I know Coppola's even doing one of those. I tasted a cuvee de pena rose in a bottle, it wasn't awful for the $2 or 3.99 it cost wholesale.

Environmentally conscientious, great for your cooking, and ideal for your drunk aunt’s wine spritzers.

QOD – Best steak ever – My neighbor makes the absolute best Korean bbq steak! He marinates bite size pieces of Kobe beef in a homemade Korean marinade. He then places pieces of steak on a Hibachi grill that sits in the middle of the dinner table. Once the beef is finished cooking, the meat is taken off the grill and placed on a piece of fresh red lettuce, topped with a thin sliver of garlic, and splashed with a light drizzle of spicy sauce. The lettuce is then folded over to resemble a small pocket and eaten. Pure, unadulterated goodness! Worst steak ever – My mom was the worst griller ever. It took dental records to identify anything that she cooked on the grill! When asked, she always insisted that it was steak and we should eat it anyway because it was expensive. Thanks mom!

The worst steak I ever had was a prime rib from a Roadhouse chain place, awful. The best was one my dad probably made 2 years ago. Hes a master chef. But I havnt eaten steak in like 20 months so I forgot much of the glory.

Just FYI, it’s a Tetra Prisma package which is produced by the company Tetra Pak. Just happened to look it up today: http://www.tetrapak.com/docs/Trademarkfolder04_0001.pdf

Hey look, the Christmas pack is back up.

QOTD: Best steak was probably at Ruth’s Chris in Durham (it was also nice that the entire meal was being payed for by Epic). Worst steak was one I made about a year ago. I tried to make Steak au Poivre but way undercooked it. Only about 40% of the two big fillets were edible. The edible part was good though.

  • I remember this total drunk that looooved the boxed wines. I’ve always been scared I’d turn into that guy. I will try some of the cardboard vino tho!

QoTD: Best Steak: Anytime my Dad fires up the grill and throws one on. Amazing! Honerable mention to Ruth’s Chris. It’s just tasty! Worst Steak: an ex scorched and I mean scorched a filet once. It was just like eating the inside of a Nike sneaker!

  • JamesN.

    QOTD;
The best steaks are the ones that are shared with friends & family, The worst are the ones that I eat by myself. Whenever I have a great steak by myself, it is good or even excellent, but like great wine, a great meal is not a great experience, unless you share it with somebody. I am very lucky to have had many steaks that I call the best steaks, even if the quality or the cooking had some room for improvement.

I cracked up when you were pouring the Bota Box. A classic WLTV moment.

QOTD – Worst Steak… when I was a kid I loved the Salisbury Steak TV Dinner. I tried it a few years back and man was it terrible. TV Dinners were great. Gotta love the fake mashed potatoes, rubber corn, and brownie (or sometimes the apple crumb dessert):-)

Best Steak… I remember eating a T-Bone a few years back at my aunt and uncles house that was awesome. I remember it being really juicy, medium rare (I can’t stand when people order good steaks well), no special seasonings, but just a great steak.

  • Suzanne

QOTD: Best steak I ever had was back in 1987 at Julien, the French restaurant at the (now gone) Boston Hotel Meridian. Worst steak I ever had was back when I was 6 years old: Swanson Salisbury Steak TV dinner, which I threw up shortly after eating.

Interesting show – but I’ll stay away from box wines for now.

QOTD: Best steak = Aged Kobe Filet Mignon @ Forbes Mills Steakhouse. Cooked to perfection (medium rare -> medium), great texture, excellent flavor and very tender.
Worst steak = Top Sirloin @ Black Angus. Ordered medium, but was served well-done. Need a chainsaw to cut this thick piece of leather. Should be against the law to cook or order a steak well-done.

    Love the show!

    QOTD:
Best – we went to the CIA last month and had a skirt steak that was done really well!

Worst – Probably one of the steaks that I ordered growing up at Bonanza. Man did they suck, but as a kid I would eat anything.

  • kadair

Best Steak would have to be at Alfred’s steak house in San Francisco. Cowboy cut bone in Ribeye med rare. Worst steak would have to be old school tv dinner salsbury steak when I was really young.

Great EP Gary, your the best!!

QOTD: The best steak I have ever had was a aged porterhouse from Capital Grille in Providence.
The worst steak I have ever had was a steak that I cooked myself at home, the problem was that I baught a cheap cut….I will never do that agian, spend that extra $$$ and get a good cut.

  • QOTD: Best steak: Filet at Ruth’s Chris, Chicago. Worst steak: New York Steak at Pete’s Kitchen, Denver.

Does anyone have any recommendations for steak-houses in London?

Don’t eat many streaks so this is purely for the wine.

    Best streak: on my grill.
    worst streak: Sizzler’s

  • Mike T

Since I serve at a steakhouse, the best steak I’ve enjoyed would be an 8oz cut of Kobe Tenderloin. The worst cut of steak would have been a rubbery over-done piece of prime-rib.

    Love WLTV!

  • Best Steak = Blair Perrone porterhouse for 2 in NYC.

Worst Steak = A piece of shoe leather from Perkins with that wierd meat tenderizer taste on it…I should have known better

  • Tim Vining

QOTD: Best steak was a filet mignon my father prepared when I was still a kid. Worst steak was a sirloin steak place on a grill and overcooked to total dryness and then covered with horrible, cheap BBQ sauce. Yuck, the hot dogs were better than that!

Best steak, easy, a rib eye steak sandwich at the Brathaus on campus in Madison, WI my sophomore year.
Worst, another rib eye, but this time at the Outback at the Westminster Mall in CA.

QOTD: The best steak I had was a fillet mignon at The Butcher Shop In Memphis — the kind you cook yourself at a huge pit. FUN.

The worst was one I bought at the grocery store and BBQ’d. It was already marinated which i didn’t know at the time equals old. Food poisoning. NOT FUN.

  • You know, Franzia isn’t as bad as everyone thinks it is. My friend had a franzia party the other year, and their red wines were definitely better than Three Buck Chuck.

QOTD: Part of the answer is the same as the previous question… the best steak was at Grolla in Portland, OR… there was something that was hugely smokey about it that was awesome. And there are plenty of worst steaks I’ve had… my friend cooking on his barbecue and adding lighter fluid mid way through the cooking cause the fire went out, so the whole steak tasted like lighter fluid… as for a high expectation steak but it falling flat… probably Ruth Chris steak house… with a party of 4 and all of us disliked our steak!

    David

  • Russ J

I would love to hear a response on that 2004 box from someone in the business in terms of that packaging’s effect on the wine over time. My impression is that the problem with box wine is generally the wine chosen to fill the package and not the package itself.

QOTD: worst-any nasty catering hall prime rib! best-dry aged filet mignon!

Best steak, ribeye on my grill in the daylight, sober.
Worst steak, ribeye on my grill in the dark after two bottles of wine.
