I want to take a big ass glass to the wine shop that I help at and use it for tastings instead of those tiny
plastic cups that seem to be the standard for wine salespeople. Also want to focus on doing a better job of detecting and identifying various aromas. I need the Vayniac gene for aromas!

QotD: I want to try as many different varietals as I can get my hands on (newbie here!). I went to get a german riesling after your episode the other day so I think I’ll start with that one.

Gary! Fun Ep….I totally agree with you that WA has been making some excellent wines (Huge fan of some of their Merlots)…However, would you be able to try some Idaho wines??
    QotD-
    1. To try more than 250 wines
    2. To learn to be more patient
    3. to be more vocal about my appreciation for others.

    Happy New Year!

  • Wow- do you think you may have seen the difference between soul-less big name winery vs heart and soul small winery with the syrahs??????
Love the insect blood descriptor- will have to use that one sometime-big tasting, lots of impressionable people……

Here’s a big time lurker coming out. I’ve been watching the show daily since the article came out on Slate. Right now I’m in Israel volunteering and studying for a year. Thus, I’ve really been enjoying the Kosher wines/Israeli wines which you’ve occasionally featured on the show. In Israel, it seems very hard to find anything but Israeli wines at a reasonable price-point. I guess that’s good for their wine makers. When do you plan to make the trip to Israel, GV?
Unfortunately, I’ve even received a wrist-band (the old-school kind) but never sent in the picture (boo to me) and never once commented (shameful). However, I’m coming clean and correcting at least one of my errors (picture w/ wrist-band soon to follow).

QOTD: Pop some Israeli growers’ (assuming that exists) in Tel Aviv with friends on New Years. What could be better?!

My resolution is to buy more wine that I lay down for 1-5 years.

  • Another great show, GV. Just FYI, I had the pleasure of actually visiting Wine Library on Friday. This store is the Mecca for wine enthusiasts. If you have yet to make the pilgrimage, it is worth it.

QOTD: New Years resolution for wine is to share my enthusiasm for trying different wines with more people.

Cool. I already had bought some Woodward wines with the intention of aging them 4 years.

QOTD: I have a wine consumption problem that has nothing to do with drinking. I vow to buy no more wine than I actually drink in 2008 (except for the 2005 Bordeaux’s I’ll be stashing away). Boy, that’s going to be a difficult one to keep!

Rezo: Make sure all my friends know about WLTV. Try some grower champagne.

Wine resolution. Find more good wines for under $10. I have some steady favorites, but it’s always nice to discover more.

start saving and collecting! instead of buying one and drinking it I’ll buy 2 and save one.
BTW, Woodhouse, Maghee Cellars Merlot is a great Washington wine from Rattlesnake Hills. Prices in around $30’ish

    Hi All

After Gary’s spirited review of Cougar Crest I was highly motivated to obtain a few bottles. Unfortunately, living in Switzerland, it is not so easy for my to get ahold of US made wines. Does anybody have any suggestions for either a) someone who imports within Switzerland or b) someone who exports from US?

Ah, Switzerland: lots of money, nothing to use it on 😉

BTW: I already tried contacting the producer – no luck there. Too bad Gary doesn’t ship internationally… 😎

  • life’s too short…

QOTD: Cut back on wanton acquisitions. That Black Bart Syrah was NOT COOL! (Just when I think I’m out? They pullllll me back in.) The BBS is serious juice, and maybe because it was a wedding wine (Black Bart and Bride of Black Bart). Okay, prolly too much info. (too bad! it’s my ((largely unread)) comment!) 😀

Nice episode Mr. Vaynercharles. Now then, get back to work. Oh, QOTD on the Riesling side of things. I’ve had lots, most were not good (I used to drink Piesporter and Riesling when I was a kid (20s) because we thought we were being erudite and cool–and only German white wine can do that for you, apparently.) My adult Riesling choices these days are much better, though…

It’s amazing how much I learn from this show, just amazing……….

QOTD: Drink and taste more wines. I have been stuck on the Auslese’s here lately and need to work on all the other grapes out there. YOU, with a little bit of ME, will change how I look at wine………….
