Oh boy Gary will be in a good mind set today as he gets to taste his boyhood love “Petit Verdot” 🙂 Honestly a grape that is on the rise with global warming.

Qotd: had a few in Virginia this past year at a tasting that were dynamite. Unfortunately they were all done blind so I'm not sure which one was the best

Never had a petit verdot, but I’ve always heard you make comments about it and have been curious. Maybe I’ll pick one up soon. By the way, the last two podcasts haven’t worked on my iPod! Glitch of some kind?

I have had several Washington State Petit Verdots. One in particular I remember and enjoyed was Owen Sullivan’s 2005. Only 50 cases though, and sells out on release each year.

Another enlightening show, Gary. Thanks for the info. I have had the Murph G.
before. This was about 5, 6 years ago though and I thought it was fantastic. The only thing I knew back then was that it was one of 5 varietals used for blending in Bordeaux.I look forward to trying more. Thanks Al

    QOTD:
Only have had one PV in a blend — Yard Dog, Red Head Studio, Australia, 2005 vintage. Have had this blend a few times since and will continue to do so.

A fabulous wine that is surprisingly only $15 CDN in here in Calgary. Blended with Cab & Merlot. Goes with almost any meal. I’d easily put a case in the basement as my “house” wine.

QOTD: Can’t say I’ve had a straight up PV. Since I am from Seattle, I am interested in what Washington has to offer. I’ll check it out.

  • Nice job with the PV GVNC! Too bad there wasn’t anything that blew your face off. Watch it with the half point scoring!

I have, but can’t remember the producers so they obviously didn’t blow me away. I guess it’s time to give that grape another try…just for you GVNC!

Can’t wait to watch you on apple TV…I guess I would need to get one first though.

    Today I stop lurking!

Had some good Ballast Stone and great Pirramimma PV from Oz. Also, Sandhill Small Lots out of BC. As a translpant from Vancouver to NJ I am loving your store and prices. Gary, if you want to taste some wine from BC let me know as I have brought a stash with me.

Have had the Trinchero, which was nice, but I don’t think I’d ever pay the $30 or so it goes for around here. Supposedly it was like $17-18 just a year or two ago. Maybe then.

QOTD: I had a straight PV at a private tasting up in the Rockpile AVA just above the Drycreek valley. It was amazing the only problem was it was just the winemakers bottling, the rest of it was going into there blend. Which is too basd because our whole group would have bought bottles if they were available. But right now it is kind of hard to find straight PV in Burgundy

In all honesty I don’t recall if I did or if I didn’t but next time I am at the S.A.Q. (where we have liquor here in Quebec), I will definitely look into Petite Verdot, I am such a good student, keep it up !

Never had P.V. But now that I know what to expect I will be looking for some next time I head to the store. We only get limited things here so I will have to look and see what they have in stock. I would not mind tasting the Murphy Goode.
