Qotd: had a few in Virginia this past year at a tasting that were dynamite. Unfortunately they were all done blind so I'm not sure which one was the best

  • Hmmm, my only experience with PV is whether Dominus used it in sny given year in their blend.

    QOTD:

    #1 No
    #2 See #1
#3 Will definitely seek it out and the Radool apple TV? Would this be a prize? It’s very cool and would love to have one. Trying to figure out the cryptic message at the end. Are you signing up with Steve Jobs?

  • Oops, “in any given year”

We need an edit function on this board.

  • The Original Marc

QOTD: I’ve had two, both Australian. De Bortoli and Piramimma. The first was kinda eh. The Piramimma I just had this past weekend and hated it. With that said, I’m always willing to try another.

QoTD: Yes, I’ve tried the PV, mainly thanks to all the praise it gets from you, GV … I’ve had De Bortoli Vat 4 (I *think* the ’04), which I liked quite a bit … although I’ve no other experience with the grape to compare it against. I’ll have to look again to see if they’ve got any others available.

Ah, I was wondering when you’d devote an episode to your wine-love, petit verdot! I can’t believe how dark that rosé looked! It was almost like a beaujolais!

QOTD1: No probably only in a blend. QOTD2: See last question. QOTD3: To actually find a wine with a majority of PV. It’s not the most common of things.

  • I have not but been thinking about it. Not a lot of shops in my area with wide selection.

    QOTD:
I have had a few PV’s and grave them everyday.
I also enjoy the blended REDS when then imclude PV.

    Currently I’m consuming the:
Imagery PV’s, I pick up a case in the fall 2007.
    LOVE IT.

Had a Ken Rasmussen 100% PV—tasty and unique. Looking forward to trying more!

QOTD: I’ve never had a PV. I’ve been trying to find one every since you started raving about them, Gary, but haven’t come across one yet. I’ll keep trying though–maybe the next time I get to the big city or down to California.

Gary, great episode, it was short but the energy for the PV was there.

QOTD- Not yet, what am I waiting for? I still haven’t opened the Bandol from a month or two ago, but I am getting there. I am planning on trying the PV in the future, next time I go buying I will pick one or two up.

GV, another break out of the box show with PV. I have been wanting to try some PV for some time, but the value is just not there. Plus, I am on a Cab Franc kick right now. I need a reason to buy a couple bottles, but haven’t found one yet. Will stick to blends for right now.

    Something new for me!

    QOTD
No, therefore, no, never heard of it b4. Did try a Cab Franc that I thought was great (Francis Coppola 2004.)

LOVE P.V. ….Still not sold on the Idea of a straight P.V. and haven’t had one at a price range that I think was worth the bucks yet. I absolutly love it as a blending grape in Wines….especially the Wines that put around 10% of P.V. in…my two faves…are the 2004 Bell Wine Cellars (Anthony Bell former winemaker for 15 vintages at B.V. Winery now on his own) Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Truchard Vineyards and Beckstoffer…uses 10% Petite Verdot which makes it a very elegant Cabernet and I prefer Washington State Cabs, Merlots and Syrahs but this Napa Valley Cab by Bell is A Handcrafted effort in this Sommelier’s Opinion thanks to the talents of Anthony Bell and Thanks to 10% P.V.!! Secondly, I always was a fan of Montes Purple Angel…Carmenere at it’s best but 9% P.V. is what makes the wine so complex and floral and spicy…and of course PURPLE as is Bell Cab thanks to one of the best Red Grape Varietals in the World…I Agree With G.V. I’m Down with P.V. but still not as a single Varietal Grape yet…but Soon!!!

QOTD: Never had one that wasn’t blended. Not waiting for anything in particular – it’s on my list.

QOTD: Haven’t had a Petite Verdot as a single grape but just as a blend. Glad to see that you tried a VA wine, but your tasting notes are similar to my experience really green & really funky wines.

I’m putting together a list of wines to try & take advantage of the local mixed case discounts at my local wine merchant

Yes – the De Bortoli Vat 4 or whatever it was was interesting, and so was the Canyon Wind PV (85% or so, at least) from western Colorado. Both of them reasonably priced.

QOTD: Never had Petit Verdot. Actually, I had never heard of the grape. But I won’t be waiting much longer. I’m going to try one as soon as I can find one.

Great show. I love learning about new grape varieties. Two thumbs up.

  • Brandon T.

Gary, will you go ahead and bring a hot girl and take Petit Verdot grapes and smush them on your chest and then slather her buttocks with grapes and wine.

  • Ina V-G

Awesome…you just made my hubby, Will G’s day by reviewing some of the wines that he sent to you! Thanks!

QOTD: Will bought those same bottles for us to try…so we’ll probably check those out this weekend!

Never tried a Petit Verdot. Just getting into wine so I have not tried all the different varietals. Next time I hit up my local wine shop I’ll see if I can get my hands on a not too expensive one. Although I am not a college kid, I shop like one.
