QotD: Bought a Starfire Zinfandel after having it and loving it during a night of revelry. It was disgusting, tasted like particle board [2 bottles tasted the same] and we poured them out, seriously undrinkable.

QOTD: Yesterday I opened a bottle and it was terrible. SOOOO funky. Full on dirt and banana peels. Trashy banana peels. Barely a hint of cherry underneath. Just gross and it got worse as it sit out. Salty and more peely. Firestone Estate 2000 Merlot that I had just purchased from the Firestone winery. They need to remove those bottles, sheesh. Made my palate MAAAAAAD!

i am down with the head to head bouts. winner takes all. too bad that it was a bad round one. in defense of burgundy, 2003 and chardonnay did not party well. the grapes just got burnt. white burg geeks say 05 was too hot for chard. in semi defense of giradin, his mersault is not very good and one should steer towards other whites from this producer.
ps, this is more like a cage match rather than a battle royal!

QOTD: i am trying not to drink french wine for two weeks (it is ruff and tuff), so i went new world last night and tried penfolds cab / shyraz , 05 and boy was i sad. i knew what i was getting into, but i still tried. it is easier to not drink aussie wine for 2 weeks than french. if all wine taste liek this, i would have more $$$ for other stuff.

Well I probably was first to watch the show…well whoopitty-dooo. Except I didn’t sit here refreshing the page like all the Perez Hilton fans.
Nothing worth running out to get today, the only white from Australia I’ve had is Verdelho.
QOTD: The last time I was disappointed was when I saw WS list for 2005 Bordeaux this week…I knew and have paid attention to the high prices but it really hit me when I looked at the whole list all together. I’m Going to have to find another region to shop for my French wines. I don’t anticipate 2007 being a good vintage either, but at least Napa had great weather…AND as for Vayniac cab it may be good enough that I won’t care about expanding my pallet.
