  • That was interesting.

QOTD: I’m completely disappointed with this new Dell Laptop I got a month ago and the hassles I’m going through to make this thing right. I’m ready to ship this thing back to the crack tech support staff in Bangalore and get my rupees back.

Gary, I hope you will do a taste-off between 05 Amon-Ra and 05 Shotfire or
05 Boarding Pass… I e-mailed you a few weeks ago from my work and you told me that it would be a good idea.. so I certainly hope you picked these wines for a taste off before you went away.. oh I hope so..

Great show gary, love the humor. Sad to see your first round pan out so poorly, I’ll be watching tomorrow though 😉

QOTD: 2 words Corn Bread…also burned

  • Oh, and Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka would have kicked both their asses.

  • GV ~ Interesting tasting, bummer it didn’t rock the hizzie ! Looking forward to the rest of this weeks shows. Have fun in your travels !!

Qotd: Had a Ridge Zin recently (don’t remember the year?) and I was sadly disappointed, I’ve had many Ridge wines in the past and this was a definite pazzzz. Keep the T-show rolling, thx ~ Max

  • I was disappointed when I went to the art institute of Pittsburgh for my first quarter.

    Commercial art is not art.

Ok, so I’ll step down from my soap-box. But, this episode didn’t disappoint me, I’m glad you’re telling the truth when it comes to certain wines…if everything was awesome you wouldn’t need to have this show.

What ever happen to more realistic wines for the average joe. Past few episodes have had very expensive wines. Lets see more inexpensive wines. Perhaps an episode on amazing wines that college students would be wise to invest in…

QOTD: i bought a 15 dollar bottle of merlot recently and found that there was a evil oak monster that love to club the tung with a giant oak tree. I felt sorry for the money that was wasted.

    Amazing show keep ’em coming!

  • SteveW

I love the Battle Royale theme, maybe you can do a California Cabernet or Merlot VS Washington.
    QOTD: Disappointments:
    1) The Seahawks losing the Super Bowl to the Steelers!!!!!
    2) The reelection of President Bush!!!!!

Thanks for the episode Gary, too bad for the lackluster performances. I wonder if you mixed the two would you have gotten something that scored better?

QOTD: The last time I was obnoxiously disappointed with wine was recently when I bought the Lancaster Estate 2004 Alexander Valley Cabernet for $60 at my favorite wine shop. I was in the store all hyped up over the 97 points Wine Enthusiast score (big mistake to get all hyped up). Brought the wine to dinner to share with friends over nice juicy steaky steaks. Man was I let down! A 91 at best and I think that was far reaching.

Great idea for a week of shows. Sucks that today’s wine’s were no good, but the idea is GREAT, so props there.

Also, I just received my anniversary pack and there’s some really interesting stuff. Good work and look forward to trying them.

QOTD: Any number of times when work looks clear for the weekend but I then end up in the office all of Saturday, Sunday or both.

Sometimes you never know what to expect when you buy wine!
QOTD: Case in point…I just poured nearly an entire bottle of Caves Fleury Bordeaux Rose’ 2005 down the sink on Sunday. It was awful!!!

  • Good work Gary.

Your show inspires me to get more and more into wine with every viewing. I just tried a 2005 Barton & Gustier Bordeaux because of you, a month ago I didn’t know what Bordeaux was!

    Keep bringing the thunder plz.

Found the episode, and results, quite enjoyable.

QOTD: The ’74 Margaux we bought when our daughter was born, and opened on her 21st birthday, was corked. Big disappointment to us, but no biggie for her, as she’s not into wine.

  • Phil M’Glassup

Whew that 2003 (I think) Loring Rosella’s. After all the hype and after having spent half a benjy, this was total crap. Sheer Doctor Pepper. I will never drink a Loring wine again.
As for disapointments of a more personal nature, I have two words for you:
    internet dating.

Totally looking forward to the rest of the match ups! Actually, i just tasted a bunch of Girardin red Burgundys. Volnay, Pommard, Santenay, and Bourgonge. All were very good. Especially the Bourg. for 20 bones. QOTD – Mitt dropping out!
(the Knock Knock…btw) Would love to know more about your Tampa appearance, maybe you can swing by the Wine Warehouse in South Tampa!

Disappointed : 2007-08 Patriots. I know the entire country hates the Pats, but c’mon… in 20 years everyone would’ve said, “Wow, remember that Pats team that year… incredible.” I mean, I’m not the biggest Wilt Chamberlain fan in the world (Bill Russell, anyone?), but you’ve got to admit it was pretty cool to hear of a guy scoring 100. No matter how much people hate him.

Oh, wine, er, Johnson’s (Alexander Valley, CA). Um, nice pipe organ.

WOW!! I’ve repressed the memory it was so redonkulously disappointing… the Pats. Almost forgot. Ugghhh! Those were ’05 Burgs btw. Seriously, would love to meet you, the legend, in person in Tampa.

QOTD: It was today actually. 2 of the 3 wines I tried did not get along with my Pal. They were NY wines; a dry Riesling, and a sparking wine. I’m hoping this is due to my recovery from being sick.

I feel for you on today’s show, you tried to bring the Thunder, but ended up in a Blunder.

  • Yay, I’m happy to see a wine from the Adelaide hills featured – I did my maturation in oak in Adelaide and it’s now one of my past “home” regions.

QOTD: Can’t really recall being obnoxiously disappointed recently – life is going oh so well at the moment. The closest would be when I got Kieth Urban tickets in a PS3 box for my BDay, but that was turned to happiness when the PS3 was handed to me some hours later.

  • Great idea to do the Vs. week. Hope things pick up.

QOTD: Every day I read the news of what’s going on in my area (the middle east).

About 4 months back I had the wine clerk at a local shop sell me on this 37 dollar bottle of Caravan red. He was raving about how great it was, and what a steal the wine was. I opened it a few days later on the weekend and became more and more depressed with every sip I took. I found myself tasting it over and over waiting for the great fruit and structure he raved about to come out of hiding. It never did. Each sip was a bigger disappointment than the last. Now I am sad.

  • Oregon Jim

I sit here drinking a nice Reuilly SB wondering why we keep searching for a memorable chardonnay $50! That buys 3 of these, or a killer bottle of Walla Walla Merlot!

QOTD- I am going to make a confession. As much as I love Oregon Pinot Noir, there are lessons I still get to learn! A birthday party for a good friend was the reason for me to pop two bottles of ’03 Rex Hill Maresh Loie’s Block Pinot Noir, a $75 bottle rated 93WE.

Grilled Pork chops with a Pinot mushroom reduction sauce. The $17 2006 Zoot Allure Pinot Noir we had to start with the crackers and hummus gave it a serious run. It was absolutely pedestrian. I was very dissapointed!
