qotd: All I really know about is some of their wines, and the main reason for me goin there would be to see the wineries. The history would be nice too
Wow just had a bottle of Chateau D'Auvernier Neuchatel yesterday. LOVE that you threw the spotlight on Switzerland wines, some killer quality there, wines that aren't explored nearly as much as they should be, but the prices are high.

One thing, Chasselas is not ONLY in Switzerland, it's made as a varietal in Alsace, the one made by Domaine Schoffitt is particularly good. Also you can find it under the Pouilly-Sur-Loire appellation in Eastern Loire Valley France too.

QOTD: I have a swiss army knife and love swiss cheese now all I need is a swiss wine for the perfect trifecta!

QotD: Shows you how much I know about Switzerland, I didn’t know it had a big wine culture. One of my biggest regrets is not studying abroad in Switzerland when I had the chance. I will definitely look for some wines and it won’t take much for me to visit the country… just some money and the chance!

I liked Baroness Sophia very much. Great credentials, extremely knowledgeable, competent, lovely personality.
QOTD: I haven’t been to Switzerland since I was a child. If someone sent me a ticket, I’d love to hear Romansch and taste the wines.

  • Excellent episode! These are the types of episodes that are informative and interesting. I’m interested in trying ALL of those wines even at that price. Love the info!! Great job!

  • gary, you tapped into it. nobody is talking about swiss wines. i live in switzerland now and they don’t get exported at all. i know a wine maker here and he was joking about how we drink the best and send the rest. i still have not tapped completely into it all cause i am stills searching out the french wines and happy that i can get good italian and spanish wines. france gets the bottom of the barrel from these countries so they feel better about themselves.

Chasslas is made in alsace also. not everywhere but it is there. search out paul blanc. it is true though, it is the zinfandel of switzerland. it is everywhere.

QOTD: switzerland is a beautiful country. unlike most of it’s neighbors huu humm france, many of the people speak english very well. this makes it very easy for travel. the train system is very complete also. there is a word that kept coming up in the tasting which is “clean”. as a country, it is impeccable. it is a great country yet expensive. the prices for the wine on the show is pretty much in line with top swiss wine.

  • Great show Gary, another guest who enhances the experience, that’s quite a few this year.

QOTD – I’ve been to Switzerland a couple of times and like what I’ve seen. I’ve heard great things about Swiss wines and am lucky enough to have some (sorry Sophie, not yours!) waiting for a good moment to open.

  • Buahaha – the ending!!!

QUTD: I was in Switzerland just for a few days, but I was amazed, how clean and perfect everything was there. My first impression was, it’s the best place in Europe for living.

  • One question though. Do you think Gary can really be honest whith the producers sitting right next to him? That would be tough.

Gary, you’re on a roll this week. Two very enjoyable shows due to the guests, not necessarily the wines. The interaction with guests is a pleasant change.
QOTD: I would want to try the Swiss wines because they aren’t price too high and the Master liked them.

Great ep!! Switzerland really is a special place for wine… I love the way they can blend syrah, gamay and pinot noir and make a gorgeous red… BTW, Chasselas is also grown by some folks in the Loire Valley, in Pouilly Fumé!

I’ll be visiting Geneva in the months to come, can’t wait to taste some Swiss wines!

    PS: Perdrix is a partridge!

    Best regards from Paris,

QOTD: I’d be happy to visit and see the Swiss Alps alone. Discovering great wine would make the trip even better! Haven’t tried a Swiss wine yet but have had many Alsatian rieslings and an Austrian wine…Schwarz Zweigelt.

HI Sophia I have been to Switzerland and enjoyed it very much. I wasn’t a wine person then but my boys at the age of 12 and 14 just loved the beer garden. Their mother was a little shocked that they could drink at that age but it was a very good experience for them. I would love to try your wine now. I will be watching for it. Gary does the wine library have anything to offer?

QOTD: My girlfriend’s pseudo-parents (nanny and her husband) live in Switzerland. We are going to try and get out there this year for a visit. Dont know much about Swiss wines, but that Pinot Gris looks intriguing!!

Nice show GV! Even with a bit of a language barrier you were able to communicate about the wines, and shed some brilliant light on the Swiss.

QOTD: I think that the scenery, banks, and watches are more of an attraction to Switzerland than anything else -rivaled in quality by few other places. However, to have some indigenous wine on top of all that, would be amazing…

    Gary,

These last two episodes were terrific. I began to realize that wine is just your medium to declare to the world – embrace life – celebrate the little things- love family – cherish friends – delight in others. Your skills with your guests are amazing – You brought the best out in Sophia as you did with your kid brother. The ability to extract the personality from your guests harkens back to the skills of Johny Carson.

WLTV is my 10 minute vacation in the afternoon of each day – thanks,

    Tim

QOTD: I actually know a fair bit about Switzerland, I lived in Geneva for 3 years when I was young (I know that Cafe de Paris in Geneva is the best steak in the world). But, since I was too young to drink I know very little about Swiss wines. It is probably not the wines that will get me back but my love of the country.

Why does Europe have to be so expensive? 🙁 Would love to go someday when I’m rich.

Sophia is hot! Great guest GV!

What would make me want to go to Switzerland? Week long parties with great wine and wonderful people like her! =)

  • JoeyB

Interesting show about Swiss wines. Sophia was a great guest.

QOTD: My fiance is of Swiss ancestry so I would love to drink Swiss wines and visit Switzerland. She has never been there and I have only passed through the airport. Such an intriguing country.
